    Abstract Invertase (INV), a key enzyme in sucrose metabolism, irreversibly catalyzes the hydrolysis of sucrose to glucose and fructose, thus playing important roles in plant growth, development, and biotic and abiotic stress responses. In this study, we identified 27 members of the BnaINV family in Brassica napus. We constructed a phylogenetic tree of the family and predicted the gene structures, conserved motifs, cis-acting elements in promoters, physicochemical properties of encoded proteins, and chromosomal distribution of the BnaINVs.     Abstract In this research we present that Carthamus Tinctorius L. (gen. Asteraceae, otherwise known as Safflower) (Fig. 1) may contain agents active in Cryptococcal infections, malaria and Leishmaniasis, as treatment options are becoming scarce due to drug resistance development. Phytochemistry and pharmacological activities (antimicrobial, antimalarial, antileishmanial) of C. tinctorius L. were analyzed.     Abstract Agmatine, 2-(4-aminobutyl)guanidine, has been reported to have neuroprotective effects against various neuronal damages. In this study it was investigated whether agmatine pretreatment rescues the retinal ganglion cells from oxidative injury in vitro. After differentiation of transformed rat retinal ganglion cells (RGC-5 cell line) with staurosporine, agmatine (0.0 to 100.0 μM) pretreatment was performed for 2 hours.     Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antagonistic activity of two endophytic fungal strains, Pseudocercospora kaki and Penicillium sclerotiorum, isolated from the leaves of Camellia sinensis, against the rice blast pathogen Magnaporthe grisea. The inhibitory activity of the two endophytes against M. grisea in dual-culture was compared with that in monoculture.     Analysis of volatile compounds in three unifloral native Chilean honeys

    Abstract Three unifloral honeys were identified by the pronounced presence of specific compounds by means of sensorial analysis and SPME-GC-MS. Smoky and resinous (‘propolis’) odors characterized unifloral “quillay” (Quillaja saponaria) honey. “Corontillo” (Escallonia pulverulenta) honey was characterized by caramel and vanillin aromas, and “ulmo” (Eucryphia cordifolia) honey by having an anise scent with a floral jasmine note. Safranal was a useful marker for “corontillo” honey. Isophorone and cetoisophorone were the distinctive compounds of unifloral “ulmo” honey. In “quillay” honeys, megastigmatrienone, 2-p-hydroxyphenylalcohol and minor quantities of β-pinene and linalool oxide were correlated with their sensory properties such as resinous. More >

    Influence of thrust vectoring on radiative heat flux from plume flow

    Abstract A finite volume method with nongray gases is applied to examine the radiative base heating due to plume which is changed by mechanical deflection. Numerical approaches are made to predict the effect of TVC. The radiative properties within plume flow are modeled with the weighted sum of 4 gray gases. The exhaust plume is considered as an absorbing and emitting medium with no scattering. Flow field is molded with using Preconditioned Navier-Stokes(N-S) algorithms with multi-block. The Geometric Conservation Law(GCL) is considered to compute the nozzle moving mechanism. The radiative base heating is changed by the nozzle deflection angle. More >

    Abstract In this paper, we propose an algorithm to solve a Cauchy problem of the Laplace equation in doubly connected domains for 2D and 3D cases in which the Cauchy data are given on the outer boundary. We want to seek a solution in the form of the single-layer potential and discrete it by parametrization to yield an ill-conditioned system of algebraic equations.
