International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2023.029187

Abstract Emerging adulthood (EA) is a critical stage of life to develop and sustain a healthy lifestyle, which is also a time of vulnerability to poor physical and mental health outcomes. In this study, we conducted a path analysis (N = 1326) to examine associations among four dimensions of EA, levels of regular physical activity (PA), self-control, MPA tendency and irrational procrastination. Results found: 1) higher levels of PA predicted both MPA tendency (β = −0.08, 95% CI: −0.11 to −0.06, p < 0.001) and irrational procrastination (β = −0.01, 95% CI: −0.17 to −0.008, p < 0.01) indirectly via self-control;… More >

Self-Cross-Linked Tannin-Aminated Tannin Surface Coatings for Particleboard

    Bengang Zhang1,*, Antonio Pizzi2,*, Mathieu Petrissans1, Anelie Petrissans1, Colin Baptiste1

Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.029761

Abstract Aminated tannins were prepared by reacting mimosa condensed tannin extract with ammonia yielding the substitution of many, if not all of the tannin hydroxyl groups with –NH2 groups. A tannin-aminated tannin (ATT) particleboard coating was then prepared by reacting raw tannin extract with aminated tannin extract and thus cross-liking the two by substituting tannin’s hydroxyl groups with the –NH2 groups on the aminated tannin to form –NH-bridges between the two. The resulting particleboard coating gave encouraging results when pressed at 180°C for 3 min. Conversely, the system in which tannin was reacted/cross-liked with urea (ATU) by a similar amination reaction… More >

Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.028352

Abstract The performance of engineered wood products is highly associated with proper bonding and an efficient cutting method. This paper investigates the influence of CO2 laser cutting on the wetting properties, the modified chemical component of the laser-cut surface, and the strength and adhesive penetration near the bondline. Beechwood is cut by the laser with varying processing parameters, cutting speeds, gas pressures, and focal point positions. The laser-cut samples were divided into two groups, sanded and non-sanded samples. Polyvinyl acetate adhesive (PVAc) was used to bond the groups of laser-cut samples. After assembly with cold pressing, the tensile shear test was… More >

Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.039984

Abstract Introducing IoT devices to healthcare fields has made it possible to remotely monitor patients’ information and provide a proper diagnosis as needed, resulting in the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). However, obtaining good security features that ensure the integrity and confidentiality of patient’s information is a significant challenge. However, due to the computational resources being limited, an edge device may struggle to handle heavy detection tasks such as complex machine learning algorithms. Therefore, designing and developing a lightweight detection mechanism is crucial. To address the aforementioned challenges, a new lightweight IDS approach is developed to effectively combat a diverse range… More >

A Novel Hybrid Optimization Algorithm for Materialized View Selection from Data Warehouse Environments

    Popuri Srinivasarao, Aravapalli Rama Satish*

Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.038951

Abstract Responding to complex analytical queries in the data warehouse (DW) is one of the most challenging tasks that require prompt attention. The problem of materialized view (MV) selection relies on selecting the most optimal views that can respond to more queries simultaneously. This work introduces a combined approach in which the constraint handling process is combined with metaheuristics to select the most optimal subset of DW views from DWs. The proposed work initially refines the solution to enable a feasible selection of views using the ensemble constraint handling technique (ECHT). The constraints such as self-adaptive penalty, epsilon (ε)-parameter and stochastic… More >

A Consistent Mistake in Remote Sensing Images’ Classification Literature

    Huaxiang Song*

Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.039315

Abstract Recently, the convolutional neural network (CNN) has been dominant in studies on interpreting remote sensing images (RSI). However, it appears that training optimization strategies have received less attention in relevant research. To evaluate this problem, the author proposes a novel algorithm named the Fast Training CNN (FST-CNN). To verify the algorithm’s effectiveness, twenty methods, including six classic models and thirty architectures from previous studies, are included in a performance comparison. The overall accuracy (OA) trained by the FST-CNN algorithm on the same model architecture and dataset is treated as an evaluation baseline. Results show that there is a maximal OA… More >

Flame Retardant Material Based on Cellulose Scaffold Mineralized by Calcium Carbonate

Jinshuo Wang, Lida Xing, Fulong Zhang, Chuanfu Liu*

Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.029057

Abstract Wood-based functional materials have developed rapidly. But the flammability significantly limits its further application. To improve the flame retardancy, the balsa wood was delignified by NaClO2 solution to create a cellulose scaffold, and then alternately immersed in CaCl2 ethanol solution and NaHCO3 aqueous solution under vacuum. The high porosity and wettability resulting from delignification benefited the following mineralization process, changing the thermal properties of balsa wood significantly. The organic-inorganic wood composite showed abundant CaCO3 spherical particles under scanning electron microscopy. The peak of the heat release rate of delignified balsa-CaCO3 was reduced by 33% compared to the native balsa, according… More > Graphic Abstract
