    ABHIJEET SURYAWANSHI1, NIRANJANA BEHERA2,*

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.40, No.3-4, pp. 305-316, 2023, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2023.40.3-4.11

Abstract Resin composites are commonly applied as the material for dental restoration. Wear of these materials is a major issue. In this study specimens made of dental composite materials were subjected to an in-vitro test in a pin-on-disc tribometer. Four different dental composite materials applied in the experiment were soaked in a solution of chewing tobacco for certain days before being removed and put through a wear test. Subsequently, four different machine learning (ML) algorithms (AdaBoost, CatBoost, Gradient Boosting, Random Forest) were implemented for developing models for the prediction of wear of dental materials. Abstract Thyroid disorders represent a significant global health challenge with hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism as two common conditions arising from dysfunction in the thyroid gland. Accurate and timely diagnosis of these disorders is crucial for effective treatment and patient care. This research introduces a comprehensive approach to improve the accuracy of thyroid disorder diagnosis through the integration of ensemble stacking and advanced feature selection techniques. Sequential forward feature selection, sequential backward feature elimination, and bidirectional feature elimination are investigated in this study. In ensemble learning, random forest, adaptive boosting, and bagging classifiers are employed. The effectiveness of… More >

Abstract The freshness of fruits is considered to be one of the essential characteristics for consumers in determining their quality, flavor and nutritional value. The primary need for identifying rotten fruits is to ensure that only fresh and high-quality fruits are sold to consumers. The impact of rotten fruits can foster harmful bacteria, molds and other microorganisms that can cause food poisoning and other illnesses to the consumers. The overall purpose of the study is to classify rotten fruits, which can affect the taste, texture, and appearance of other fresh fruits, thereby reducing their shelf life.… More >

Abstract To improve the prediction accuracy of the International Roughness Index (IRI) of Jointed Plain Concrete Pavements (JPCP) and Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavements (CRCP), a machine learning approach is developed in this study for the modelling, combining an improved Beetle Antennae Search (MBAS) algorithm and Random Forest (RF) model. The 10-fold cross-validation was applied to verify the reliability and accuracy of the model proposed in this study. The importance scores of all input variables on the IRI of JPCP and CRCP were analysed as well. The results by the comparative analysis showed the prediction accuracy of… More > Graphic Abstract

A New Method for Diagnosis of Leukemia Utilizing a Hybrid DL-ML Approach for Binary and Multi-Class Classification on a Limited-Sized Database

    Nilkanth Mukund Deshpande1,2, Shilpa Gite3,4,*, Biswajeet Pradhan5,6, Abdullah Alamri7, Chang-Wook Lee8,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 593-631, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.030704

Abstract Infection of leukemia in humans causes many complications in its later stages. It impairs bone marrow’s ability to produce blood. Morphological diagnosis of human blood cells is a well-known and well-proven technique for diagnosis in this case. The binary classification is employed to distinguish between normal and leukemia-infected cells. In addition, various subtypes of leukemia require different treatments. These sub-classes must also be detected to obtain an accurate diagnosis of the type of leukemia. This entails using multi-class classification to determine the leukemia subtype. This is usually done using a microscopic examination of these blood… More > Graphic Abstract

    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 339-351, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.030887

Abstract Background: Invasive breast carcinoma (BRCA) is associated with poor prognosis and high risk of mortality. Therefore, it is critical to identify novel biomarkers for the prognostic assessment of BRCA. Methods: The expression data of polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) in BRCA and the corresponding clinical information were extracted from TCGA and GEO databases. PLK1 expression was validated in diverse breast cancer cell lines by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blotting. Single sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) was performed to evaluate immune infiltration in the BRCA microenvironment, and the random forest (RF) and… More >

Abstract As massive underground projects have become popular in dense urban cities, a problem has arisen: which model predicts the best for Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) performance in these tunneling projects? However, performance level of TBMs in complex geological conditions is still a great challenge for practitioners and researchers. On the other hand, a reliable and accurate prediction of TBM performance is essential to planning an applicable tunnel construction schedule. The performance of TBM is very difficult to estimate due to various geotechnical and geological factors and machine specifications. The previously-proposed intelligent techniques in this field… More >
