    A Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin Method for the Analysis of Cracks in the Isotropic Functionally Graded Material

    Abstract A meshless local Petrov-Galerkin method (MLPG)[1] for the analysis of cracks in isotropic functionally graded materials is presented. The meshless method uses the moving least squares (MLS) to approximate the field unknowns. The shape function has not the Kronecker Delta properties for the trial-function-interpolation, and a direct interpolation method is adopted to impose essential boundary conditions. The MLPG method does not involve any domain and singular integrals to generate the global effective stiffness matrix if body force is ignored; it only involves a regular boundary integral.     Abstract In this paper we present a summary of the behaviour of inflatable fabric beams. Analytical studies on inflatable fabric beams are presented and inflatable fabric beam finite elements are described. The stiffness matrixes take into account the inflation pressure. Shakedown analysis is used to calculate limit loads of inflatable fabric beams. Results on the dynamic behaviour of inflatable beams are finally displayed. More >

    Abstract Quantitative ultrasound has attracted significant interest in the evaluation of bone fracture healing. Animal and clinical studies have demonstrated that the propagation velocity across fractured bones can be used as an indicator of healing. Researchers have recently employed computational methods for modeling wave propagation in bones aiming to gain insight into the underlying mechanisms of wave propagation and to further enhance the monitoring capabilities of ultrasound.     Abstract The present paper provides a Lie-group shooting method for the numerical solutions of second-order nonlinear boundary value problems exhibiting multiple solutions. It aims to find all solutions as easy as possible. The boundary conditions considered are classified into four types, namely the Dirichlet, the first Robin, the second Robin and the Neumann. The two Robin type problems are transformed into a canonical one by using the technique of symmetric extension of the governing equations.     Abstract This paper presents the preliminary design effort of a brand new integral twist-actuated blade incorporating single crystal piezoelectric fiber composites. Although the previous integral twist-actuated blade was able to reduce the vibration and acoustic noise of rotorcrafts significantly, a quite high input-voltage was unavoidably required. Therefore, in this paper, it is suggested to develop a new active blade using single crystal piezoelectric composites to reduce the vibration and acoustic noise of helicopters more efficiently.
