Abstract Land use dynamics is a prerequisite for identifying natural resource management constraints, the evolution of agrarian practices and population growth. The objective of this research is to improve knowledge of the dynamics of agricultural land use in the dryland (Cinzana) and cotton (Kléla) areas of Mali. The methodology used consisted of planimetric data collection and diachronic analysis using Landsat TM (Thematic Mapper) satellite images from 2000 and OLI (Operational Land Image) from 2020. Degradation and deforestation rates of natural formations were calculated on the one hand, and on the other hand, the speed and intensity of changes were evaluated using… More > Graphic Abstract

Productivity Prediction Model of Perforated Horizontal Well Based on Permeability Calculation in Near-Well High Permeability Reservoir Area

    Shuangshuang Zhang1,*, Kangliang Guo1, Xinchen Gao1, Haoran Yang1, Jinfeng Zhang2, Xing Han3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.1, pp. 59-75, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.041709

Abstract To improve the productivity of oil wells, perforation technology is usually used to improve the productivity of horizontal wells in oilfield exploitation. After the perforation operation, the perforation channel around the wellbore will form a near-well high-permeability reservoir area with the penetration depth as the radius, that is, the formation has different permeability characteristics with the perforation depth as the dividing line. Generally, the permeability is measured by the permeability tester, but this approach has a high workload and limited application. In this paper, according to the reservoir characteristics of perforated horizontal wells, the reservoir is divided into two areas:… More >

A Feasibility Study of Using Geothermal Energy to Enhance Natural Gas Production from Offshore Gas Hydrate Reservoirs by CO2 Swapping

    Md Nahin Mahmood*, Boyun Guo

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.12, pp. 2707-2720, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.042996

Abstract The energy industry faces a significant challenge in extracting natural gas from offshore natural gas hydrate (NGH) reservoirs, primarily due to the low productivity of wells and the high operational costs involved. The present study offers an assessment of the feasibility of utilizing geothermal energy to augment the production of natural gas from offshore gas hydrate reservoirs through the implementation of the methane-CO2 swapping technique. The present study expands the research scope of the authors beyond their previous publication, which exclusively examined the generation of methane from marine gas hydrates. Specifically, the current investigation explores the feasibility of utilizing the… More >

A Productivity Prediction Method Based on Artificial Neural Networks and Particle Swarm Optimization for Shale-Gas Horizontal Wells

    Bin Li*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.10, pp. 2729-2748, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029649

Abstract In order to overcome the deficiencies of current methods for the prediction of the productivity of shale gas horizontal wells after fracturing, a new sophisticated approach is proposed in this study. This new model stems from the combination several techniques, namely, artificial neural network (ANN), particle swarm optimization (PSO), Imperialist Competitive Algorithms (ICA), and Ant Clony Optimization (ACO). These are properly implemented by using the geological and engineering parameters collected from 317 wells. The results show that the optimum PSO-ANN model has a high accuracy, obtaining a R2 of 0.847 on the testing. The partial dependence plots (PDP) indicate that… More >

Implementation of ID-based Audit Protocols to Enhance Security and Productivity

    R. Hariharan1,*, G. Komarasamy2, S. Daniel Madan Raja3

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.1, pp. 873-882, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.029899

Abstract Cloud storage has gained increasing popularity, as it helps cloud users arbitrarily store and access the related outsourced data. Numerous public audit buildings have been presented to ensure data transparency. However, modern developments have mostly been constructed on the public key infrastructure. To achieve data integrity, the auditor must first authenticate the legality of the public key certificate, which adds to an immense workload for the auditor, in order to ensure that data integrity is accomplished. The data facilities anticipate that the storage data quality should be regularly tracked to minimize disruption to the saved data in order to maintain… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.4, pp. 983-999, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.025813

Abstract Deficiencies of essential vitamins, iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) affect over one-half of the world’s population. A significant progress has been made to control micronutrient deficiencies through supplementation, but new approaches are needed, especially to reach the rural poor. Agronomic biofortification of pulses with Zn, Fe, and boron (B) offers a pragmatic solution to combat hidden hunger instead of food fortification and supplementation. Moreover, it also has positive effects on crop production as well. Therefore, we conducted three separate field experiments for two consecutive years to evaluate the impact of soil and foliar application of the aforementioned nutrients on the… More >

    Savita Bhardwaj1, Tunisha Verma1, Ali Raza2,*, Dhriti Kapoor1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.3, pp. 763-782, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.025672

    Abstract

Arsenic (As) contaminated food chains have emerged as a serious public concern for humans and animals and are known to affect the cultivation of edible crops throughout the world. Therefore, the present study was designed to investigate the individual as well as the combined effects of exogenous silicon (Si) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a nitric oxide (NO) donor, on plant growth, metabolites, and antioxidant defense systems of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) plants under three different concentrations of As stress, i.e., 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7 mM in a pot experiment. The results showed that As stress reduced the growth parameters of… More >

Experimental and Numerical Assessment of the Influence of Bottomhole Pressure Drawdown on Terrigenous Reservoir Permeability and Well Productivity

    Sergey Popov1, Sergey Chernyshov2,*, Evgeniy Gladkikh2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 619-634, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021936

Abstract During oil and gas fields development, a decrease in reservoir and bottomhole pressure has often a detrimental effect on reservoir properties, especially permeability. This study presents the results of laboratory tests conducted to determine the response of terrigenous reservoir core-sample permeability to changes in the effective stresses and a decrease in the reservoir pressure. The considered samples were exposed for a long time to a constant high effective stress for a more reliable assessment of the viscoplastic deformations. According to these experiments, the decrease of the core samples permeability may reach 21% with a decrease in pressure by 9.5 MPa… More > Graphic Abstract
