Abstract The toxic dyestuffs from printing and dyeing wastewater have caused serious damages to the ecological environment, thus exploring effective methods to remove them having become a key topic. Here, a series of biochar samples were synthesized form kenaf to adsorb methylene blue (MB), which was acted as the dye representative for the test of adsorption capacity due to the presence of abundant double bond and aromatic heterocyclic ring. By tuning the raw materials and pyrolysis temperature, a super adsorption capacity about 164.21 mg·g–1 was obtained over the biochar that pyrolyzed at 700°C with the kenaf fiber as raw material. Analysis of Highway Asphalt Modified with Recycled Rubber and Waste Plastics

    Aimin Zhang, Mingzhi Lu*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.4, pp. 907-918, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.018995

Abstract In this study, it is shown how recycled rubber and waste plastics can modify the softening point and penetration of asphalt traditionally used for highways. It is shown that the modified asphalt can meet the performance index requirements when the components are present with a certain proportion or relative ratio (1:3.5). The dispersion process of the masterbatch in base asphalt can effectively be implemented, with good results and a smaller mixing time. The proposed approach may be regarded as a good strategy to achieve energy savings and protection of the environment. More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.7, pp. 1829-1844, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018782

Abstract In order to investigate the effect of the relative motion of nano CaCO3 reinforced bamboo pulp fiber (BPF)/HDPE composite components on the mechanical performance, a comparative study was performed. BPF was treated by nano CaCO3 blending (BM) and impregnation modification (IM) technology. The composites were produced using hot press (HPMP), extrusion (EMP) and injection molding process (IMP). The physical morphology of BPF was similar at different manufacturing processes. Compared to the samples manufactured by HPMP, a decrease in the (specific) flexural strength of BPF/HDPE composites and an increase in those of composites treated by nano CaCO3 manufactured by EMP and… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.17, No.6, pp. 1049-1066, 2021, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2021.016763

Abstract The increasing demand of cooling in internal combustion engines (ICE) due to engine downsizing may require a shift in the heat removal method from the traditional single phase liquid convection to the application of new technologies based on subcooled fluid boiling. Accordingly, in the present study, experiments based on subcooled flow boiling of 50/50 by volume mixture of ethylene glycol and water coolant (EG/W) in a rectangular channel heated by a cast iron block are presented. Different degrees of subcooling, velocity and pressure conditions are examined. Comparison of three empirical reference models shows that noticeable deviations occur especially when low… More >

    Neeti Gandhi1,3, Nicholas Farfaras2, Nien-Hwa Linda Wang3, Wan-Ting Chen2,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.8, pp. 1463-1483, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.015529

Abstract Increasing production and use of various novel plastics products, a low recycling rate, and lack of effective recycling/disposal methods have resulted in an exponential growth in plastic waste accumulation in landfills and in the environment. To better understand the effects of plastic waste, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) was done to compare the effects of various production and disposal methods. LCA shows the specific effects of the cradle-to-grave or cradle-to-cradle scenarios for landfill, incineration, and mechanical recycling. The analysis clearly indicates that increasing recycling of plastics can significantly save energy and eliminate harmful emissions of various carcinogens and GHGs into the… More >

Effect of Poly-Alkylene-Glycol Quenchant on the Distortion, Hardness, and Microstructure of 65Mn Steel

Thi Xuan Tran1, Xuan Phuong Nguyen2, Duong Nam Nguyen3, Dinh Toai Vu1, Minh Quang Chau4, Osamah Ibrahim Khalaf5, Anh Tuan Hoang6,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.3, pp. 3249-3264, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015411

Abstract Currently, the 65Mn steel is quenched mainly by oil media. Even though the lower cooling rate of oil compared to water reduces the hardness of steel post quenching, the deforming and cracking of parts are often minimized. On the other hand, the oil media also has the disadvantage of being flammable, creating smoke that adversely affects the media. The poly alkylene glycol (PAG) polymer quenchant is commonly used for quenching a variety of steels based on its advantages such as non-flammability and flexible cooling rate subjected to varying concentration and stirring speed. This article examines the effect of PAG polymer… More >
