Effects of Ultrasonic Seed Treatment on Rice Performances under the Seawater Irrigation

    Yingying Zhang1,2,3, Jinhai Liu1,2,3, Zhuosheng Yan4, Gangshun Rao5, Xiangru Tang1,2,3,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.1, pp. 121-130, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.022697

Abstract Irrigation with desalinated seawater is an effective way to use ocean resources and save freshwater resources. However, seawater irrigation would cause yield loss of rice. In order to explore the effects of ultrasonic seed treatment on rice performances under seawater irrigation, the present study was conducted with three irrigation treatments (fresh water (SW0), ten times diluted seawater (SW1%, 0.34% salinity), and five times diluted seawater (SW2%, 0.68% salinity)) and two seed treatments (ultrasonic treated seeds (UT) and untreated seeds (CK)). Compared with SW0 + CK treatment, SW1 + CK and SW2 + CK treatments significantly… More >

Abstract Fragrant rice is popular for the good grain quality and special aroma. The present study conducted a field experiment to investigate the effects of ultrasonic seed treatment on grain yield, quality characters, physiological properties and aroma biosynthesis of different fragrant rice genotypes. The seeds of three fragrant rice genotypes were exposed to 1 min of ultrasonic vibration and then cultivated in paddy field. The results of present study showed that ultrasonic seed treatment increased grain yield of all fragrant rice genotypes but the responses of yield formation to ultrasonic were varied with different genotypes. Abstract Brassinolide (BR) is a new green plant growth regulator. The present field study was conducted on two fragrant rice cultivars (i.e., Meixiangzhan-2 and Xiangyaxiangzhan) to study the effects of foliar application of BR on fragrant rice performance. At the heading stage, BR solutions at 0.05, 0.15, 0.25 and 0.50 mg L-1 were sprayed on fragrant rice at 600 liters per hectare; these treatments were named as BR1, BR2, BR3 and BR4, respectively. The treatment sprayed with distilled water was taken as a control (CK). Compared with CK, the BR2 treatment significantly enhanced the chlorophyll concentration and… More >

Effects of Different Potassium (K) Fertilizer Rates on Yield Formation and Lodging of Rice

    Tantan Zhang1,2,#, Xiaoping He3,#, Binglin Chen1,#, Longxin He1,2, Xiangru Tang1,2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.3, pp. 815-826, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.014168

Abstract As one of the most important nutrients for plants, potassium (K) has substantial effects on growth and development of crops. Present study was conducted in three different sites in South China in late season in 2019 with the objective to study the effects of different applied amounts of K fertilizer on yield formation and lodging of rice. Four K fertilizer treatments, K0: 0 kg potassium oxide (K2O) ha−1 (control); K1: 64.20 kg K2O ha−1 ; K2: 128.55 kg K2O ha−1 and K3 153.90 kg K2O ha−1 were applied in the field experiment. The results showed that K2 and K3 treatments significantly increased… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.2, pp. 437-447, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.012903

Abstract The improvement of grain quality in aromatic rice is very important for farmer to increase their income. Present study was conducted with a two-year field experiment and three aromatic rice cultivars in order to study the effects of exogenous α-ketoglutaric acid on yield formation, grain quality characters and the biosynthesis of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP, key component of aromatic rice’s fragrance) in aromatic rice. At heading stage, 0.50 mmol L–1 (T1) and 1.00 mmol L–1 (T2) α-ketoglutaric acid solutions were overhead sprinkle to aromatic rice plants, respectively while the treatment which was overhead sprinkled with distilled water was set… More >

Grain Yield, Quality and 2-Acetyl-1-Pyrroline of Fragrant Rice in Response to Different Planting Seasons in South China

    Leilei Kong1,2, Haowen Luo1, Zhaowen Mo1, Shenggang Pan1, Zhixia Liu2, Qiang Zhang2, Song Bai2,*, Xiangru Tang1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.89, No.3, pp. 705-714, 2020, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.010953

Abstract Climate conditions is an important factor affected the fragrant rice growth and development. In order to study the effects of different planting seasons on fragrant rice performance in South China, present study was conducted with three planting seasons (early season (April to July), middle season (June to September) and late season (August to November)) and three fragrant rice cultivars, ‘Basmati-385’, ‘Meixiangzhan-2’ and ‘Xiangyaxiangzhan’. The results showed that the highest grain yield and grain 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP, key component of fragrant rice aroma) content were both recorded in late season treatment while the fragrant rice in middle season treatment… More >
