Md Tanjil Sarker1,*, See Wei Jing1, Gobbi Ramasamy1,*, Siva Priya Thiagarajah1, Md. Golam Sadeque2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.7, pp. 2891-2909, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.065331 - 27 June 2025

Abstract Industrial processes often involve rotating machinery that generates substantial kinetic energy, much of which remains untapped. Harvesting rotational kinetic energy offers a promising solution to reduce energy waste and improve energy efficiency in industrial applications. This research investigates the potential of electromagnetic induction for harvesting rotational kinetic energy from industrial machinery. A comparative study was conducted between disk and cylinder-shaped rotational bodies to evaluate their energy efficiency under various load conditions. Experimental results demonstrated that the disk body exhibited higher energy efficiency, primarily due to lower mechanical losses compared to the cylinder body. A power… More >

    Enas Hassan1, Wafaa Abou-Elseoud1,2, Samar El-Mekkawi3, Mohammad Hassan1,2,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.13, No.6, pp. 1169-1187, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2025.02024-0030 - 23 June 2025

Abstract Saccharification of lignocellulosic wastes is the bottleneck of different bio-based chemical industries. Using enzymes for saccharification of lignocellulosic materials has several advantages over using chemicals. In the current work, the application of the Maximyze® enzyme system, which is industrially used in papermaking, was investigated in the saccharification of paper sludge and fiber dust wastes from the tissue paper industry. For optimizing the saccharification process, the effects of the consistency %, enzyme loading, and incubation time were studied and optimized using the Response Surface Methodology. The effect of these factors on the weight loss of paper sludge… More > Graphic Abstract

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.3, pp. 905-927, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.058916 - 07 March 2025

Abstract Electrical energy can be harvested from the rotational kinetic energy of moving bodies, consisting of both mechanical and kinetic energy as a potential power source through electromagnetic induction, similar to wind energy applications. In industries, rotational bodies are commonly present in operations, yet this kinetic energy remains untapped. This research explores the energy generation characteristics of two rotational body types, disk-shaped and cylinder-shaped under specific experimental setups. The hardware setup included a direct current (DC) motor driver, power supply, DC generator, mechanical support, and load resistance, while the software setup involved automation testing tools and… More >

Recycling of Spent CuCrZr Powder by Laser Powder Bed Fusion: Microstructure Evolution and Properties

    Lizheng Zhang1,2, Jimin Chen1,2,*, Yong Zeng1,2,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011127

Abstract In laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), the unmelted powder recovered from the powder bed is degraded due to particle-laser interaction during continuous processing. The sensitivity of LPBF performance and molding quality to powder properties, waste powder is usually discarded after several molding cycles, which increases the cost of raw materials. At the same time, the low laser absorption rate and high thermal conductivity of copper and copper alloys inhibit the complete melting of copper powder prepared by LPBF. Therefore, it is challenging to fabricate copper alloy components with full high density and high conductivity through… More >

Reduction Discoloration of Reactive Dyed Cotton Waste and Chemical Recycling via Ionic Liquid

Aline Ferreira Knihs, Larissa Klen Aragão, Miguel Angelo Granato, Andrea Cristiane Krause Bierhalz*, Rita de Cassia Siqueira Curto Valle

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.9, pp. 1557-1571, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2024.052963 - 25 September 2024

Abstract The textile industry generates large volumes of waste throughout its production process. Most of this waste is colored, therefore, discoloration is an important step toward recycling and reusing this waste. This study focused on the chemical reductive discoloration of textile waste composed of cotton dyed with reactive dye. The experimental design demonstrated the significant influence of the concentration of reducing agent and time of reaction on the degree of whiteness of the cotton fibers. The concentration of the alkaline agent was not significant in the process. The optimization of the reaction conditions lead to Berger… More > Graphic Abstract

Enhancing the Decomposition of Paper Cups Using Galleria Mellonella and Eisenia Fetida

    Shadi Moqbel1,*, Habib Al-Ghoul2, Abd Al-Majeed Al-Ghzawi3, Rami Mukbel4

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.2, pp. 349-367, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.046369 - 11 March 2024

Abstract The composition of paper cups creates a challenge for the recycling industry, as the paperboard–plastic film composite is hard to separate. Therefore, paper cups are sent to landfills or waste incinerators. This study explores the combined use of red worms (Eisenia fetida) and Greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella) in the biodegradation of paper cups. The study investigates the conditions and combinations that promote using Eisenia fetida and Galleria mellonella for degrading paper cups. The study considered the influence of environmental temperature, the presence of food waste, varying the number of Eisenia fetida worms, and the… More > Graphic Abstract

A Circular Economy Use of Post-Consumer Polypropylene Packaging for Low Thermal Conductive and Fire-Retardant Building Material Applications

    Jakkid Sanetuntikul1, Borwon Narupai2, Nawadon Petchwattana3,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.9, pp. 3567-3582, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.029308 - 20 July 2023

Abstract Wastes from polypropylene (PP) packages are accumulating every year because it is one of the most widely consumed and short lifecycle products. This paper aims to develop low thermal conductive and fire-retardant materials from post-consumer PP (pPP) packages. Ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and hollow glass microsphere (HGM) were further added to improve the fire retardancy and thermal conductivity of pPP. The influence of APP and HGM on the mechanical and thermal properties, fire retardancy and thermal conductivity of pPP were investigated and compared with that of virgin PP (vPP). HGM was constantly added at 5 wt%… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract The super-fine particle size of tailings is its drawback as a recycled resource, which is reflected in the low strength of the new construction and industrial materials formed when it is mixed with cement and other cementitious materials. Therefore, it is crucial to study the effect of tailings particle size and cementitious material on the strength of tailings wet shotcrete (TWSC) and to investigate the optimal mix proportion. In this paper, a multivariate nonlinear response model was constructed by conducting central composite experiments to investigate the effect of different factors on the strength of TWSC.… More >

Abstract Recent years have witnessed an increase in the quantity of waste glass (WG) across the globe. Replacing the fine aggregate with WG is one of the steps toward preserving the natural resources of the environment and creating low-cost concrete. The present study is concerned with replacing fine aggregates with glass powder (GP) at (0%, 15%, 30%, and 50%). It has studied the fresh and hardened properties (compressive strength, tensile strength, hardened density, and slump) for all the mentioned percent replacements. The findings have shown that all mixtures containing GP gave acceptable slump results within the More >
