Pengyu Chen, Cunbao Zhao*, He Yao, Junliang Li

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.3, pp. 2057-2071, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.022394

Abstract Multiple failure modes tend to be identified in the reliability analysis of a redundant truss structure. This identification process involves updating the model for identifying the next potential failure members. Herein we intend to update the finite element model automatically in the identification process of failure modes and further perform the system reliability analysis efficiently. This study presents a framework that is implemented through the joint simulation of MATLAB and APDL and consists of three parts: reliability index of a single member, identification of dominant failure modes, and system-level reliability analysis for system reliability analysis of truss structures. Firstly, RSM… More > Graphic Abstract

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.132, No.1, pp. 201-214, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020541

Abstract Human Reliability Analysis (HRA) is an important part in safety assessment of a large complex system. Human Cognitive Reliability (HCR) model is a method of evaluating the probability that operators fail to complete during diagnostic decision making within a limited time, which is widely used in HRA. In the application of this method, cognitive patterns of humans are required to be considered and classified, and this process often relies on the evaluation opinions of experts which is highly subjective and uncertain. How to effectively express and process this uncertain and subjective information plays a critical role in improving the accuracy… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.2, pp. 1135-1148, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018349

Abstract Moso bamboo has the advantages of high short-term strength and reproducibility, appropriating for temporary supporting structure of shallow foundation pit. According to the displacement of the pile top from an indoor model test, the reliability of the supporting effect of the moso bamboo pile was analyzed. First, the calculation formula of reliability index was deduced based on the mean-value first-order second-moment (MVFOSM)method and probability theory under ultimate limit state and serviceability limit state. Then, the dimensionless bias factor (the ratio of the measured value to the calculated value) was introduced to normalize the displacement. The mathematical characteristics of the displacement… More >

    Yonghua Li1,*, Xiaoning Bai2, Shanshan Shi1, Shenxuan Wang1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.2, pp. 1077-1092, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018181

Abstract Multiple failure modes and strength degradation are usually inherent in the gear transmission system, which brings new challenges for conducting fatigue reliability analysis and design. This paper proposes a novel dynamic fatigue reliability analysis method for failure dependence and strength degradation based on the combination of the Copula function and Gamma process. Firstly, the dynamic simulation model of the gear transmission system is established to obtain the dynamic stress-time history. The Gamma process is then used to describe the strength degradation to establish the dynamic stress-strength interference model. The marginal distribution functions of tooth contact fatigue and dedendum bending fatigue… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.128, No.3, pp. 1033-1067, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.015885

Abstract In many civil engineering projects, Piled Raft Foundations (PRFs) are usually preferred where the incoming load from the superstructures is very high. In geotechnical engineering practice, the settlement of soil layers is a critical issue for the serviceability of the structures. Thus, assessment of risk associated with the structures corresponding to the maximum allowable settlement of soils needs to be carried out in the design phase. In this study, reliability analysis of PRF based on settlement criteria is performed using a high-performance hybrid soft computing model. The new approach is an integration of the artificial neural network (ANN) and a… More >

    Xiukai Yuan1,2,*, Jian Gu1, Shaolong Liu1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.126, No.1, pp. 331-357, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.010482

Abstract In structural reliability analysis, simulation methods are widely used. The statistical characteristics of failure probability estimate of these methods have been well investigated. In this study, the sensitivities of the failure probability estimate and its statistical characteristics with regard to sample, called ‘contribution indexes’, are proposed to measure the contribution of sample. The contribution indexes in four widely simulation methods, i.e., Monte Carlo simulation (MCS), importance sampling (IS), line sampling (LS) and subset simulation (SS) are derived and analyzed. The proposed contribution indexes of sample can provide valuable information understanding the methods deeply, and enlighten potential improvement of methods. It… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.63, No.1, pp. 263-281, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.07535

Abstract Temporal variation of rock mass properties, especially the strength degradation due to drying-wetting cycles as well as the acidic wetting fluid (rainfall or reservoir water) is crucial to stability of reservoir rock slopes. Based on a series of drying-wetting cycling and experiments considering the influences of pH values, the degradation degree models of the reduced cohesion c′, friction angle φ′ are developed. 2D stability analysis of the slope is subsequently carried out to calculate the factor of safety (Fs) via limit equilibrium method (LEM) and a predictive model of Fs is built using multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), revealing the… More >

    Yuan-Qi Li, Li-Ping Wang, Zu-Yan Shen

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.16, No.1, pp. 13-14, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.016.013

Abstract In structural design, sometimes analysis methods in available specifications cannot be used directly for new materials or new structural configurations. A common way is to test and check the behavior in question of the prototype units including complete or parts of structures, individual members or connections for design assessment. How to directly obtain the design capacity with an expected reliability level according to the related codes from test results is a critical issue. Currently, there isn't any explicit specification for the above issues in Chinese codes, and few references are available. In this paper, referring to Australian specifications for Cold-formed… More >
