Abstract Food waste is recognized as a valuable source for potential agricultural applications to supply organic matter and nutrients to arable soil. However, the information on the combined application of food waste and the plant growth-promoting bacterial strain, Chlorella, related to plant metabolic features and sodium chloride content in arable soil is limited. The present study was conducted to investigate the exogenous application of food waste along with Chlorella, which improved the physio-morphological features of red pepper. Our results revealed that this combination enhanced the organic matter in the soil, ultimately improving the fertility rate of the soil, and the physio-morphological… More >

Abstract Intercropping of crops that can secrete bacteriostatic active substances can not only inhibit the occurrence of disease but also have an important effect on plant growth. However, the effects of dandelion intercropping on pepper blight control and pepper growth remain unclear. In this study, the control effect of dandelion on pepper blight was studied by inoculating the pepper leaves with Phytophthora infestans, and it also discusses the correlation of the occurrence of pepper epidemic disease with the pepper canopy environment, soil environment, pepper photosynthesis, and yield index. The results showed that best plant distance for dandelion intercropping was 20 cm… More >

    Doaa Sami Khafaga1, El-Sayed M. El-kenawy2, Amel Ali Alhussan1,*, Marwa M. Eid3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 2117-2132, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.038811

Abstract The accurate prediction of energy consumption has effective role in decision making and risk management for individuals and governments. Meanwhile, the accurate prediction can be realized using the recent advances in machine learning and predictive models. This research proposes a novel approach for energy consumption forecasting based on a new optimization algorithm and a new forecasting model consisting of a set of long short-term memory (LSTM) units. The proposed optimization algorithm is used to optimize the parameters of the LSTM-based model to boost its forecasting accuracy. This optimization algorithm is based on the recently emerged dipper-throated optimization (DTO) and stochastic… More >

    B.B. Divyaa , G. Manjunathaa,† , C. Rajashekhara, Hanumesh Vaidyab, K.V. Prasadc

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.12, pp. 1-9, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.12.15

Abstract The present paper examines the peristaltic mechanism of a Jeffrey fluid through an elastic tube. The influence of velocity slip, convective boundary conditions, and variable liquid properties are taken into account. Closed form solutions are obtained for velocity, flux and temperature fields. In order to linearize the temperature equation, perturbation technique is employed. Also, the flux is determined theoretically via Rubinow and Keller and Mazumdar approach and the results are compared graphically. The effects of various vital parameters on the fluid flow are sketched and analyzed graphically. The findings emphasize the importance of elastic parameters in enhancing the flux of… More >

    Haoran Xu1, Shuai Chen2,*, Xue Song1,3, Jingying Wang1,*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.20, No.1, pp. 15-22, 2023, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2023.029107

Abstract Clinically, it is common for Class III patients with maxillary skeletal deficiency, which may result in a variety of adverse consequences. Protraction headgear and rapid maxillary expansion (PE) is an effective treatment, but its effect on upper airway hydrodynamics has not been reported. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes of the flow in the upper airway after PE by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The sample includes fifteen patients (6 males, 9 females, age 11.00 ± 1.00) and the paired T-test was used to analyze the differences between the measured data before and after treatment. Qi Liu1, Zihao Wu1,*, Xiaodong Liu2

    Journal on Internet of Things, Vol.4, No.3, pp. 169-181, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jiot.2022.040368

Abstract This study proposed a lightweight but high-performance convolution network for accurately classifying five upper limb movements of arm, involving forearm flexion and rotation, arm extension, lumbar touch and no reaction state, aiming to monitoring patient’s rehabilitation process and assist the therapist in elevating patient compliance with treatment. To achieve this goal, a lightweight convolution neural network TMCA-Net (Time Multiscale Channel Attention Convolutional Neural Network) is designed, which combines attention mechanism, uses multi-branched convolution structure to automatically extract feature information at different scales from sensor data, and filters feature information based on attention mechanism. In particular, channel separation convolution is used… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.76, No.1, pp. 1213-1247, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.038211

Abstract Appearance-based dynamic Hand Gesture Recognition (HGR) remains a prominent area of research in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Numerous environmental and computational constraints limit its real-time deployment. In addition, the performance of a model decreases as the subject’s distance from the camera increases. This study proposes a 3D separable Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), considering the model’s computational complexity and recognition accuracy. The 20BN-Jester dataset was used to train the model for six gesture classes. After achieving the best offline recognition accuracy of 94.39%, the model was deployed in real-time while considering the subject’s attention, the instant of performing a gesture, and the… More >
