    Eun-Joo Choi1, Yun-Jung Choi2,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.25, No.1, pp. 21-29, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2022.022641

Abstract This study aimed to explore citizens’ emotional responses and issues of interest in the context of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The dataset comprised 65,313 tweets with the location marked as New York State. The data collection period was four days of tweets when New York City imposed a lockdown order due to an increase in confirmed cases. Data analysis was performed using R Studio. The emotional responses in tweets were analyzed using the Bing and NRC (National Research Council Canada) dictionaries. The tweets’ central issue was identified by Text Network Analysis. When tweets were classified as either positive… More > Graphic Abstract

Bayesian Computation for the Parameters of a Zero-Inflated Cosine Geometric Distribution with Application to COVID-19 Pandemic Data

Sunisa Junnumtuam, Sa-Aat Niwitpong*, Suparat Niwitpong

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.2, pp. 1229-1254, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.022098

Abstract A new three-parameter discrete distribution called the zero-inflated cosine geometric (ZICG) distribution is proposed for the first time herein. It can be used to analyze over-dispersed count data with excess zeros. The basic statistical properties of the new distribution, such as the moment generating function, mean, and variance are presented. Furthermore, confidence intervals are constructed by using the Wald, Bayesian, and highest posterior density (HPD) methods to estimate the true confidence intervals for the parameters of the ZICG distribution. Their efficacies were investigated by using both simulation and real-world data comprising the number of daily COVID-19 positive cases at the… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract The extraordinary situation related to COVID-19 makes people worry about their health, family health, work, finances, and other daily activities. This condition can lead to social unrest, which has consequences for mental health problems. This study aims to determine the mental health consequences at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. This is a cross-sectional study involving a target population aged 18 years and over who had access to electronic communication devices. An online questionnaire was randomly distributed and snowballed throughout 34 provinces in Indonesia. The study was conducted from 2 to 4 May 2020. Non-parametric and multivariate linear… More >

Abstract Background: The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in 2019 triggered psychological and emotional responses. This research investigates the psychological status and emotional problems of those who sought psychological assistance during the epidemic period by calling a mental health hotline. Methods: This study aims to combine qualitative and quantitative research. Descriptive analysis was used for undertaking qualitative research. We analyzed the data from group 1 (n = 706), in which the people used the mental health hotline from 25 January 2020 to 23 June 2020. A self-designed questionnaire was developed in accordance with the classification and summarized items from group 1’s psychological problems… More >

Physical exercise, Sedentary Behaviour, Sleep and Depression Symptoms in Chinese Young Adults During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Compositional Isotemporal Analysis

    Jianjun Su1, Enxiu Wei1, Cain Clark2, Kaixin Liang3, Xiaojiao Sun4,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.24, No.5, pp. 759-769, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2022.020152

Abstract Numerous studies links movement activity (e.g., physical activity, sedentary behavior [SB], and sleep) with mental health or illness indicators during the COVID-19 pandemic; however, research has typically examined time-use behaviors independently, rather than considering daily activity as a 24-hour time-use composition. This cross-sectional study aimed to use compositional isotemporal analysis to estimate the association between reallocation of time-use behaviors and depression symptoms in young adults in China. Participants (n = 1475; 68.0% of female; 20.7 [1.60] years) reported their time spent in moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), light physical activity (LPA), SB, and sleep. Replacing SB with sleep, LPA,… More >

An Intelligent Cluster Verification Model Using WSN to Avoid Close Proximity and Control Outbreak of Pandemic in a Massive Crowd

Naeem Ahmed Nawaz1, Norah Saleh Alghamdi2,*, Hanen Karamti2, Mohammad Ayoub Khan3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.133, No.2, pp. 327-350, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020791

Abstract Assemblage at public places for religious or sports events has become an integral part of our lives. These gatherings pose a challenge at places where fast crowd verification with social distancing (SD) is required, especially during a pandemic. Presently, verification of crowds is carried out in the form of a queue that increases waiting time resulting in congestion, stampede, and the spread of diseases. This article proposes a cluster verification model (CVM) using a wireless sensor network (WSN), single cluster approach (SCA), and split cluster approach (SpCA) to solve the aforementioned problem for pandemic cases. We show that SD, cluster… More >

Identification of SARS-CoV-2 by gold nanoparticles

    LORIS RIZZELLO1,2,3, VALERIA DE MATTEIS4,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.11, pp. 2369-2380, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.021059

Abstract The SARS-CoV-2 outbreaks highlighted the need for effective, reliable, fast, easy-to-do and cheap diagnostics procedures. We pragmatically experienced that an early positive-case detection, inevitably coupled with a mass vaccination campaign, is a milestone to control the COVID-19 pandemic. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) can indeed play a crucial role in this context, as their physicochemical, optics and electronics properties are being extensively used in photothermal therapy (PTT), radiation therapy (RT), drug delivery and diagnostic. AuNPs can be synthesized by several approaches to obtain different sizes and shapes that can be easily functionalized with many kinds of molecules such as antibodies, proteins, probes,… More >
