Abstract Synovial sarcoma (SS) is typically an aggressive malignant soft tissue tumor that mostly affects adolescents and young adults. It is extremely rare in orbit and carries a high risk of recurrence and metastasis, posing a challenge to ophthalmologists in diagnosing and managing. We present two primary orbital synovial sarcoma cases with unilateral exophthalmos and limited motility. Both male patients underwent reoperation in our hospital since tumor recurrence; the pathologic diagnoses were biphasic type and occult type, respectively. Both cases were positive for EMA and CK, and SOX-9 and INI-1 were newly discovered immune markers. Fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis (FISH)… More >

    Xubin Yin1, Bing Yang2, Ming Su2, Shaoshan Sun1, Hao Wang1,*

    Oncologie, Vol.23, No.4, pp. 533-546, 2021, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2021.018705

Abstract Background: Tumor recurrence is one of the major problems that affect the postoperative efficacy of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) treatment. Autophagy is known to have a dual-sided effect on tumors. However, studies on autophagy and prognosis are limited. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between autophagy and OSCC recurrence. Materials and methods: 72 patients with OSCC were followed for 5 years after curative surgery. Tissue specimens from each patient were divided into tumor, normal, and marginal groups. Autophagy protein expression was assessed by western blotting and immunofluorescence. Statistical significance was evaluated using the chi-square test.… More >

On Relations for Moments of Generalized Order Statistics for Lindley–Weibull Distribution

Faten A. Momen khan1, Saman Hanif Shahbaz2, Muhammad Qaiser Shahbaz2,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.41, No.1, pp. 197-208, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.020448

Abstract Moments of generalized order statistics appear in several areas of science and engineering. These moments are useful in studying properties of the random variables which are arranged in increasing order of importance, for example, time to failure of a computer system. The computation of these moments is sometimes very tedious and hence some algorithms are required. One algorithm is to use a recursive method of computation of these moments and is very useful as it provides the basis to compute higher moments of generalized order statistics from the corresponding lower-order moments. Generalized order statistics provides several models of ordered data… More >

    F. Guillemin, F. Marchal, M. Geffroy

    Oncologie, Vol.21, No.1, pp. 22-28, 2019, DOI:10.3166/onco-2019-0028

Abstract Purpose: Assessment of a second surgical conservative treatment (T) [N = 41] compared to total mastectomy (M) [N = 93] for ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence after initial breast conserving surgery in a retrospective study of 134 patients. Results: Five years global survival was 82.5% in each group. No statistical difference for the specific survival and survival without metastasis. The 5 years local control was 92.9% in group M and 66.2% in group T (RR = 4.48). Lymphovascular invasion (LVI), multifocal tumors, and clinical symptoms of the recurrence are pejorative factors for survival. Over the 134 patients, 25 have preserved their… More >
