    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.4, pp. 321-326, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.07992

Abstract The present study aims to explore the effects of p53 and its target gene Rap2B on the autophagy of U2OS cells. U2OS cells were treated with siRNA against p53, Rap2B, and PLCε. Relative expressions of p53, Rap2B, and PLCε were determined using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and Western blotting, respectively. Levels of IP3 in the cells were determined using Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Levels of Ca2+ were detected using Flow cytometry. Fluorescence microscopy was used to observe the autophagy of cells. Knockdown of p53 significantly decreased the expressions of Rap2B protein. Additionally, knockdown of p53 significantly decreased the mRNA… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.34, No.3, pp. 139-144, 2010, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2010.34.139

Abstract Camptothecin and its derivatives are monoterpenoid indole alkaloids exhibiting significant anti-tumor actions. With the aim of improving the production of these pharmaceuticals, the contents of camptothecin and 10-hydroxycamptothecin in different tissues including roots, stems, leaves, young flower buds, opening flowers, fading flowers and seeds from Camptotheca acuminata, were investigated. The young flower buds had the highest alkaloid concentrations (camptothecin, 2.46 mg/g of dry weight; 10- hydroxycamptothecin, 1.41 mg/g of dry weight). Callus showed lower concentrations but it should also be considered as a potential source of these pharmaceuticals. In the present study, the growth rate of Camptotheca acuminata cells in… More >

Polyphenolic profile of Origanum vulgare L. ssp. viridulum from Argentina

González MD, CM Luis, PL Lanzelotti

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.83, pp. 179-184, 2014, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2014.83.179

Abstract Characterization of oregano in Argentina is limited. They are normally known with fancy names, but it is not possible to recognize whether they are genetically equivalent or not. This paper presents a non-volatile polyphenol study of one of the subspecies of Origanum vulgare, O. vulgare L. ssp. viridulum (Martrin-Donos) Nyman [= O. vulgare L. ssp. virens (Hoffmannsegg et Link) Ietswart]. The polyphenols 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)lactic acid, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, caffeic acid, 4-(3.4-dihydroxybenzoyloxymethyl)phenyl β-glucoside and rosmarinic acid were isolated and identified by spectroscopic analysis from leaves and inflorescences of classified material. In addition, the polyphenol profile of the hydroalcoholic extract of this oregano was… More >

Ciprofloxacin increases hepatic and renal lipid hydroperoxides levels in mice

ALICIA I. WEYERS, LAURA I. UGNIA, HUGO GARCÍA OVANDO, NORA B. GORLA*

    BIOCELL, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 225-228, 2002, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2002.26.225

Abstract Ciprofloxacin (CFX) is an effective and relatively safe antimicrobial used in a variety of human infections. However, adverse drug reactions and positive results in genotoxic tests are reported.
In order to understand the possible pathophysiological mechanisms of the toxic effects informed for CFX, lipid hydroperoxides (LOOH) -oxidative mediators of peroxidation- were quantified in liver and kidney of mice, after 15 to 360 minutes of the ciprofloxacin administration at doses of 10 mg/ Kg or 100 mg/ Kg by ip route. The peroxidation in the lipid fraction was evaluated by measuring the amount of hydroperoxides through the oxidation of 1-… More >

A Dynamical Approach to the Spatio-temporal Features of the Portevin-Le Chatelier Effect

    G.Ananthakrishna1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.7, No.3, pp. 233-240, 2005, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2005.007.233

Abstract We show that the extended Ananthakrishna's model exhibits all the features of the Portevin - Le Chatelier effect including the three types of bands. The model reproduces the recently observed crossover from a low dimensional chaotic state at low and medium strain rates to a high dimensional power law state of stress drops at high strain rates. The dynamics of crossover is elucidated through a study of the Lyapunov spectrum. More >
