    P. Anitha1, K. Karthik Kumar2,*, M. Ravindran2, A. Saravanaselvan2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 1377-1397, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.025396

Abstract In this paper, efficient charging of electric vehicle battery from a considered renewable solar photovoltaic source with the help of a modified Z source with efficient boosting topology. Adapting this Z-source converter to act as a voltage gainer with a boosting function allows a solar Photovoltaic (PV) input voltage of 25VDC (Volts Direct Current) to be increased to a designed output voltage of 75VDC at a low duty ratio, resulting in minimal switching loss. The closed-loop steady-state and transient parameters at the output were analyzed and compared using modern evolutionary algorithms. The power range upheld throughout the circuit is around… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 1399-1413, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.024482

Abstract A new methodology is used in this paper, for the optimal tuning of Photovoltaic (PV) by integrating the hybrid Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms is proposed. The suggested hybrid MPPT algorithms can raise the performance of PV systems under partial shade conditions. It attempts to address the primary research issues in partial shading conditions in PV systems caused by clouds, trees, dirt, and dust. The proposed system computes MPPT utilizing an innovative adaptive model-based approach. In order to manage the input voltage at the Maximum PowerPoint, the MPPT algorithm changes the duty cycle of the switch in the DC-DC… More >

Dust Deposition’s Effect on Solar Photovoltaic Module Performance: An Experimental Study in India’s Tropical Region

    K. R. Chairma Lakshmi*, Geetha Ramadas

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.8, pp. 2133-2153, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.019649

Abstract A solar PV panel works with maximum efficiency only when it is operated around its optimum operating point or maximum power point. Unfortunately, the performance of the solar cell is affected by several factors like sun direction, solar irradiance, dust accumulation, module temperature, as well as the load on the system. Dust deposition is one of the most prominent factors that influence the performance of solar panels. Because the solar panel is exposed to the atmosphere, dust will accumulate on its surface, reducing the quantity of sunlight reaching the solar cell and diminishing output. In the proposed work, a detailed… More >

    S. K. Janarthanan*, C. Kathirvel

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.1, pp. 33-50, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.023165

Abstract Renewable energy-based power generation, particularly photovoltaic (PV)-connected grid systems, has gained popularity in recent years due to its widespread adoption for residential and commercial customers of all sizes, from kilowatt (KW) to megawatt (MW). The purpose of this work is to demonstrate how an efficient CUK-integrated boost converter with continuous current flow may be used to maximise the output of solar arrays. The constant voltage at the converter output is maintained with increased dynamic performance using a Proportional Integral (PI) controller based on a hybrid optimization technique GWO-PSO (Grey Wolf Optimization-Particle Swarm Optimization). This hybrid solution permits accurate and speedy… More >

Total Cross Tied-Inverted Triangle View Configuration for PV System Power Enhancement

    P. Rajesh1,*, K. S. Saji2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.3, pp. 1531-1545, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.023331

Abstract Electricity can be generated from a photovoltaic cell depending on the amount of solar radiation received from the solar system. But due to some factors such as partial shade conditions, as the thickness of the shade increases, the peak power output from the solar photovoltaic system decreases. Photovoltaic cells can be connected in parallel and in series to generate the required voltage and power. Peak power can be obtained even under shade conditions using the appropriate configuration of solar cells. A novel configuration as Total Cross Tied-Inverted Triangle View (TCT-ITV) is developed in the research by augmenting the Total Cross… More >

Conditional Probability Approach for Fault Detection in Photovoltaic Energy Farms

    Nagy I. Elkalashy1,*, Ibrahim B. M. Taha2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.42, No.3, pp. 1109-1120, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.023509

Abstract Detection of electric faults in photovoltaic (PV) farms enhances a sustainable service continuity of farm energy generation. In this paper, a probabilistic function is introduced to detect the faults in the PV farms. The conditional probability functions are adopted to detect different fault conditions such as internal string faults, string-to-string faults, and string-to-negative terminal faults. As the diodes are important to make the PV farms in-service safely during the faults, the distribution currents of these faults are evaluated with different concepts of diode consideration as well as without considering any diode installation. This part of the study enhances the diode… More >

    Omar H. Abdalla1,*, Gamal Abdel-Salam2, Azza A. A. Mostafa3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 569-589, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.018693

Abstract Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is one of the potential solutions to increase energy system flexibility, as BESS is well suited to solve many challenges in transmission and distribution networks. Examples of distribution network’s challenges, which affect network performance, are: (i) Load disconnection or technical constraints violation, which may happen during reconfiguration after fault, (ii) Unpredictable power generation change due to Photovoltaic (PV) penetration, (iii) Undesirable PV reverse power, and (iv) Low Load Factor (LF) which may affect electricity price. In this paper, the BESS is used to support distribution networks in reconfiguration after a fault, increasing Photovoltaic (PV) penetration,… More >

    Mingda Jiang1, Yanbo Che1, Hongfeng Li1,*, Muhammad Ishaq1, Chao Xing1,2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 699-721, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.017556

Abstract The full-bridge converters usually use transformer leakage inductance and parallel resonant capacitors to achieve smooth current commutation and soft switching functions, which can easily cause problems such as energy leakage and significant duty cycle loss. This paper designs a novel full-bridge zero-current (FB-ZCS) converter with series resonant capacitors and proposes a frequency and phase-shift synthesis modulation (FPSSM) control strategy based on this topology. Compared with the traditional parallel resonant capacitor circuit, the passive components used are significantly reduced, the structure is simple, and there is only a slight energy loss. By controlling the charging time of the capacitor, it can… More >
