    LU SUN1,2, HUAICHENG TAN1, TING YU3, RUICHAO LIANG4,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.31, No.6, pp. 967-988, 2023, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.042309

Abstract Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common and deadliest subtype of lung cancer. To select more targeted and effective treatments for individuals, further advances in classifying LUAD are urgently needed. The number, type, and function of T cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) determine the progression and treatment response of LUAD. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), may regulate T cell differentiation, development, and activation. Thus, our aim was to identify T cell-related lncRNAs (T cell-Lncs) in LUAD and to investigate whether T cell-Lncs could serve as potential stratifiers and therapeutic targets. Seven T cell-Lncs were identified to further establish the T… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.31, No.6, pp. 937-953, 2023, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.030933

Abstract Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) plays a crucial role in cell mitosis and has been associated with necroptosis. However, the role of PLK1 and necroptosis in lung adenocarcinoma (LA) remains unclear. In this study, we analyzed The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression databases to evaluate the prognostic value and mechanistic role of PLK1 in LA. PLK1 was found to be highly expressed in LA and was positively associated with advanced disease staging and poor survival outcomes. Functional enrichment analysis showed that PLK1 was involved in cell mitosis, neurotransmitter transmission, and drug metabolism. Further analysis using single-sample gene set enrichment… More > Graphic Abstract

    DONGJIE SUN1,2, CHI ZHANG3,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.31, No.5, pp. 753-767, 2023, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.029287

Abstract Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, accounting for over a million deaths worldwide annually. Immunogenic cell death (ICD) elicits an adaptive immune response. However, the role of ICD-related long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in LUAD is unknown. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the tumor microenvironment in LUAD, the prognostic significance of ICD-related lncRNAs, and the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of possible chemotherapeutic drugs. We sorted prognostic lncRNAs using univariate Cox regression and constructed a risk signature based on them. We then confirmed the model’s accuracy and generated a nomogram. Additionally, we performed immune microenvironment… More > Graphic Abstract

    QIN YU1,2,#, CHEN CHEN4,5,#, HAIYAN ZHANG6,#, JIN CHEN2, JUNKANG SHEN1,3,*, JUN YAN5,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.6, pp. 1279-1292, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.027553

Abstract Background: HLA-DMA presents pathogen-derived antigens to CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, respectively, and plays a significant part in initiating the immune response. So far, the impact of HLA expression on the prognosis of BC cells is controversial, because few studies have shown that the expressions of some HLA genes are related to the improvement of the survival rate. Up till now, however, the relationship between HLA-DMA and LUAD has not yet been assessed. Methods: We analyzed the TCGA database and assessed the prognostic value of HLA-DMA in LUAD. We conducted the Kruskal–Wallis and Wilcoxon signed-rank test and utilized logistic regression… More >

lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 Is Associated With Prognosis in Lung Adenocarcinoma and Promotes Cell Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion

Zhenjun Liu*, Pei Zhao*, Yuping Han, Song Lu*

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 39-45, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15199482824130

Abstract Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to play important roles in tumorigenesis. In the present study, we demonstrated that lncRNA forebrain embryonic zinc finger protein 1 (FEZF1) antisense RNA1 (FEZF1-AS1) is markedly upregulated in human lung adenocarcinoma (LAD) tissues and cell lines and is associated with poor prognosis. Loss of function revealed that deletion of FEZF1-AS1 expression significantly inhibited the LAD cell proliferation, invasion, and migration. Further studies revealed that downregulation of FEZF1-AS1 reduced mRNA and protein expression of its sense-cognate gene FEZF1 in LAD cells, and vice versa. Correlation analysis indicated that there was a positive correlation between… More >

Youwei Zhang*, Bi Chen, Yongsheng Wang, Qi Zhao, Weijun Wu§, Peiying Zhang*, Liyun Miao, Sanyuan Sun*

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.7, pp. 751-761, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15372657298381

Abstract Acquired resistance remains a key challenge in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)–tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) therapy in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Recent studies have shown that Notch signaling is associated with drug resistance. However, its role and possible mechanisms in EGFR-TKI resistance are not yet clear. In our study, we found that among four members of NOTCH1–4, only NOTCH3 was upregulated in LUAD tissues and TKI-resistant cell line (HCC827GR6). Knockdown of NOTCH3 by siRNA significantly inhibited proliferative ability, and decreased colony and sphere formation in HCC827GR6 cells. Then miR-150 was identified as a posttranscriptional regulator of NOTCH3. Its expression was downregulated… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.6, pp. 635-641, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15288447760357

Abstract Apatinib is an oral TKI with antiangiogenic properties, and it is currently approved for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer in China. This agent has also been tested in other human solid tumors, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Since the combination of chemotherapy and an antiangiogenic agent has been shown to be a feasible strategy in NSCLC, it is conceivable that a similar approach combining apatinib with chemotherapy may yield clinical activity. With this in mind, we investigated the efficiency of apatinib in combination with pemetrexed or docetaxel in advanced NSCLC. We treated a total of 20 patients with… More >
