    Abstract Numerical predictions on heat transfer characteristic, flow topology and thermal performance assessment in a square duct are presented. The passive technique, insertion of the vortex generator, is opted to develop the heat transfer rate in the square duct heat exchanger.     Abstract Background: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition in middle-aged and elderly men. Enlargement of the prostate causes lower urinary tract symptoms. Capsaicin is a phytochemical extracted from chili peppers and exerts many pharmacological actions, such as anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory effects. Methods: Our study investigated the effect of capsaicin in vitro and in a mouse model in vivo. A prostatic stromal myofibroblast cell line (WPMY-1) was co-incubated with testosterone (1 µM) and different concentrations of capsaicin (10–100 µM) for 24 and 48 h.     In Situ Generation of Copper Nanoparticles in Heat-Treated Copper-Containing Masson’s Pine as a Preservative Process for Sawn Timber

    Abstract Heat-treated wood has good dimensional stability, durability, and color, but its susceptibility to fungal growth affects its commercial value. In this study, lumber harvested from mature Masson’s pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.) was vacuum impregnated with a basic copper salt solution (copper hydroxide, diethanolamine, and polyethylene glycol 200) prior to heat-treatment at 220°C for 3 h. Antifungal properties, surface chemistry, crystal structure and sugar contents were tested, compared with heat treatment alone.     Abstract This study numerically investigates pressure loss, heat transfer and thermal efficiency in round tube heat exchangers attached with various types of Vrings. A typical type A V-ring is compared with two types of modified V-rings (type B and C). The impacts of blockage ratios, b/D = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20 for all V-ring types in the turbulent region are discussed (Re = 3000 – 20,000).
