    Abstract

Aluminum (Al) toxicity is a considerable factor limiting crop yield and biomass in acidic soil. Tartary buckwheat growing in acidic soil may suffer from Al poisoning. Here, we investigated the influence of Al stress on the growth of tartary buckwheat seedling roots, and the alleviation of Al stress by silicon (Si), as has been demonstrated in many crops. Under Al stress, root growth (total root length, primary root length, root tips, root surface area, and root volume) was significantly inhibited, and Al and malondialdehyde (MDA) accumulated in the root tips. At the same time, catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase activities,… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 45-56, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.031089

Abstract Turpentine is a renewable and resourceful forest product. The deep processing and utilization of turpentine, particularly its primary component β-pinene, has garnered widespread attention. This study aimed to synthesize 40 derivatives of β-pinene, including nopinone, 3-cyanopyridines of nopinone, myrtanyl acid, myrtanyl acylthioureas, and myrtanyl amides. We assessed the antiviral activities of these β-pinene derivatives against influenza virus A/Puerto Rico/8/34 (H1N1) using the 3-(4,5-dimetylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide method. The β-pinene derivatives were used before and after cellular infection with the influenza virus to evaluate their preventive and therapeutic effects against the H1N1 virus. The results showed that only compound 10o exhibited a preventive… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Background: The assessment of Fontan circuit’s flow is traditionally evaluated by multiple through-plane phase-contrast MRI acquisitions (2D flow), while recently, a single volumetric 4D-flow MRI acquisition is emerging as a comprehensive tool for the hemodynamic evaluation in congenital heart diseases. Purpose: To compare 2D and 4D-flow MRI measurements in patients after Fontan palliation and to evaluate parameters affecting potential disagreement. Methods: 39 patients after Fontan palliation (23 males, age 22 ± 11 years) who underwent cardiac MRI with 2D and 4D-flow MRI acquisition were included in the study. In all patients, blood flow quantification in the Fontan circuit and aorta… More > Graphic Abstract

Damage Evaluation of Building Surface via Novel Deep Learning Framework

    Shan Xu1,*, Huadu Tang1, Ding Wang1, Ruiguang Zhu1, Liwei Wang1, Shengwang Hao1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 1-3, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09930

Abstract Damage evaluation is an important index for the evaluation of buildings health. To provide a rapid crack evaluation in practical applications, a crack identification and damage evaluation via deep learning framework is proposed in this paper. We built a combined dataset from Kaggle and site photos. A pre-trained U-net model is used to perform the training of model. With updated weights, the identification of cracks could be performed on non-labelled photos. More >

Multi-Scale Topology Optimization Method Considering Multiple Structural Performances

    Wenjun Chen1, Yingjun Wang1,*

    The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023. 09096

Abstract The rapid development of topology optimization has given birth to a large amount of different topology optimization methods, and each of them can manage a class of corresponding engineering problems. However, structures need to meet a variety of requirements in engineering application, such as lightweight and multiple load-bearing performance. To design composite structures that have multiple structural properties, a new multi-scale topology optimization method considering multiple structural performances is proposed in this paper. Based on the fitting functions of the result set and the bisection method, a new method to determine the weight coefficient is proposed in this paper, which… More >

Wavelet Multi-Resolution Interpolation Galerkin Method for Linear Singularly Perturbed Boundary Value Problems

    Jiaqun Wang1,2, Guanxu Pan2, Youhe Zhou2, Xiaojing Liu2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 297-318, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.030622

Abstract In this study, a wavelet multi-resolution interpolation Galerkin method (WMIGM) is proposed to solve linear singularly perturbed boundary value problems. Unlike conventional wavelet schemes, the proposed algorithm can be readily extended to special node generation techniques, such as the Shishkin node. Such a wavelet method allows a high degree of local refinement of the nodal distribution to efficiently capture localized steep gradients. All the shape functions possess the Kronecker delta property, making the imposition of boundary conditions as easy as that in the finite element method. Four numerical examples are studied to demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the proposed… More >

Abstract Gastric cancers are caused primarily due to the activation and amplification of the EGFR or HER2 kinases resulting in cell proliferation, adhesion, angiogenesis, and metastasis. Conventional therapies are ineffective due to the intra-tumoral heterogeneity and concomitant genetic mutations. Hence, dual inhibition strategies are recommended to increase potency and reduce cytotoxicity. In this study, we have conducted computational high-throughput screening of the ChemBridge library followed by in vitro assays and identified novel selective inhibitors that have a dual impediment of EGFR/HER2 kinase activities. Diversity-based High-throughput Virtual Screening (D-HTVS) was used to screen the whole ChemBridge small molecular library against EGFR and… More > Graphic Abstract

    Jiamin Xiang1, Ying Zhang1, Xiaohua Cao1,*, Zhigang Zhou2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.77, No.3, pp. 3443-3466, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.045120

Abstract This paper presents an improved hybrid algorithm and a multi-objective model to tackle the scheduling problem of multiple Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) under the composite operation mode. The multi-objective model aims to minimize the maximum completion time, the total distance covered by AGVs, and the distance traveled while empty-loaded. The improved hybrid algorithm combines the improved genetic algorithm (GA) and the simulated annealing algorithm (SA) to strengthen the local search ability of the algorithm and improve the stability of the calculation results. Based on the characteristics of the composite operation mode, the authors introduce the combined coding and parallel decoding… More >
