    K. Slámečka1, J.Pokluda1, P. Ponížil 2, P. Šandera1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.1, No.4, pp. 153-160, 2007, DOI:10.3970/icces.2007.001.153

Abstract In the paper a procedure for evaluation of the fracture surface morphology is described in detail. It consists of the stereophotogrammetrical 3D surface reconstruction followed by the Delaunay triangulation of obtained set of surface points. The potential of the procedure is demonstrated using fracture surfaces generated under combined bending-torsion fatigue loading of specimens made from high-strength low-alloy Cr-Al-Mo steel. Fracture profiles extracted from calculated 3D meshes are characterized by the root mean square roughness and the Hurst exponent. As a main result of the analysis the critical portion of the torsion loading component after which More >

    P.D. Shah1, C.L. Tan1, X. Wang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.1, No.2, pp. 75-80, 2007, DOI:10.3970/icces.2007.001.075

Abstract The path-independent mutual- or M-integral for the computation of the T-stress for interface cracks lying between dissimilar anisotropic, linear elastic solids is developed in this paper. For the numerical stress analysis, the Boundary Element Method (BEM) is employed and special crack-tip elements with the proper oscillatory traction singularity are used. The successful implementation of the scheme for evaluating the T-stress of an interface crack between anisotropic bi-materials with BEM is demonstrated by numerical examples. More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.6, No.1, pp. 43-50, 2007, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2007.006.043

Abstract Presented herein are the evaluation results of the BGA solder ball shape using energy method, two types of solder, viz. Sn37Pb and Sn80Pb, are selected .The geometry of the solder bump is firstly estimated using free computer software, the Surface Evolver, an interactive program which is an energy-based approach for the study of liquid droplet surfaces shaped by surface tension and other energies. The solder bump is then numerically constructed in a finite element model that simulates a BGA package. The influences of both upper and bottom solder pad radii, the surface tension on the… More >

    M.E. RÜTTLER, C.S. YANZÓN, M.J. CUITIÑO, N.F. RENNA, M.A. PIZARRO, A.M. ORTIZ.

    BIOCELL, Vol.30, No.2, pp. 301-308, 2006, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2006.30.301

Abstract Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) has been implicated in sporadic diarrhea in children and adults and has been identified as the cause of several outbreaks worldwide. The HEp-2 test remains the gold standard for identification of this pathotype. A 60-65 MDa plasmid encodes the aggregative adherence fimbriae (AAF/I and AAF/II), a transcriptional activator (aggR gene), the enteroaggregative heat-stable enterotoxin EAST1 (astA gene) and a cytotoxin (Pet). The standard assay for EAEC is performed only in research laboratories, because it is expensive, labor intensive and time-consuming. The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) offers the possibility of rapid diagnosis. In the… More >

Evaluation of cytotoxic potential of latex of Calotropis procera and Podophyllotoxin in Allum cepa root model

    R. SEHGAL, S. ROY, V.L. KUMAR*

    BIOCELL, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 9-13, 2006, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2006.30.009

Abstract In the present study we have utilized the Allium cepa root tip meristem model to evaluate the cytotoxic and anti-mitotic activities of latex of Calotropis procera (DL) and podophyllotoxin. Standard cytotoxic drug cyclophosphamide and non-cytotoxic drugs cyproheptadine and aspirin served as controls. Like cyclophosphamide, both DL and podophyllotoxin significantly inhibited the growth of roots and mitotic activity in a dose-dependent manner. However, podophyllotoxin was more potent in this regard and produced root decay. Cyproheptadine and aspirin, on the other hand, showed a marginal effect on the root growth and mitotic activity at much higher concentrations. More >

Numerical Evaluation of T-stress Solutions for Cracks in Plane Anisotropic Bodies

    P.D. Shah1, Ch. Song2, C.L. Tan1, X. Wang1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.2, No.4, pp. 225-238, 2006, DOI:10.3970/sdhm.2006.002.225

Abstract Numerical T-stress solutions in two dimensional anisotropic cracked bodies are very scarce in the literature. Schemes to evaluate this fracture parameter in anisotropy have been reported only fairly recently. Among them are those developed in conjunction with two different computational techniques, namely, the Boundary Element Method (BEM) and the Scaled Boundary Finite-Element Method (SBFEM). This paper provides a review of the respective schemes using these techniques and demonstrates their efficacy with three examples. These examples, which are of engineering importance, involve cracks lying in a homogeneous medium as well as at the interface between dissimilar media. More >

Abstract This paper presents an overview of the achievements of a research and development project sponsored by the European Commission in the general area of Key Actions and New Perspectives in Aeronautics. The project was coordinated by Alenia and involved partners from major European Aircraft and Helicopter manufactures as well as research institutions and universities. The project was in support of EU policies on energy and environment, in addition to those on transport, economic and social cohesion, industry and, of course, research and technology.

    A. Frangi1, L. Ghezzi, P. Faure-Ragani2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.15, No.1, pp. 41-48, 2006, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2006.015.041

Abstract Three dimensional magneto-mechanical problems at low frequency are addressed by means of a coupled fast Boundary Element - Finite Element approach with total scalar potential and focusing especially on the issue of global force calculation on movable ferromagnetic parts. The differentiation of co-energy in this framework and the use of Maxwell tensor are critically discussed and the intrinsic links are put in evidence. Three examples of academic and industrial applications are employed for validation. More >

Evaluation of T-stress for An Interface Crack between Dissimilar Anisotropic Materials Using the Boundary Element Method

    P.D. Shah1, C.L. Tan1,2, X. Wang1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.13, No.3, pp. 185-198, 2006, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2006.013.185

Abstract In this paper, the path independent mutual or M-integral for the computation of the T-stress for interface cracks between dissimilar anisotropic, linear elastic solids, is developed. The required auxiliary field solution is derived from the solution of the problem of an anisotropic composite wedge subjected to a point force at its apex. The Boundary Element Method (BEM) is employed for the numerical stress analysis in which special crack-tip elements with the proper oscillatory traction singularity are used. The successful implementation of the procedure for evaluating the T-stress in a bi-material interface crack and its application are demonstrated More >
