Abstract In the current era of information technology, students need to learn modern programming languages efficiently. The art of teaching/learning programming requires many logical and conceptual skills. So it’s a challenging task for the instructors/learners to teach/learn these programming languages effectively and efficiently. Mind mapping is a useful visual tool for establishing ideas and connecting them to solve problems. This research proposed an effective way to teach programming languages through visual tools. This experimental study uses a mind mapping tool to teach two programming environments: Text-based Programming and Blocks-based Programming. We performed the experiments with one hundred and sixty undergraduate students… More >

A Parallel Hybrid Testing Technique for Tri-Programming Model-Based Software Systems

    Huda Basloom1,*, Mohamed Dahab1, Abdullah Saad AL-Ghamdi2, Fathy Eassa1, Ahmed Mohammed Alghamdi3, Seif Haridi4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 4501-4530, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033928

Abstract Recently, researchers have shown increasing interest in combining more than one programming model into systems running on high performance computing systems (HPCs) to achieve exascale by applying parallelism at multiple levels. Combining different programming paradigms, such as Message Passing Interface (MPI), Open Multiple Processing (OpenMP), and Open Accelerators (OpenACC), can increase computation speed and improve performance. During the integration of multiple models, the probability of runtime errors increases, making their detection difficult, especially in the absence of testing techniques that can detect these errors. Numerous studies have been conducted to identify these errors, but no technique exists for detecting errors… More >

Abstract Cloud computing is one of the most attractive and cost-saving models, which provides online services to end-users. Cloud computing allows the user to access data directly from any node. But nowadays, cloud security is one of the biggest issues that arise. Different types of malware are wreaking havoc on the clouds. Attacks on the cloud server are happening from both internal and external sides. This paper has developed a tool to prevent the cloud server from spamming attacks. When an attacker attempts to use different spamming techniques on a cloud server, the attacker will be intercepted through two effective techniques:… More >

Two-Sided Stable Matching Decision-Making Method Considering Matching Intention under a Hesitant Fuzzy Environment

    Qi Yue1,2,*, Zhibin Deng2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.2, pp. 1603-1623, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.022956

Abstract In this paper, a stable two-sided matching (TSM) method considering the matching intention of agents under a hesitant fuzzy environment is proposed. The method uses a hesitant fuzzy element (HFE) as its basis. First, the HFE preference matrix is transformed into the normalized HFE preference matrix. On this basis, the distance and the projection of the normalized HFEs on positive and negative ideal solutions are calculated. Then, the normalized HFEs are transformed into agent satisfactions. Considering the stable matching constraints, a multiobjective programming model with the objective of maximizing the satisfactions of two-sided agents is constructed. Based on the agent… More >

Efficient Origin-Destination Estimation Using Microscopic Traffic Simulation with Restricted Rerouting

    Kazuki Abe1,*, Hideki Fujii2, Shinobu Yoshimura2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.2, pp. 1091-1109, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021376

Abstract Traffic simulators are utilized to solve a variety of traffic-related problems. For such simulators, origin-destination (OD) traffic volumes as mobility demands are required to input, and we need to estimate them. The authors regard an OD estimation as a bi-level programming problem, and apply a microscopic traffic simulation model to it. However, the simulation trials can be computationally expensive if full dynamic rerouting is allowed, when employing multi-agent-based models in the estimation process. This paper proposes an efficient OD estimation method using a multi-agent-based simulator with restricted dynamic rerouting to reduce the computational load. Even though, in the case of… More >

    Saeed Akbari1, Seyed Saeed Fazel1,*, Hamed Hashemi-Dezaki2,3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.1, pp. 69-86, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.024121

Abstract The networking of microgrids has received significant attention in the form of a smart grid. In this paper, a set of smart railway stations, which is assumed as microgrids, is connected together. It has been tried to manage the energy exchanged between the networked microgrids to reduce received energy from the utility grid. Also, the operational costs of stations under various conditions decrease by applying the proposed method. The smart railway stations are studied in the presence of photovoltaic (PV) units, energy storage systems (ESSs), and regenerative braking strategies. Studying regenerative braking is one of the essential contributions. Moreover, the… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequent type of gynecology tumors with high morbidity and mortality. Ampelopsin, the main active compound of Ampelopsis grossedentata, exerts an anti-tumor effect on a variety of cancers. However, the anti-cancer role of ampelopsin in BC remains unclear. The aim of this study is to explore the mechanism of ampelopsin against breast cancer. Materials and Methods: The target genes of ampelopsin in the treatment of breast cancer were determined and analyzed by network pharmacology and molecular docking. Cytoscape software was used to identify the core target genes and construct a protein–protein interaction (PPI) network.… More >

Multi-Patch Black-White Topology Optimization in Isogeometric Analysis

    Qingyuan Hu1,*, Yuan Liang2, Menghao Liu1, Manfeng Hu1, Yawen Mao1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.1, pp. 459-481, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020327

Abstract Topological optimization plays a guiding role in the conceptual design process. This paper conducts research on structural topology optimization algorithm within the framework of isogeometric analysis. For multi-component structures, the Nitsche’s method is used to glue different meshes to perform isogeometric multi-patch analysis. The discrete variable topology optimization algorithm based on integer programming is adopted in order to obtain clear boundaries for topology optimization. The sensitivity filtering method based on the Helmholtz equation is employed for averaging of curved elements' sensitivities. In addition, a simple averaging method along coupling interfaces is proposed in order to ensure the material distribution across… More >

A Fixed-Point Iterative Method for Discrete Tomography Reconstruction Based on Intelligent Optimization

    Luyao Yang1,#, Hao Chen2,#, Haocheng Yu1, Jin Qiu1,*, Shuxian Zhu1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.1, pp. 731-745, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020656

Abstract Discrete Tomography (DT) is a technology that uses image projection to reconstruct images. Its reconstruction problem, especially the binary image (0–1 matrix) has attracted strong attention. In this study, a fixed point iterative method of integer programming based on intelligent optimization is proposed to optimize the reconstructed model. The solution process can be divided into two procedures. First, the DT problem is reformulated into a polyhedron judgment problem based on lattice basis reduction. Second, the fixed-point iterative method of Dang and Ye is used to judge whether an integer point exists in the polyhedron of the previous program. All the… More >
