Xin YANG*, Liqun LU, Li HUANG, Jing HE, Jie LV

    BIOCELL, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 101-110, 2020, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.08324

Abstract T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is a hematological tumor caused by the malignant transformation of immature T-cell progenitor cells. Emerging studies have stated that microRNAs (miRNAs) may play key roles in T-ALL progression. This study aimed to investigate the roles of miR-145-3p in T-ALL cell proliferation, invasion, and apoptosis with the involvement of the nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) signaling pathway. T-ALL Jurkat cells were harvested, and the expression of miR-145-3p and NF-κB-p65 was measured. Gain- and loss-of-functions of miR-145-3p and NF-κB-p65 were performed to identify their roles in the biological behaviors of Jurkat cells, including proliferation, apoptosis, and invasion. Consequently, the… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 73-80, 2020, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.08613

Abstract Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive malignancies with poor prognosis and high mortality. Recent studies showed that microRNAs are dysregulated and involved in the initiation and progression of pancreatic cancer. In this study, we found that miR-708 was significantly downregulated in pancreatic cancer tissues and cell lines. Lentivirus-mediated overexpression of miR-708 could significantly inhibit the proliferation and invasion, while enhanced chemosensitivity to gemcitabine in both Panc-1 and SW1990 cells. Luciferase reporter assay showed that miR-708 bound the 3’-untranslated region of survivin and suppressed the expression of survivin in pancreatic cancer cells. In pancreatic cancer tissues, survivin protein was… More >

    Xiuchun ZHANG

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.4, pp. 313-319, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.07973

Abstract To investigate the effects of polydatin on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of ovarian cancer, the change of proliferative ability, migration ability, and invasive ability of human ovarian cancer cell OVCAR-3, A2780, and HO-8910 was detected by using polydatin and up-regulating PI3K. The anticancer activity and mechanism of polydatin in ovarian cancer were analyzed. Polydatin could effectively inhibit the proliferation, migration, and invasion of OVCAR-3, A2780, and HO-8910, and inhibit the expression of PI3K protein. After the expression level of PI3K protein was up-regulated, the inhibitory effect of polydatin on the proliferative ability, migration ability, and invasive ability of OVCAR-3,… More >

    MARÍA J. RICO*1,2, PABLO MATAR*1,2, O. GRACIELA SCHAROVSKY1,3

    BIOCELL, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 91-95, 2012, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2012.36.091

Abstract We have already shown that IL-10 plays an important role in immunosuppression and metastatic dissemination in the rat B-cell lymphoma L-TACB model. It was suggested that the up-regulation of IL10 production and IL-10 receptor (IL-10R) expression would be part of the transition from primary tumor to metastatic phenotype and that IL-10, besides its immunosuppressive activity, may act as a growth factor for metastatic L-TACB cells. The treatment of L-TACB-bearing rats with a single low-dose cyclophosphamide decreased IL-10 production, reverted immunosuppression and induced the immunologic rejection of tumor metastasis without any effect on primary tumor growth. Our current aim was to… More >

Changes in the corpora allata and epidermal proliferation along the fourth instar of the Chagas disease vector Triatoma infestans

    JORGE R. RONDEROS

    BIOCELL, Vol.33, No.3, pp. 149-154, 2009, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2009.33.149

Abstract Triatoma infestans, a blood-feeding insect, synchronises physiological mechanisms leading to moult with food intake. Since the corpora allata are important in moult and metamorphosis regulation, we have studied morphological changes in 4th instar nymphs (gland size, cell density, percent of animals showing mitoses and cell size). Changes were correlated with the effect of precocene II, epidermal proliferation, and with the extent of the “head critical period”. Based on morphological grounds, three stages can be defined in the gland along the 4th instar: Stage 1 (days 0-2 after feeding) showed small corpora allata, composed by a small number of cells, and… More >

Cell proliferation of the ileum intestinal mucosa of diabetic rats treated with ascorbic acid

JACQUELINE NELISIS ZANONI, RENATA VIRGINIA FERNANDES PEREIRA

    BIOCELL, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 163-168, 2008, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2008.32.163

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the ascorbic acid supplementation on the cellular proliferation on the ileum mucosa of diabetic rats. Fifteen 90-days rats were divided in the groups: control, diabetic and diabetic supplemented with ascorbic acid (DA). Two hours prior the sacrifice, they were injected with Vincristin. Semi-seriate histological cuts stained with HE were accomplished. About 2500 crypt cells from the intestinal mucosa were counted in order to obtain the metaphasic indexes. The height and depth of 30 villi and 30 crypts were measured for each animal, respectively. The metaphasic indexes showed no significant… More >

Effects of Three-Dimensional Stiffness on the Proliferation, Stemness And Invasion of Hepatic Cancer Stem Cells

    Mengyue Wang1, Runze Zhao1, Fan Feng1, Tingting Xia1,*, Li Yang1,*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.16, Suppl.2, pp. 130-130, 2019, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2019.07154

Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third most common cancer in the world. Previous studies have shown that hard matrix promotes the proliferation of liver tumor cells. However, the role of matrix stiffness on hepatic cancer stem cells (HCSCs) is still unclear. Three-dimensional hydrogels with different stiffness were used to mimic the normal liver tissue (4kPa) and cancerous liver tissue (26kPa) stiffness. The proliferation, stemness and invasion properties of HCSCs under 3D different stiffness were detected. METHOD: HSCSs were screened and cultured by enrichment method, and the effect of matrix stiffness on HCSCs was studied by three-dimensional culture of HCSCs in… More >

    Yanhong ZHEN1, Li HAN2, Kailai CAI1, Lijun HUO1, Hasan RIAZ1, Canjie WU1, Aixin LIANG1 , Lei SANG1, Liguo YANG1 *

    BIOCELL, Vol.38, No.1, pp. 17-24, 2014, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2014.38.017

Abstract Inhibins play important roles in the reproductive system. To evaluate whether inhibin α (1-32) fusion protein plays a role in cervical cancer growth, the plasmid pVAX-inhα was constructed and its effect on proliferation and apoptosis of the human cervical cancer cell line (Hela) was checked by flow cytometry and real-time PCR. The expression and localization of inhibin α protein were detected by RT-PCR and confocal microscopy which showed that inhibin α protein was expressed and localized in the nucleus of Hela cells. Over expression of inhibin α gene significantly induced cell apoptosis and ceased S phase of cell cycle. Furthermore,… More >

Cell-cell communication between mouse mammary epithelial cells and 3T3-L1 preadipocytes: Effect on triglyceride accumulation and cell proliferation

    VANINA L. JULIANELLI1 , LILIANA N. GUERRA*1, JUAN C. CALVO*1,2

    BIOCELL, Vol.31, No.2, pp. 237-245, 2007, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2007.31.237

Abstract Interaction between parenchyma and stroma is essential for organogenesis, morphogenesis, and differentiation. Mammary gland has being the chosen model for developmental biologist because the most striking changes in morphology and function take place after birth. We have demonstrated a regulation of triglyceride accumulation by protein factors synthesized by normal mouse mammary gland epithelial cells (NMMG), acting on a cell line, 3T3-L1, long used as a model for adipogenesis. In this paper, we demonstrate that this inhibitory effect seems to be shared by other cells of epithelial origin but not by other cell types. We found a regulation of cell proliferation… More >
