    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.9, pp. 1541-1553, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.015514

Abstract Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions from diesel exhaust pose a serious threat to the environment and human health. Thus, desulfurization technology and the performance of desulfurization materials must be improved. In this study, MnO2 was modified with various alkali metal ions using the impregnation method to enhance its SO2 capture performance. The composites were characterized intensively by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction spectroscopy, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller theory. The SO2 capture performance of these composites were measured via thermogravimetry, and the effect of doping with alkali metal ions on the SO2 capture performance of MnO2 was investigated. Results showed that… More >

Abstract Elemental sulfur has been used as a traditional Chinese medicine to treat the late-onset hypogonadism and impotence without a clarified mechanism for many hundreds of years. In the present study, mice were received sulfur or distilled water for 35 days by daily intragastric gavage at a dose of 250 mg/kg body weight. Then, the serum testosterone level and genes associated with testicular testosterone biosynthesis (TTB) were detected. The gut microbiota was also analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Serum testosterone level was significantly increased by 291.1% in sulfur-treated mice. The H2S levels in serum and feces were significantly increased. The… More >

Fungi degrading metsulfuron methyl in agricultural soils of Argentina

    Vázquez MB1, MV Bianchinotti1,2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.82, pp. 113-118, 2013, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2013.82.113

Abstract Strains of Mucor, Penicillium and Trichoderma, able to use metsulfuron-methyl (MM) as a sole carbon and energy source, were isolated from agricultural soils in Argentina. This is the first time this ability is recorded in the Mucor or Trichoderma species. When the isolated strains were compared in relation to their capacity to use the herbicide, those of Trichoderma showed the best results. Because of this, they were selected for further assays. The effect of metsulfuron on growth in liquid media was tested. Also, the ability of conidia to germinate in water agar medium containing the target herbicide was evaluated. All… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.4, No.2, pp. 158-162, 2016, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2015.634116

Abstract Cadmium sulfi de (CdS) quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized by a standard hydrothermal method with simultaneous desulfurization of kerosene oil. Sulfur containing kerosene oil was treated with cadmium chloride (CdCl2) in the presence of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) at 120 °C for 1.5 to 5 h. CdS was formed and sulfur content of oil gradually decreased. Thus, desulfurization of the oil occurred with the formation of the CdS QDs. The concentration of sulfur decreased to a minimum of 0.055% after 5 h of the reaction. In addition, the particle size of QDs increased from 5.4 nm to 8.1 nm as the… More >
