    Faster Than Real Time Stochastic Fire Spread Simulations

    Abstract Faster than real time stochastic fire spread predictions are reported using a Non-Intrusive Spectral Projection (NISP) method based on Polynomial Chaos expansion and Graphic Processing Units (GPUs). The fireLib BEHAVE model together with a raster surface fire growth algorithm was implemented using the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) programming language. The uncertainty generated by the four random variables considered (wind speed, wind direction, fuel moisture, and fuel load) is quantified in the stochastic solution.     Abstract Taking advantage of the parameter identification, a new numerical method is developed in this paper to estimate the maximal temperature gradients reached in fire-damaged concrete structures. This method can avoid the hypotheses of temperature-time curve and fire duration usually made in conventional numerical methods, availably evaluate the depth and degree of fire damage of concrete structures and consider the effects of localized fire.     Abstract The residual stiffness of concrete member after fire is a very important parameter of the load-bearing ability and seismic performance of fire-damaged concrete structures. It is also one of the most important criteria for repairing and reinforcing the fire-damaged concrete structures.     Abstract Based on the upper bound theorem, the fire resistance is studied using the combination of element collapse mechanisms of steel frames, where the element collapse mechanisms are automatically determined from independent mechanisms. The fire limit load is calculated by solving a nonlinear mathematical programming. The computing procedure is programmed by FORTRAN language. Results show that this method is useful to find the collapse mechanism with the lowest fire limit load, which can provide a theoretical and practical way for the fire design of steel frame structure.
