VISCOUS DISSIPATION EFFECTS ON THE LIMITING VALUE OF NUSSELT NUMBERS FOR A SHEAR DRIVEN FLOW BETWEEN TWO ASYMMETRICALLY HEATED PARALLEL PLATES

    Pranab Kumar Mondal*, Sanchayan Mukherjee

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.3, No.3, pp. 1-6, 2012, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v3.3.3004

Abstract The present paper deals with the analytical investigation for the limiting value of Nusselt number, including the effect of viscous dissipation on heat transfer for a laminar shear driven flow between two infinite parallel plates, where the bottom plate is fixed and the top plate is moving in an axial direction at a constant speed. The study concentrates on hydro-dynamically fully developed flow of a Newtonian fluid of constant properties without considering the axial conduction in the fluid. To investigate the effect of viscous dissipation on heat transfer by defining the limiting Nusselt number, plates are kept at constant equal… More >

    Chein-Shan Liu1, Chung-Lun Kuo1, Chih-Wen Chang2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.3, pp. 3189-3208, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.046002

Abstract To solve the Laplacian problems, we adopt a meshless method with the multiquadric radial basis function (MQ-RBF) as a basis whose center is distributed inside a circle with a fictitious radius. A maximal projection technique is developed to identify the optimal shape factor and fictitious radius by minimizing a merit function. A sample function is interpolated by the MQ-RBF to provide a trial coefficient vector to compute the merit function. We can quickly determine the optimal values of the parameters within a preferred rage using the golden section search algorithm. The novel method provides the optimal values of parameters and,… More >

KSKV: Key-Strategy for Key-Value Data Collection with Local Differential Privacy

    Dan Zhao1, Yang You2, Chuanwen Luo3,*, Ting Chen4,*, Yang Liu5

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.3, pp. 3063-3083, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.045400

Abstract In recent years, the research field of data collection under local differential privacy (LDP) has expanded its focus from elementary data types to include more complex structural data, such as set-value and graph data. However, our comprehensive review of existing literature reveals that there needs to be more studies that engage with key-value data collection. Such studies would simultaneously collect the frequencies of keys and the mean of values associated with each key. Additionally, the allocation of the privacy budget between the frequencies of keys and the means of values for each key does not yield an optimal utility tradeoff.… More >

Self-Compassion Moderates the Effect of Contingent Self-Esteem on Well-Being: Evidence from Cross-Sectional Survey and Experiment

    Ruirui Zhang1, Xuguang Zhang2, Minxin Yang3, Haoran Zhang4,5,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 117-126, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2023.045819

Abstract Contingent self-esteem captures the fragile nature of self-esteem and is often regarded as suboptimal to psychological functioning. Self-compassion is another important self-related concept assumed to promote mental health and well-being. However, research on the relation of self-compassion to contingent self-esteem is lacking. Two studies were conducted to explore the role of self-compassion, either as a personal characteristic or an induced mindset, in influencing the effects of contingent self-esteem on well-being. Study 1 recruited 256 Chinese college students (30.4% male, mean age = 21.72 years) who filled out measures of contingent self-esteem, self-compassion, and well-being. The results found that self-compassion moderated… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.2, pp. 285-304, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.043919

Abstract With the increase in antimicrobial resistance, it has become necessary to explore alternative approaches for combating and preventing diseases. DB-cinnamaldehyde (CNM) and Benzyl4-amino (B4AM) are bioactive compounds derived from chalcones but with restricted solubility in aqueous media. Nanoemulsions can enhance the solubility of compounds and can be a promising alternative in the development of novel antimicrobials, with reduced side effects and prolonged release. The objective of this study was to evaluate the stability of oil-in-water nanoemulsions loaded with two distinct types of chalcones at two different dosages, to propose a stable formulation with antimicrobial properties. Results showed that nanoemulsions presented… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract First, we propose a cross-domain authentication architecture based on trust evaluation mechanism, including registration, certificate issuance, and cross-domain authentication processes. A direct trust evaluation mechanism based on the time decay factor is proposed, taking into account the influence of historical interaction records. We weight the time attenuation factor to each historical interaction record for updating and got the new historical record data. We refer to the beta distribution to enhance the flexibility and adaptability of the direct trust assessment model to better capture time trends in the historical record. Then we propose an autoencoder-based trust clustering algorithm. We perform feature… More >
