A Data-Driven Systematic Review of the Metaverse in Transportation: Current Research, Computational Modeling, and Future Trends

    Cecilia Castro1, Victor Leiva2,*, Franco Basso2,3

Abstract Metaverse technologies are increasingly promoted as game-changers in transport planning, connected-autonomous mobility, and immersive traveler services. However, the field lacks a systematic review of what has been achieved, where critical technical gaps remain, and where future deployments should be integrated. Using a transparent protocol-driven screening process, we reviewed 1589 records and retained 101 peer-reviewed journal and conference articles (2021–2025) that explicitly frame their contributions within a transport-oriented metaverse. Our review reveals a predominantly exploratory evidence base. Among the 101 studies reviewed, 17 (16.8%) apply fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making, 36 (35.6%) feature digital-twin visualizations or simulation-based testbeds,… More > Graphic Abstract

Spatial Multi-Presence System to Increase Security Awareness for Remote Collaboration in an Extended Reality Environment

    Jun Lee1, Hyun Kwon2,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 369-384, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.036052 - 29 April 2023

Abstract Enhancing the sense of presence of participants is an important issue in terms of security awareness for remote collaboration in extended reality. However, conventional methods are insufficient to be aware of remote situations and to search for and control remote workspaces. This study proposes a spatial multi-presence system that simultaneously provides multiple spaces while rapidly exploring these spaces as users perform collaborative work in an extended reality environment. The proposed system provides methods for arranging and manipulating remote and personal spaces by creating an annular screen that is invisible to the user. The user can… More >

Application of XR-Based Virtuality-Reality Coexisting Course

    Chun Xu1,*, Linyue Zhang2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.3, pp. 1843-1855, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.020365 - 09 October 2021

Abstract Significant advances in new emerging technologies such as the 5th generation mobile networks (5G), Expand the reality (XR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) enable extensive three-dimensional (3D) experience and interaction. The vivid 3D virtual dynamic displays and immersive experiences will become new normal in near future. The XR-based virtuality-reality co-existing classroom goes beyond the limitations of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). Such technology also enables integration of the digital and physical worlds and further creates a smart classroom featuring co-existed virtuality and reality. In this paper, we show an application of… More >
