Mingxin Li, Benzhi Hou, Yihua Zheng*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.11, pp. 3079-3091, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.020167

Abstract This work proposes a novel heating and cooling system, with incorporated thermoelectric module, that can achieve energy balance using a self-water supply heat exchange subsystem. The thermoelectric effect is used to achieve controlled and adjustable heating of the circulating water. Simulations were conducted to study the thermal performance of the system while it simultaneously produces hot and cold water, with different working conditions for the hot-and cold-side water outlets. The results show that the water temperature at the hot side outlet increases from 32°C to 75°C when the power increases from 4.5 to 50 W. Additionally, the use of thermoelectric… More >

    Fang Liu1, Yonghui You2, Min Wang1,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 1827-1839, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019132

Abstract CoSbS-based compounds are good thermoelectric materials with low thermal conductivity and good electrical properties, which can effectively be used to improve the efficiency of many thermoelectric conversion processes. In order to improve their properties even more, in this study a series of experiments have been conducted in the frame of the traditional solid-phase synthesis and high-pressure method. It is shown that if the mass fluctuation and stress fluctuation in the considered CoSbS system increase, the scattering probability of phonons is enhanced and the lattice thermal conductivity of the material is reduced. Adding a small amount of Se can simultaneously optimize… More >

Prediction of the Behavior of a Power System Using Root Cause Failure Analysis

Seyed Mohammad Seyed Hosseini*, Kamran Shahanaghi, Safar Shasfand

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 815-833, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019626

    Abstract

The thermo-economic performance of a gas turbine is simulated using a fish bone technique to characterize the major equipment failure causes. Moreover a fault tree analysis and a Pareto technique are implemented to identify the related failure modes, and the percentage and frequency of failures, respectively. A pump 101 and drier 301 belonging to the Tabriz Petrochemical Company are considered for such analysis, which is complemented with a regression method to determine a behavioral model of this equipment over a twenty-year period. Research findings indicate that 81% of major failure factors in production equipment are related to the executive procedures… More >

    Jun Yan1,2, Qianqian Sui1, Zhirui Fan1, Zunyi Duan3,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.2, pp. 967-986, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.017708

Abstract This study establishes a multiscale and multi-material topology optimization model for thermoelastic lattice structures (TLSs) considering mechanical and thermal loading based on the Extended Multiscale Finite Element Method (EMsFEM). The corresponding multi-material and multiscale mathematical formulation have been established with minimizing strain energy and structural mass as the objective function and constraint, respectively. The Solid Isotropic Material with Penalization (SIMP) interpolation scheme has been adopted to realize micro-scale multi-material selection of truss microstructure. The modified volume preserving Heaviside function (VPHF) is utilized to obtain a clear 0/1 material of truss microstructure. Compared with the classic topology optimization of single-material TLSs,… More >
