    K. Naresh Kumar1,*, S. Srinath2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 2623-2638, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.031713 - 15 March 2023

Abstract This paper concentrates on compensating the power quality issues which have been increased in day-to-day life due to the enormous usage of loads with power electronic control. One such solution is compensating devices like Pension Protection Fund (PPF), Active power filter (APF), hybrid power filter (HPF), etc., which are used to overcome Power Quality (PQ) issues. The proposed method used here is an active compensator called unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) which is a combination of shunt and series type active filter connected via a common DC link. The primary objective is to investigate the… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.5, pp. 1133-1148, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.025900 - 20 February 2023

Abstract Aiming at the problems of multiple types of power quality composite disturbances, strong feature correlation and high recognition error rate, a method of power quality composite disturbances identification based on multi-resolution S-transform and decision tree was proposed. Firstly, according to IEEE standard, the signal models of seven single power quality disturbances and 17 combined power quality disturbances are given, and the disturbance waveform samples are generated in batches. Then, in order to improve the recognition accuracy, the adjustment factor is introduced to obtain the controllable time-frequency resolution through multi-resolution S-transform time-frequency domain analysis. Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.5, pp. 1203-1221, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.025796 - 20 February 2023

Abstract Unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) with energy storage is commonly based on conventional capacity configuration strategy with power angle control. It has problems such as phase jumping before and after compensation. DC-link cannot continuously emit active power externally. Therefore, this paper presents the compensation strategy of full load voltage magnitude and phase in capacity configuration of UPQC. The topology of UPQC is integrated a series active power filter (SAPF), a shunt active power filter (PAPF) and a photovoltaic-battery energy storage system (PV-BESS). The principle of full load voltage compensation is analyzed based on the PV-BESS-UPQC… More > Graphic Abstract

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 1467-1482, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033280 - 06 February 2023

Abstract This paper presents a performance analysis of novel double-damped tuned alternating current (AC) filters in high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems. The proposed double-damped tuned AC filters offer the advantages of improved performance of HVDC systems in terms of better power quality, high power factor, and lower total harmonic distortion (THD). The system under analysis consists of an 878 km long HVDC transmission line connecting converter stations at Matiari and Lahore, two major cities in Pakistan. The main focus of this research is to design a novel AC filter using the equivalent impedance method of… More >

Improving Power Quality by DSTATCOM Based DQ Theory with Soft Computing Techniques

    V. Nandagopal1,*, T. S. Balaji Damodhar2, P. Vijayapriya3, A. Thamilmaran3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 1315-1329, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.032039 - 05 January 2023

    Abstract

The development of non-linear loads at consumers has significantly impacted power supply systems. Since, the poor power quality has been found in the three-phase distribution system due to unbalanced loads, harmonic current, undesired voltage regulation, and extreme reactive power demand. To overcome this issue, Distributed STATicCOMpensator (DSTATCOM) is implemented. DSTATCOM is a shunt-connected Voltage Source Converter (VSC) that has been utilized in distribution networks to balance the bus voltage in terms of enhancing reactive power control and power factor. DSTATCOM can provide both rapid and continuous capacitive and inductive mode compensation. A rectified resistive and

Modeling and Simulation of DVR and D-STATCOM in Presence of Wind Energy System

    Mehrdad Ahmadi Kamarposhti1,*, Ilhami Colak2, Phatiphat Thounthong3, Kei Eguchi4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 4547-4570, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.034082 - 31 October 2022

Abstract The present study suggests that series voltage injection is more effective than parallel current injection to improve voltage quality on the load side. The line voltage can be accurately symmetrized at the connection point by creating and controlling a series voltage component in each phase. This is more reliable and effective than parallel current injection. A dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) and a distribution static synchronous compensator (DSTATCOM) were utilized to provide the required power. The DVR is an effective and modern device utilized in parallel within the grid and can protect sensitive loads from voltage More >

In addition to supplying active power to the utility grid, the system of hybrid wind photovoltaic functions as a UPQC, compensating reactive power and suppressing the harmonic load currents. Additionally, the load is supplied with harmonic-free, balanced and regulated output voltages. Since PVWind-UPQC is established on a dual compensation scheme, the series inverter works like a… More >

A Fractional Order Fast Repetitive Control Paradigm of Vienna Rectifier for Power Quality Improvement

    Sue Wang1, Xintao Luo1,*, Saleem Riaz2, Haider Zaman3, Chaohong Zhou1, Pengfei Hao1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.2, pp. 1159-1176, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021850 - 31 August 2022

Abstract Due to attractive features, including high efficiency, low device stress, and ability to boost voltage, a Vienna rectifier is commonly employed as a battery charger in an electric vehicle (EV). However, the 6k ± 1 harmonics in the acside current of the Vienna rectifier deteriorate the THD of the ac current, thus lowering the power factor. Therefore, the current closed-loop for suppressing 6k ± 1 harmonics is essential to meet the desired total harmonic distortion (THD). Fast repetitive control (FRC) is generally adopted; however, the deviation of power grid frequency causes delay link in the More >

Abstract Typically, smart grid systems enhance the ability of conventional power system networks as it is vulnerable to several kinds of attacks. These vulnerabilities might cause the attackers or intruders to collapse the entire network system thus breaching the confidentiality and integrity of smart grid systems. Thus, for this purpose, Intrusion detection system (IDS) plays a pivotal part in offering a reliable and secured range of services in the smart grid framework. Several existing approaches are there to detect the intrusions in smart grid framework, however they are utilizing an old dataset to detect anomaly thus… More >
