    Mechanics of Elastomer--Shim Laminates

    A. H. Muhr1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.5, No.1, pp. 11-30, 2007, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2007.005.011

Abstract The mechanics of laminates of elastomer and shims of high modulus material are reviewed. Such structures are often built to provide engineering components with specified, and quite different, stiffnesses in different modes of deformation. The shims may either be rigid or flexible, flat or curved, but are usually close to inextensible, being made of a high modulus material such as steel. On the other hand, rubber has an exceptionally low shear modulus, about one thousandth of its bulk modulus, so that shear of the rubber layers and flexure of the high modulus layers (if thin) are the dominant mechanisms of… More >

    S. Marguet1, P. Rozycki1, L. Gornet1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.4, No.3, pp. 119-136, 2006, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2006.004.119

Abstract This paper deals with the modelling until rupture of composite structures made of glass-fibre / epoxy-resin woven fabrics submitted to dynamic loadings. The model is built at the mesoscale of the elementary ply. It takes into account the slightly nonlinear brittle behaviour of the fibres under tensile sollicitations, their nonlinear behaviour in compression as well as the strongly non linear and irreversible behaviour of the ply in shear. Strain rate effects are also introduced and special attention is paid to the objectivity of the model in the context of finite element calculation. Therefore the choice of a delayed damage mesomodel… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.4, No.1, pp. 31-42, 2006, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2006.004.031

Abstract A multiscale model based on statistical continuum mechanics is proposed to predict the mechanical and electrical properties of heterogeneous porous media. This model is applied within the framework of microstructure sensitive design (MSD) to guide the design of the microstructure in porous lanthanum strontium manganite (LSM) fuel cell electrode. To satisfy the property requirement and compatibility, porosity and its distribution can be adjusted under the guidance of MSD to achieve optimized microstructure. More >

Modelling of Woven Fabrics with the Discrete Element Method

    D. Ballhause1, M. König1, B. Kröplin1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.4, No.1, pp. 21-30, 2006, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2006.004.021

Abstract The mechanical behaviour of woven fabrics is dominated by the kinematics of the constituents on the microscopic scale. Their macroscopic response usually shows non-linearities which are due to the mobility of the interlaced yarns. The major deformation mechanisms of fabrics, i.e. the crimp interchange in case of biaxial tension and the trellising motion of the yarns in case of shear, reflect the dependency of the macroscopic material behaviour on the microstructural deformation mechanisms.
We present a novel modelling approach for woven fabrics which is capable to represent directly and locally the microstructure and its kinematics at yarn level. With… More >

    G. Q. Xie1,2, S. Y. Long1,3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.4, No.1, pp. 11-20, 2006, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2006.004.011

Abstract The concept of the micropolar theory is employed to investigate vibration behaviors of carbon nanotubes. The constitutive relation has been deduced from the two-dimensional analysis of the microstructure of the carbon nanotube. Van der Waals interactions are simulated by a weak spring model. Hamilton's principle is employed to obtain dynamics equations of the multi-walled carbon nanotube. Numerical examples for both single-walled and double-walled carbon nanotubes are presented and the significant difference in vibration behaviors between them has been distinguished. Numerical results show that fundamental frequencies for the cantilever single-walled carbon nanotube decreases with increase of the aspect ratio of them,… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.61, No.1, pp. 227-241, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.06125

Abstract Monitoring, understanding and predicting Origin-destination (OD) flows in a city is an important problem for city planning and human activity. Taxi-GPS traces, acted as one kind of typical crowd sensed data, it can be used to mine the semantics of OD flows. In this paper, we firstly construct and analyze a complex network of OD flows based on large-scale GPS taxi traces of a city in China. The spatiotemporal analysis for the OD flows complex network showed that there were distinctive patterns in OD flows. Then based on a novel complex network model, a semantics mining method of OD flows… More >

    Xinfang Wang1, Lianqing Hong2, Xi Wu3, Jia He3, Ting Wang3,4,*, Hongbo Li5, Shaoling Liu6

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.61, No.1, pp. 141-154, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.06030

Abstract An ultrasonic nomogram was developed for preoperative prediction of Castleman disease (CD) pathological type (hyaline vascular (HV) or plasma cell (PC) variant) to improve the understanding and diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound for this disease. Fifty cases of CD confirmed by pathology were gathered from January 2012 to October 2018 from three hospitals. A grayscale ultrasound image of each patient was collected and processed. First, the region of interest of each gray ultrasound image was manually segmented using a process that was guided and calibrated by radiologists who have been engaged in imaging diagnosis for more than 5 years. In addition,… More >

Three-Dimensional Numerical Analysis of Blast-Induced Damage Characteristics of the Intact and Jointed Rockmass

    Zhiliang Wang1,*, Youpeng Huang1, Feng Xiong1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.60, No.3, pp. 1189-1206, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.04972

Abstract This article reports numerical results investigating the damage evolution and spatial distribution characteristics of intact and jointed rockmass subjected to blast loading. The behaviors of rock material are described by the Holmquist- Johnson-Cook (HJC) constitutive model incorporated in the finite element software LS-DYNA. Results indicate that the damage distribution shows a reverse S-shape attenuation with the increase of the distance from borehole, and a better goodness of fit with the Logistic function is observed. In the single-hole blasting of jointed rockmass, there are two types of regions around the intersection of borehole and joint in which the damage degree is… More >

MSICST: Multiple-Scenario Industrial Control System Testbed for Security Research

    Wei Xu1,2, Yaodong Tao2,3, Chunfang Yang4,*, Huiqin Chen5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.60, No.2, pp. 691-705, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05678

Abstract A security testbed is an important aspect of Industrial Control System (ICS) security research. However, existing testbeds still have many problems in that they cannot fully simulate enterprise networks and ICS attacks. This paper presents a Multiple-Scenario Industrial Control System Testbed (MSICST), a hardware-in-the-loop ICS testbed for security research. The testbed contains four typical process scenarios: thermal power plant, rail transit, smart grid, and intelligent manufacturing. We use a combination of actual physical equipment and software simulations to build the process scenario sand table and use real hardware and software to build the control systems, demilitarized zone, and enterprise zone… More >
