    Efficiency Test of Iterative-Multifrontal Hybrid Solver

    Abstract A new concept of hybrid iterative-multifrontal linear solution method is presented for large scale structural analysis problems. Multifrontal solution method is the best direct solution method ever known, so it is adequate for Domain decompostion types of iterative solvers. Multifrontal solver is served as an internal subdomain solver for domain decomposition iterative solver for achieving high performance of domain decomposition iterative solver. Lagrange multiplier is introduced to enforce the continuity of interface between subdomains. And corner DOF is introduced to avoid singularities of subdomains. Hybrid solution method is expected to show good parallel performance for extremely large size structural analysis. More >

    Effect of cross flow on aerodynamics of a commercial airplane

    Abstract This paper analyzes computationally the flow field for the full geometry model of a commercial passenger airplane, Boeing747-400. The geometric dimension of an airplane was acquired by means of the reverse engineering technique adopting the photo scanning measurement. The steady three-dimensional viscous compressible flow field was calculated when the airplane cruises under side flow. The basic computational conditions were considered as the same to those of Boeing 747-400's cruising state, i.e., the atmospheric condition at 13 km above the sea level and Mach number of 0.85.     Abstract Ultrasonic welding is the joining or reforming of thermoplastics through the use of heat generated from high-frequency mechanical motion. Rotary welding is a technique to press two parts together and one part is hold fixed the other rotates at high speed, the friction between the two parts generate heat which causes the parts to melt at the interface, when rotation stops, the weld cools down and solidifies.     Abstract This study attempts to explore the thermal effect on the vibrational behaviors of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) using both a constant temperature molecular dynamics (MD) simulation that incorporates a Nosé-Hoover thermostat and a modified molecular structure mechanics (MMSM) model. The MD simulation is combined with a Nosé-Hoover thermostat, which controls the temperature of the system by an additional thermal reservoir. On the other hand, the MMSM model adopts equivalent beam elements and spring elements to simulate the bonding and non-bonding interactions between atoms, respectively, where the effect of temperatures can be also taken into account through Badger's rules.

    Abstract A magneto-electro-elastic Timoshenko beam model is presented and employed to study the effect of the shear strain on the free vibration behavior of the beam. Once the differential governing equation for Timoshenko magneto-electro-elastic beam is derived, the Euler-Bernoulli model is obtained by letting be zero some of the governing equation coefficients.     Abstract As analysis methods for the individual CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEM (Finite Element Method) analyses are matured, many researches are going on recently and several commercial software are available and ready to use, but the application of the method is limited to the specific or relatively simple geometry.     Abstract The aim of this paper was to establish the realistic breathing patterns in different exercise conditions by experimental measurement. Generally, the human inhalation rate varies from 15 L/min at rest to 135 L/min for intense exercise and the breathing cycles are varied with different exercise conditions.     Homogenized elastic-viscoplastic behavior of plate-fin structures at high temperatures

    Abstract In this study, homogenized elastic-viscoplastic behavior of plate-fin structures fabricated for compact heat exchangers is investigated. First, the homogenized behavior is numerically analyzed using a fully implicit mathematical homogenization scheme of periodic elastic-inelastic solids. A power-law creep equation is assumed to represent the viscoplasticity of base metals at high temperatures. The plate-fin structures are thus shown to exhibit significant anisotropy as well as compressibility in both the elastic and viscoplastic ranges of the homogenized behavior.     Abstract The objective of the study was to prove magnetic resonance imaging as suitable instrument for exploring the nature and amplitude of displacements within the bony pelvis induced by asymmetrically altered pelvic floor muscle characteristics. Repeated MR imaging of 14 females was performed. Spatial coordinates of 23 pelvic landmarks were localized in each subject and registered by interactive and automatic procedures. Modalities of registration procedure were tested and compared by the precision of registration.
