Suli Shi, Yu Qiang, Yuanwei Lu*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.22, No.3, pp. 158-158, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05362

Abstract Low cost heat charge and discharge can be realized by the single storage thermal tank integrated with a coil heat exchanger and an annular baffle. Arrangements of the coil heat exchanger will directly affect the heat discharging performance of the system. Simulations were performed for six arrangements of the coil heat exchanger which are evaluated by outlet temperature, heat transfer rate and heat discharging efficiency. For different arrangements, the law of heat discharging performance of the single thermal storage tank is given, and the change of flow field around the coil heat exchanger is analyzed. The results show that the… More >

    T. Podoba1, L. Tomsu1, K. Vlcek1, M. Heczko

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.15, No.4, pp. 111-122, 2010, DOI:10.3970/icces.2010.015.111

Abstract Surface reconstruction based on chaotic systems or exactly given point clouds is very difficult area. Current algorithms such as Marching Cube or Voronoi Filtering do not use methods based on artificial intelligence. In this paper, we investigate solution of polygonal surface construction based on AI. The main purpose is to generate complex polygonal mesh structures based on strange attractors with fractal structure. Attractors have to be created as 4D objects using quaternion algebra or using methods of AI. Polygonal mesh can have different numbers of polygons because of iterative application of this system. Our main goal is to develop new… More >

Modeling of the bolted joint behavior variability \\ with the Lack of Knowledge theory

    F. Gant1, L. Champaney1, Ph. Rouch1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.14, No.3, pp. 97-98, 2010, DOI:10.3970/icces.2010.014.097

Abstract Widely used in aeronautics, bolted and riveted joints are subject to high and various loads during flight. The design of such elements is quite a challenge because of their large number and uncertain nonlinear behavior. Indeed, the control of joint properties such as bolt pretension, bolt hole clearance, and friction during manufacturing processes is an issue.
Engineering design uses a factor of safety (FoS) to quantify uncertainties, which often leads to an oversized structure. Here, the aim is to model uncertainty effects on quantities of interest in order to redefine a more accurate FoS that could reduce manufacturing costs.

Application of Kalman Filter and H Methodologies to Estimate Attitude of a Satellite Control System Simulator

    L.C.G. DeSouza1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.5, No.3, pp. 163-172, 2008, DOI:10.3970/icces.2008.005.163

Abstract Satellite Attitude Control System usually does not have all the states available for feedback; therefore, full state estimation by any sort of filtering methodology becomes essential. A good estimation algorithm must filter out the undesirable noise from the measurement signal. Kalman Filter (KF) technique is a traditional procedure to estimate the states of a linear system that are not always measured directly by the sensors, minimizing the variance of the estimated error. However, the KF is not fully robustness proven in face of unpredictable noise sources and it is not always able to minimize the error under severe conditions. In… More >

Crack Propagation-Based Fatigue Evaluation of Rib-to-Deck Welded Joints of Orthotropic Steel Bridge Deck by Using Schwartz-Neuman Alternating Method

    Yabin Yang, Guangyu Shi*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.21, No.2, pp. 35-35, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05623

Abstract The efficient and high performance orthotropic steel decks have been widely used in long span bridges over the world. The initial defects at welded joints of orthotropic steel bridge decks will undergo fatigue failure under the action of live load of moving vehicles on the bridge decks. And the fatigue cracks at the rib-to-deck welded joints are the most dangerous cracks for the orthotropic steel bridge decks. Therefore, the fatigue life evaluation of the rib-to-deck welded joints is very important for the safety of orthotropic steel bridge decks. This paper presents a crack propagation-based model for the fatigue life prediction… More >

Alternating iteration method in multi-connected crack interactions

    C. K. Chen1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.9, No.3, pp. 163-178, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.009.163

Abstract A classical alternating iteration method is applied to evaluate the stress intensity factors for a mixed oriented crack approaching semi-infinite plane or a straight crack. Conventional Gaussian-Legedre quadrature scheme is employed for the numerical integration in the crack vs. free boundary interacting problems; however, averaged image stresses along crack surfaces are invoked to simplify the alternating procedures in crack vs. crack interaction. Good correlation was achieved between the iterated solutions and the available solutions in the literature. As crack approach the free semi-infinite plane, mode I affect increases, however, maximum mode II stress intensity factors may shift to the lower… More >

    Princy Matlani1,*, Manish Shrivastava1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.119, No.3, pp. 427-458, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2019.04985

Abstract Real-time wild smoke detection utilizing machine based identification method is not produced proper accuracy, and it is not suitable for accurate prediction. However, various video smoke detection approaches involve minimum lighting, and it is required for the cameras to identify the existence of smoke particles in a scene. To overcome such challenges, our proposed work introduces a novel concept like deep VGG-Net Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for the classification of smoke particles. This Deep Feature Synthesis algorithm automatically generated the characteristics for relational datasets. Also hybrid ABC optimization rectifies the problem related to the slow convergence since complexity is reduced.… More >

    Muhammad Arsalan1, Falin Wu1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 249-261, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2019.04430

Abstract A good design of LNA for S band satellite navigation receivers and 4G LTE wireless communication system has been implemented in this paper. Due to increased congestion in the present L band, the S Band frequency from 2483.5-2500 MHz has been allocated for the future satellite navigation systems. For this purpose ATF-34143 amplifier (pHEMT) having high electron mobility and fast switching response has been chosen due to its very low Noise Figure (NF). The amplifier has been designed having bandwidth of 0.8 GHz from 1.8-2.6 GHz. Because of the large bandwidth, the amplifier could serve many wireless communication applications including… More >

3D Web Reconstruction of a Fibrous Filter Using Sequential Multi-Focus Images

    Lingjie Yu1,2, Guanlin Wang1, Chao Zhi1, Bugao Xu1,2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 365-372, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2019.04494

Abstract A fibrous filtering material is a kind of fiber assembly whose structure exhibits a three-dimensional (3D) network with dense microscopic open channels. The geometrical/morphological attributes, such as orientations, curvatures and compactness, of fibers in the network is the key to the filtration performance of the material. However, most of the previous studies were based on materials’ 2D micro-images, which were unable to accurately measure these important 3D features of a filter’s structure. In this paper, we present an imaging method to reconstruct the 3D structure of a fibrous filter from its optical microscopic images. Firstly, a series of images of… More >
