    Abstract Study on the behaviors of the melting and coalescence of clusters in atomic scale may create new structure at nanoscale, which is a very important research field. The structural evolutions of clusters Cu321, Co321, and Ni321 during their melting and coalescence processes were studied using molecular dynamics simulation with a general embedded atom method in this paper. It was found that the geometries of Cu321 and Co321 transformed to icosahedron from fcc near their melting points, which leads to the increase of their melting points.     Abstract To improve the effectiveness of the lattice model for simulating the failure processes of heterogeneous brittle materials, each lattice element is refined as a subdomain with homogenous material, and is modeled by the boundary element method in this paper.     Abstract An iterative homogenization approach is proposed in order to predict the nonlinear hydro-mechanical behaviour of porous media. This process is coupled to classical and modified secant extended methods and linear homogenization predictive schemes. At convergence of the iterative process, same equivalent behaviour is obtained for any secant method, any simplified homogenization used for the linear comparison material and for any initial porosity of the media.     Abstract Continuous material processing operations like printing and textiles manufacturing are conducted under highly variable conditions due to changes in the environment and/or in the materials being processed. As such, the processing parameters require robust real-time adjustment appropriate to the conditions of a nonlinear system. This paper addresses this issue by presenting a hybrid feedforward-feedback nonlinear model predictive controller for continuous material processing operations. The adaptive feedback control strategy of the controller augments the standard feedforward control to ensure improved robustness and compensation for environmental disturbances and/or parameter uncertainties.
