    Shengjun Deng1,2,3,*, Yang He1, Xiaonan Gong2, Jiajin Zhou2, Xiangdong Hu4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.1, pp. 495-516, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020386

Abstract Due to the large number of finite element mesh generated, it is difficult to use full-scale model to simulate largesection underground engineering, especially considering the coupling effect. A regional model is attempted to achieve this simulation. A variable boundary condition method for hybrid regional model is proposed to realize the numerical simulation of large-section tunnel construction. Accordingly, the balance of initial ground stress under asymmetric boundary conditions achieves by applying boundary conditions step by step with secondary development of Dynaflow scripts, which is the key issue of variable boundary condition method implementation. In this paper, Gongbei tunnel based on hybrid… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.1, pp. 363-378, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.022254

Abstract Municipal sludge is a sedimentation waste produced during the wastewater process in sewage treatment plants. Among recent studies, pilot and field tests showed that chemical conditioning combined with vacuum preloading can effectively treat municipal sludge. To further understand the drainage and consolidation characteristics of the conditioning sludge during vacuum preloading, a large deformation nonlinear numerical simulation model based on the equal strain condition was developed to simulate and analyze the pilot and field tests, whereas the simulation results were not satisfactory. The results of the numerical analysis of the pilot test showed that the predicted consolidation degree was greater than… More >

Abstract A calculation model of stress field in laser additive manufacturing of walnut shell composite powder (walnut shell/Co-PES powder) was established. The DFLUX subroutine was used to implement the moveable application of a double ellipsoid heat source by considering the mechanical properties varying with temperature. The stress field was simulated by the sequential coupling method, and the experimental results were in good accordance with the simulation results. In addition, the distribution and variation of stress and strain field were obtained in the process of laser additive manufacturing of walnut shell composite powder. The displacement of laser additive manufacturing walnut shell composite… More > Graphic Abstract

Biomechanics of transendothelial migration by cancer cells

    CLAUDE VERDIER*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.11, pp. 2381-2386, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.021368

Abstract Cancer metastasis is still a major social issue with limited knowledge of the formation of tumors and their growth. In addition the formation of metastases is very difficult to understand, since it involves very complex physical mechanisms such as cellular interactions and cell rheology, which are flow-dependent. Previous studies investigated transendothelial migration using sophisticated techniques such as microfluidics, traction force microscopy (TFM) or Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), combined with physical modeling. Here we summarize recent results and suggest new ways to investigate the precise mechanisms used by cancer cells to undergo transendothelial migration. More >

    Lin Fang1,2,*, Mengjun Wu1,2, Bin Wu3, Honglin Li4, Chenhao He5,*, Fan Sun5

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.3, pp. 1649-1668, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018527

Abstract Based on the theories of the gas seepage in coal seams and the deformation of the coal-rock medium, the gas seepage field in coal-rock mass is coupled with the deformation field of the coal-rock mass to establish a fluid-structure interaction model for the interaction between coal gas and coal-rock masses. The outburst process in coal-rock masses under the joint action of gas pressure and crustal stress is simulated using the material point method. The simulation results show the changes in gas pressure, velocity distribution, maximum principal stress distribution, and damage distribution during the process of the coal and gas outburst,… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.2, pp. 243-255, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.016677

Abstract The large deformation of soft rock tunnel is one of the key problems to be overcome in the tunnel construction stage. In the present study, the deformation mechanism of a representative tunnel and some related countermeasures are investigated using field tests and engineering geological analysis. Owing to the scarce performances of methods based on other criteria such as small pipe spacing, anchor bolt length and steel frame spacing, a new support scheme is implemented and optimized. Results show that shear failure and bedding sliding are produced under high horizontal stress conditions. The low strength of the surrounding rock results in… More >

    Jiao Wang1,*, Xihua Chu2,*, Jinbao Wang3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.2, pp. 653-670, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018207

Abstract Common structures in engineering such as slopes, roadbeds, ballasts, etc., are closely related to granular materials. They are usually subjected to long-term cyclic loads. This study mainly focused on the mechanical behaviors of randomly arranged granular materials before they reach a stable state under different cyclic loads. The variation of the maximum axial strain and the influence of CSR (cyclic stress ratio) were analyzed. The energy consumed in each cycle under constant confining stress loading condition is significantly greater than that of the fixed wall loading condition. The internal deformation evolution of granular materials is studied in detail. The deformation… More >

    Jinrong Hu1, Lujin Li1, Ying Fu1, Maoyang Zou1, Jiliu Zhou1, Shanhui Sun2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 2773-2788, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.017916

Abstract Deformable medical image registration plays a vital role in medical image applications, such as placing different temporal images at the same time point or different modality images into the same coordinate system. Various strategies have been developed to satisfy the increasing needs of deformable medical image registration. One popular registration method is estimating the displacement field by computing the optical flow between two images. The motion field (flow field) is computed based on either gray-value or handcrafted descriptors such as the scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT). These methods assume that illumination is constant between images. However, medical images may not always… More >

    Xiaorui Zhang1,2,*, Xun Sun1, Wei Sun2, Tong Xu1, Pengpai Wang1, Sunil Kumar Jha3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 1041-1053, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.016543

Abstract This paper proposes a soft tissue grasping deformation model, where BP neural network optimized by the genetic algorithm is used to realize the real-time and accurate interaction of soft tissue grasping during virtual surgery. In the model, the soft tissue epidermis is divided into meshes, and the meshes generate displacements under the action of tension. The relationship between the tension and displacement of the mesh is determined by the proposed cylindrical spiral spring model. The optimized BP neural network is trained based on the sample data of the mesh point and vertical tension, so as to obtain the force and… More >
