Energy Management Control Strategy for Renewable Energy System Based on Spotted Hyena Optimizer

    Hegazy Rezk1,2,*, Ahmed Fathy3,4, Mokhtar Aly5,6, Mohamed N. Ibrahim7,8,9

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.2, pp. 2271-2281, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014590

Abstract Hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and other pollutants from the transportation sector harm human health in many ways. Fuel cell (FC) has been evolving rapidly over the past two decades due to its efficient mechanism to transform the chemical energy in hydrogen-rich compounds into electrical energy. The main drawback of the standalone FC is its slow dynamic response and its inability to supply rapid variations in the load demand. Therefore, adding energy storage systems is necessary. However, to manage and distribute the power-sharing among the hybrid proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell (FC), battery storage (BS), and supercapacitor (SC), an energy management… More >

A Novel Single Switch High Gain DC-DC Converter Topology for Renewable Energy Systems

    G. Indira Kishore1, M. Premkumar1,*, Ramesh Kumar Tripathi2, Chandra Sekhar Nalamati2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.2, pp. 199-209, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014079

Abstract Renewable energy with sources such as photovoltaic (PV) or fuel cells can be utilized for the generation of electrical power. But these sources generate fewer voltage values and therefore require high gain converters to match with DC bus voltage in microgrids. These high gain converters can be implemented with switched capacitors to meet the required DC bus voltage. Switched capacitors operate in a series and parallel combination during switching operation and produce high static gain, limits reverse voltage that appears across the components. A novel converter is proposed that satisfies all the features such as high voltage gain, only one… More >

A Novel Polymorphic Topology with Hybrid Control Strategy Based LLC Resonant Converter for Ultra-Wide Input Voltage Range Applications

Chi Zhang, Yong Shi*, Xuwei Gui

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.2, pp. 341-361, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014229

Abstract To realize effective utilization of renewable energy sources, a novel polymorphic topology with hybrid control strategy based LLC resonant converter was analyzed and designed in this paper. By combining the merits of a full bridge LLC resonant converter, three-level half bridge LLC resonant converter, and variable frequency control mode, the converter realizes an intelligent estimation of input voltage by automatically changing its internal circuit topology. Under this control strategy, different input voltages determine different operation modes. This is achieved in full bridge LLC mode when the input voltage is low. If the input voltage rises to a certain level, it… More >

Demand Responsive Market Decision-Makings and Electricity Pricing Scheme Design in Low-Carbon Energy System Environment

    Hongming Yang1,*, Qian Yu1, Xiao Huang1, Ben Niu2, Min Qi3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.2, pp. 285-301, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.013734

Abstract The two-way interaction between smart grid and customers will continuously play an important role in enhancing the overall efficiency of the green and low-carbon electric power industry and properly accommodating intermittent renewable energy resources. Thus far, the existing electricity pricing mechanisms hardly match the technical properties of smart grid; neither can they facilitate increasing end users participating in the electricity market. In this paper, several relevant models and novel methods are proposed for pricing scheme design as well as to achieve optimal decision-makings for market participants, in which the mechanisms behind are compatible with demand response operation of end users… More >

Research on Distribution Network Full Cost-Benefit Optimization Considering Different Renewable Energy Penetration

    Tanzhong Fu1,2,3, Yu Xue1,*, Tancai Xia1, Wang Jing1, De Gejirifu1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.6, pp. 397-411, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.011633

Abstract To further study the impact of renewable energy penetration on the technical transformation of distribution networks. Based on the output power characteristics of wind power and photovoltaics, a renewable energy grid-connected capacity model and a distribution network full cost-benefit model were constructed. Based on this, to maximize the comprehensive income of the distribution network and the renewable energy penetration rate, to establish the technical reform optimization model and search for the optimal solution through the improved NSGA-II algorithm. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed model was verified by setting up three scenarios of simultaneous wind power, grid-connected wind power, grid-connected… More >

Wind Farm-Battery Energy Storage Assessment in Grid-Connected Microgrids

    Shafiqur Rehman1, Umar T. Salman2,*, Luai M. Alhems1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.6, pp. 343-365, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.011471

Abstract Renewable energy has received much attention in the last few decades and more investment is being attracted across the world to boost its contribution towards the existing energy mix. In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), many studies have been conducted on the potential of renewable energy sources (RES), such as wind, solar, and geothermal. Many of these studies have revealed that the Kingdom is blessed with an abundance of RES with wind energy being the best after solar. This paper presents an analysis of windfarm distributed generation (WFDG) for energy management strategy in the Eastern Province of KSA. The… More >

Energy Efficient Resource Allocation Approach for Renewable Energy Powered Heterogeneous Cellular Networks

    Yifei Wei1, *, Yu Gong1, Qiao Li1, Mei Song1, *, Xiaojun Wang2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.64, No.1, pp. 501-514, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.010048

Abstract In this paper, maximizing energy efficiency (EE) through radio resource allocation for renewable energy powered heterogeneous cellular networks (HetNet) with energy sharing, is investigated. Our goal is to maximize the network EE, conquer the instability of renewable energy sources and guarantee the fairness of users during allocating resources. We define the objective function as a sum weighted EE of all links in the HetNet. We formulate the resource allocation problem in terms of subcarrier assignment, power allocation and energy sharing, as a mixed combinatorial and non-convex optimization problem. We propose an energy efficient resource allocation scheme, including a centralized resource… More >

Performance and Cost Analysis of Energy Production from Offshore Wind Turbines

    Haytham Ayoub, Ehab Hussein Bani-Hani*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.1, pp. 41-47, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.010412

Abstract Offshore wind turbine is analyzed theoretically and experimentally for improving wind energy harvesting. The energy produced is calculated at different wind speeds. The wind speed curve is generated by measuring the wind speed on daily base for one year. Curves that show the power extraction for experimental study and from the theoretical calculations are generated. The energy production investigation is expanded over a period of 15 years after comparing the annual energy production in theory and practice. The study shows the cost of electricity over the same time period assuming different interest rates. Three time intervals are shown that are… More >
