    Antioxidant capacity of vitamin C in mouse liver and kidney tissues

    Abstract In the present study, the antioxidant capacity of vitamin C was examined in the liver and the kidney tissues of mice with or without ciprofloxacin (CFX) treatment. The antioxidant capacity of the vitamin was evaluated in terms of lipid hydroperoxides (LOOH) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARs). The experimental design was 15 days of water (control and CFX groups) or vitamin C (vitamin C and vitamin C plus CFX groups) in drinking water. One dose of CFX was injected, 15 minutes before sacrifice, in the corresponding mice.

    Extracellular breakdown of collagen by mice decidual cells. A cytochemical and ultrastructural study

    Abstract The interaction of antimesometrial decidual cells and collagen fibrils was studied by light microscopy and ultrastructural cytochemistry in fed and acutely fasted mice on days 9-11 of pregnancy.
    Fibrillar elements in the extracellular space consisted of collagen fibrils and filamentous aggregates (disintegrating collagen fibrils). Intracellular vacuoles exhibited typical collagen immersed in electron-translucent material (clear vacuoles) and faint cross-banded collagen immersed in electron-opaque material (dark vacuoles).
    Fibrillar elements showed extracellular acid phosphatase activity which was stronger in the region of mature decidua than in predecidual cells region in all animals; it was conspicuous in mature decidua of fasted animals.… More >

    Effects of filgrastim on granulopoietic cells of mice pretreated with methotrexate

    Abstract We have evaluated the effect of filgrastim on proliferation and differentiation activity of granulopoietic cells in mice pretreated with methotrexate. Filgrastim was injected daily, from day 8 to 28 after cytotoxic agent administration. The granulopoiesis changes were measured by assessment of GM-CFU cells content, marrow and spleen granuloid cells pool as well as circulating neutrophils. In MTX pretreated mice, bone marrow GM-CFU oscillating values were higher than normal values, but these changes were not followed by high proliferative activity in granuloid precursor cell compartment. After MTX treatment, filgrastim administration was unable to stimulate marrow granulopoiesis as observed in normal mice.… More >

    Abstract Benzimidazole compounds are used in both humans and animals for controlling helminth parasites. Albendazole has teratogenic effects attributed to its active metabolite albendazole sulphoxide. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of the latter compound when administered to pregnant CF1 mice during the preimplantation period. Females were superovulated by intraperitoneal injection of 10 IU of eCG and 10 IU of hCG (48h later) and were paired with males of proven fertility.     Abstract We aimed to illustrate the association between short-term exposure PM0.1 and heart failure in myocardial infarction (MI) mice. Six-week-old ICR mice were divided into three groups randomly: sham group, MI group and MI exposure group, 12 mice in each group.     Abstract Ciprofloxacin (CFX) is an effective and relatively safe antimicrobial used in a variety of human infections. However, adverse drug reactions and positive results in genotoxic tests are reported.

    Abstract Ischemic postconditioning (IP) has been shown to provide protection for ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury, but its efficacy is limited. In this study we hypothesized that spontaneous running wheel (RW) could improve neuroprotection efficacy of IP for IR. We established mouse models of IR and showed that compared to Sham group, IR group had obvious brain infract and neurological dysfunction. In IR+IP group, brain infract and neurological dysfunction improved compared to IR group. However, in IR+IP+RW group brain infract and neurological dysfunction improved much better. TUNEL assay showed that IP but not RW significantly reduced the number of apoptotic cells after IR.… More >
