A Novel Method for Routing Optimization in Software-Defined Networks

    Salem Alkhalaf*, Fahad Alturise

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.3, pp. 6393-6405, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.031698

Abstract Software-defined network (SDN) is a new form of network architecture that has programmability, ease of use, centralized control, and protocol independence. It has received high attention since its birth. With SDN network architecture, network management becomes more efficient, and programmable interfaces make network operations more flexible and can meet the different needs of various users. The mainstream communication protocol of SDN is OpenFlow, which contains a Match Field in the flow table structure of the protocol, which matches the content of the packet header of the data received by the switch, and completes the corresponding actions according to the matching… More >

Dynamic Routing Optimization Algorithm for Software Defined Networking

Nancy Abbas El-Hefnawy1,*, Osama Abdel Raouf2, Heba Askr3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 1349-1362, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.017787

Abstract Time and space complexity is the most critical problem of the current routing optimization algorithms for Software Defined Networking (SDN). To overcome this complexity, researchers use meta-heuristic techniques inside the routing optimization algorithms in the OpenFlow (OF) based large scale SDNs. This paper proposes a hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm to optimize the dynamic routing problem for the large scale SDNs. Due to the dynamic nature of SDNs, the proposed algorithm uses a mutation operator to overcome the memory-based problem of the ant colony algorithm. Besides, it uses the box-covering method and the k-means clustering method to divide the SDN network to… More >

Traffic Engineering in Dynamic Hybrid Segment Routing Networks

    Yingya Guo1,2,3,7, Kai Huang1, Cheng Hu4,*, Jiangyuan Yao5, Siyu Zhou6

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 655-670, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.016364

Abstract The emergence of Segment Routing (SR) provides a novel routing paradigm that uses a routing technique called source packet routing. In SR architecture, the paths that the packets choose to route on are indicated at the ingress router. Compared with shortest-path-based routing in traditional distributed routing protocols, SR can realize a flexible routing by implementing an arbitrary flow splitting at the ingress router. Despite the advantages of SR, it may be difficult to update the existing IP network to a full SR deployed network, for economical and technical reasons. Updating partial of the traditional IP network to the SR network,… More >

A Bio-Inspired Routing Optimization in UAV-enabled Internet of Everything

    Masood Ahmad1, Fasee Ullah2,*, Ishtiaq Wahid1, Atif Khan3, M. Irfan Uddin4, Abdullah Alharbi5, Wael Alosaimi5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.1, pp. 321-336, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014102

Abstract Internet of Everything (IoE) indicates a fantastic vision of the future, where everything is connected to the internet, providing intelligent services and facilitating decision making. IoE is the collection of static and moving objects able to coordinate and communicate with each other. The moving objects may consist of ground segments and flying segments. The speed of flying segment e.g., Unmanned Ariel Vehicles (UAVs) may high as compared to ground segment objects. The topology changes occur very frequently due to high speed nature of objects in UAV-enabled IoE (Ue-IoE). The routing maintenance overhead may increase when scaling the Ue-IoE (number of… More >

Intelligent Software-Defined Network for Cognitive Routing Optimization Using Deep Extreme Learning Machine Approach

    Fahd Alhaidari1, Sultan H. Almotiri2, Mohammed A.Al Ghamdi2, Muhammad Adnan Khan3,*, Abdur Rehman4, Sagheer Abbas4, Khalid Masood Khan3, Atta-ur-Rahman5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.1, pp. 1269-1285, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.013303

Abstract In recent years, the infrastructure, instruments, and resources of network systems are becoming more complex and heterogeneous, with the rapid development of current internet and mobile communication technologies. In order to efficaciously prepare, control, hold and optimize networking systems, greater intelligence needs to be deployed. However, due to the inherently dispensed characteristic of conventional networks, Machine Learning (ML) techniques are hard to implement and deployed to govern and operate networks. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) brings us new possibilities to offer intelligence in the networks. SDN’s characteristics (e.g., logically centralized control, global network view, software-based site visitor analysis, and dynamic updating of… More >
