    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.9, pp. 2101-2109, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.019807

Abstract We investigated the diversity and composition of microflora in feces of Lycopus lucidus Turcz.-fed mice. In addition, we evaluated the production of major cytokines (Interleukin-6 and -10) which are related to inflammation and fatty acid composition of several tissues. 16S ribosomal DNA sequencing-based microbiome taxonomic profiling analysis was performed utilizing the EzBioCloud data base. Male mice fed on L. lucidus showed a significantly reduced number of lactic acid bacteria and coliform in the feces compared with the control group (p < 0.05). 16S rDNA sequencing analysis of fecal samples showed that L. lucidus supplementation decreased the community of harmful microflora… More >

Abstract Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a common microvascular complication that easily leads to end-stage renal disease. It is important to explore the key biomarkers and molecular mechanisms relevant to diabetic nephropathy (DN). We used highthroughput RNA sequencing to obtain the genes related to DN glomerular tissues and healthy glomerular tissues of mice. Then we used LIMMA to analyze differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between DN and non-diabetic glomerular samples. And we performed KEGG, gene ontology functional (GO) enrichment, and gene set enrichment analysis to reveal the signaling pathway of the disease. The CIBERSORT algorithm based on support vector machine was used to… More >

Abstract Testicular damage is one of the most hazardous effects as it’s associated with azoospermia. Busulfan (Bu) is a highly toxic chemotherapeutic drug that affects testis. Thirty male Swiss albino mice divided into six groups of 5 animals each. Control (oral 0.9% saline daily for 75 days); Mel (20 mg/kg/day orally for 30 days); ZnO NPs (5 mg/kg/day i.p. for 30 days); BU (single i.p. injection of 40 mg/kg and then left for 45 days); BU + Mel (single 40 mg/kg dose of BU and left for 45 days followed by 20 mg/kg/day Mel for 30 days); BU + ZnO NPs… More >

Abstract Psoriasis is an autoimmune-related chronic inflammatory disease with an approximate prevalence of 2–3% around the world, involving increased keratinocyte proliferation. Indeed, Th17 cells and IL-17 play critical roles in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. The monoclonal antibodies against cytokines have been shown to have effectively immunosuppressive effects on human psoriasis. However, there are still some patients that have no response to these treatments. Some patients have even serious side-effects which may affect their life. Mesenchymal stem cells have the ability of immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory effects, which may be an alternative therapy with more safety and efficacy for human psoriasis. Moreover, the… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.2, pp. 339-344, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.011379

Abstract Since stem cell therapy is the most effective treatment in the field of tissue reparation and reconstitution, the present study aimed to explore the different sources of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) on the different effects of pulmonary fibrosis-related cytokines in C57BL/6 mice. For reaching this goal, we isolated MSCs from umbilical cord blood and placenta and used for stem cell therapy in a mouse model of pulmonary fibrosis model. The pulmonary fibrosis model was done by injecting bleomycin into the trachea of C57BL/6 mice. Then we assessed the degree of pulmonary fibrosis in each mouse lung tissue at weeks 1,… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.1, pp. 109-117, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.012048

Abstract Wilson disease (WD), known as hepatolenticular degeneration (HLD), is a treatable autosomal recessive disorder of copper metabolism. Because copper deposits in the liver first, the liver is not only the original defective organ but also the most affected organ. The liver injury is also one of the main causes of death throughout the course of the disease. Therefore, the treatment of liver injury is the main task of WD treatment, which is of great significance to improve the prognosis of patients. Autophagy is a process that promotes cell survival through degradation, recycling, and absorption in order to maintain the normal… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.44, No.4, pp. 655-669, 2020, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.013202

Abstract Heat stress (HS) reaction can lead to serious physiological dysfunction associated with cardiovascular and various organ diseases. Ginsenoside Rg3 (G-Rg3) is a representative component of ginseng rare saponin and can protect against multiple organs, also used as functional food to adjust the balance of the human body, but the therapeutic effect and molecular mechanism of G-Rg3 on male diseases under HS are underexplored. The aim of the present study, G-Rg3 was prepared through the efficient conversion of ginsenoside Rd and investigate the contribution of G-Rg3 to testicular injury induced exposure to HS. All mice were divided into four groups as… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.44, No.3, pp. 353-361, 2020, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.08955

Abstract As a natural analog of resveratrol, piceatannol (Pic) exhibits good antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities in different disease models. However, the role of Pic in type 1 diabetes mouse model has not been reported yet. In this study, we investigated the in vivo effect of Pic in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced type 1 diabetic mice. Mice were injected with STZ to establish the type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) model. After stable hyperglycemia was achieved, mice were then orally treated with Pic (40 mg/kg b.w., i.g.) for 30 days. The results indicated that Pic supplementation efficiently alleviated the typical symptoms associated with T1DM, including… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.44, No.3, pp. 301-313, 2020, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.011208

Abstract Elemental sulfur has been used as a traditional Chinese medicine to treat the late-onset hypogonadism and impotence without a clarified mechanism for many hundreds of years. In the present study, mice were received sulfur or distilled water for 35 days by daily intragastric gavage at a dose of 250 mg/kg body weight. Then, the serum testosterone level and genes associated with testicular testosterone biosynthesis (TTB) were detected. The gut microbiota was also analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Serum testosterone level was significantly increased by 291.1% in sulfur-treated mice. The H2S levels in serum and feces were significantly increased. The… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.33, No.3, pp. 187-197, 2009, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2009.33.187

Abstract The effect of manganese toxicity on the ultrastructure of the olfactory bulb was evaluated. Male albino mice were injected intraperitoneally with MnCl2 (5 mg/Kg/day) five days per week during nine weeks. The control group received NaCl (0.9%). The olfactory bulbs of five mice from each group were processed for transmission electron microscopy after 2, 4, 6 and 9 weeks of manganese treatment. On week 2, some disorganization of the myelin sheaths was observed. After 4 weeks, degenerated neurons with dilated cisternae of rough endoplasmic reticulum and swollen mitochondria appeared. A certain degree of gliosis with a predominance of astrocytes with… More >
