Abstract Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), also known as Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-COV2) and it has imposed deep concern on public health globally. Based on its fast-spreading breakout among the people exposed to the wet animal market in Wuhan city of China, the city was indicated as its origin. The symptoms, reactions, and the rate of recovery shown in the coronavirus cases worldwide have been varied . The number of patients is still rising exponentially, and some countries are now battling the third wave. Since the most effective treatment of this disease has not been discovered so far, early detection of potential… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.1, pp. 389-404, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.018619

Abstract Ubiquitous computing supports U-learning to develop and implement a new educational environment that provides effective and interactive learning to students wherever they are. This study aims to present a qualitative evaluation for using U-learning instead of traditional education to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. The authors introduce a UTAUT (Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology) model to assess the capability of the given factors that are expected to affect the learners’ intention and behavior for accepting the U-learning technology for full E-learning. The research study shows a promising impact on the use of U-learning apps for… More >

An Optimized CNN Model Architecture for Detecting Coronavirus (COVID-19) with X-Ray Images

    Anas Basalamah1, Shadikur Rahman2,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.1, pp. 375-388, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.016949

Abstract This paper demonstrates empirical research on using convolutional neural networks (CNN) of deep learning techniques to classify X-rays of COVID-19 patients versus normal patients by feature extraction. Feature extraction is one of the most significant phases for classifying medical X-rays radiography that requires inclusive domain knowledge. In this study, CNN architectures such as VGG-16, VGG-19, RestNet50, RestNet18 are compared, and an optimized model for feature extraction in X-ray images from various domains involving several classes is proposed. An X-ray radiography classifier with TensorFlow GPU is created executing CNN architectures and our proposed optimized model for classifying COVID-19 (Negative or Positive).… More >

Effect of Weather on the Spread of COVID-19 Using Eigenspace Decomposition

    Manar A. Alqudah1, Thabet Abdeljawad2,3,4,*, Anwar Zeb5, Izaz Ullah Khan5, Fatma Bozkurt6

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.3, pp. 3047-3063, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017752

Abstract Since the end of 2019, the world has suffered from a pandemic of the disease called COVID-19. WHO reports show approximately 113 M confirmed cases of infection and 2.5 M deaths. All nations are affected by this nightmare that continues to spread. Widespread fear of this pandemic arose not only from the speed of its transmission: a rapidly changing “normal life” became a fear for everyone. Studies have mainly focused on the spread of the virus, which showed a relative decrease in high temperature, low humidity, and other environmental conditions. Therefore, this study targets the effect of weather in considering… More >

Lightweight Transfer Learning Models for Ultrasound-Guided Classification of COVID-19 Patients

    Mohamed Esmail Karar1,2, Omar Reyad1,3, Mohammed Abd-Elnaby4, Abdel-Haleem Abdel-Aty5,6, Marwa Ahmed Shouman7,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 2295-2312, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.018671

Abstract Lightweight deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) present a good solution to achieve fast and accurate image-guided diagnostic procedures of COVID-19 patients. Recently, advantages of portable Ultrasound (US) imaging such as simplicity and safe procedures have attracted many radiologists for scanning suspected COVID-19 cases. In this paper, a new framework of lightweight deep learning classifiers, namely COVID-LWNet is proposed to identify COVID-19 and pneumonia abnormalities in US images. Compared to traditional deep learning models, lightweight CNNs showed significant performance of real-time vision applications by using mobile devices with limited hardware resources. Four main lightweight deep learning models, namely MobileNets, ShuffleNets, MENet… More >

Abstract Ever since its outbreak in the Wuhan city of China, COVID-19 pandemic has engulfed more than 211 countries in the world, leaving a trail of unprecedented fatalities. Even more debilitating than the infection itself, were the restrictions like lockdowns and quarantine measures taken to contain the spread of Coronavirus. Such enforced alienation affected both the mental and social condition of people significantly. Social interactions and congregations are not only integral part of work life but also form the basis of human evolvement. However, COVID-19 brought all such communication to a grinding halt. Digital interactions have failed to enthuse the fervor… More >

Dynamical Transmission of Coronavirus Model with Analysis and Simulation

    Muhammad Farman1, Ali Akgül2,*, Aqeel Ahmad1, Dumitru Baleanu3,4,5, Muhammad Umer Saleem6

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.127, No.2, pp. 753-769, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.014882

Abstract COVID-19 acts as a serious challenge to the whole world. Epidemiological data of COVID-19 is collected through media and web sources to analyze and investigate a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equation to understand the outbreaks of this epidemic disease. We analyze the diseases free and endemic equilibrium point including stability of the model. The certain threshold value of the basic reproduction number R0 is found to observe whether population is in disease free state or endemic state. Moreover, the epidemic peak has been obtained and we expect a considerable number of cases. Finally, some numerical results are presented which… More >

A Real-Time Integrated Face Mask Detector to Curtail Spread of Coronavirus

    Shilpa Sethi1, Mamta Kathuria1,*, Trilok Kaushik2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.127, No.2, pp. 389-409, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.014478

Abstract Effective strategies to control COVID-19 pandemic need high attention to mitigate negatively impacted communal health and global economy, with the brim-full horizon yet to unfold. In the absence of effective antiviral and limited medical resources, many measures are recommended by WHO to control the infection rate and avoid exhausting the limited medical resources. Wearing mask is among the non-pharmaceutical intervention measures that can be used as barrier to primary route of SARS-CoV2 droplets expelled by presymptomatic or asymptomatic individuals. Regardless of discourse on medical resources and diversities in masks, all countries are mandating coverings over nose and mouth in public… More >

    Muhammed Binsawad1,*, Marwan Albahar2, Abdullah Bin Sawad1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.2, pp. 2791-2806, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.016141

Abstract The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a devastating impact on the health and welfare of the global population. A key measure to combat COVID-19 has been the effective screening of infected patients. A vital screening process is the chest radiograph. Initial studies have shown irregularities in the chest radiographs of COVID-19 patients. The use of the chest X-ray (CXR), a leading diagnostic technique, has been encouraged and driven by several ongoing projects to combat this disease because of its historical effectiveness in providing clinical insights on lung diseases. This study introduces a dilated bi-branched convoluted neural network (CNN)… More >
