    Histocytological examination on organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis of HBsAg-transgenic cherry tomato mutant

    Abstract The initiation and development of organogenic buds and somatic embryos in HBsAg-transgenic cherry tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum var. cerasiforme) mutant were studied histologically. The leaf explants of the mutant were cultured on Murashige & Skoog (MS) basal medium supplemented with 6-BA 1.0 mg/L and IAA 0.05 mg/L for callus induction. Histological studies on the leaf explants of the mutant at various developmental stages revealed that organogenic buds first appeared in the axillary position of explants on the 14th cultured day, and then somatic embryos formed in the same mutant explants after 35 days of culture.     Abstract Various studies have shown the symbiotic association of Azospirillum brasilense with different grasses of nutritional importance. A high variability among the isolated strains has been observed. This is consistent with the genetic diversity that Azospirillum has shown in sugarcane isolates. However, if this is also the case in maize and sorghum isolates is unknown.     Abstract Secreted arginases from Evernia prunastri and Xanthoria parietina thalli, exhibiting lectin activity, have been purified to homogeneity. Analyses of both amino acid and glycoside composition are reported. Purified proteins have been subjected to tryptic digestion and some amino acid sequences have been analyzed. An undecapeptide from Evernia arginase, which shows some degree of homology with the domain to which Mn2+ binds, a heptapeptide and an undecapeptide from Xanthoria arginase have been analyzed, and homologies with some arginases from other fungi and plants have been found.     Abstract Karwinskia parvifolia (Kp) and Karwinskia humboldtiana (Kh) are poisonous plants of the rhamnacea family. Toxicological and clinical studies performed with one of the compounds present in the fruit [peroxisomicine A1 (PA1)] suggest its possible pharmacological usefulness in the treatment of certain types of cancer.     Abstract In this paper, some remarks for more efficient analysis of two-dimensional elastostatic problems using the method of fundamental solutions are made. First, the effects of the distance between pseudo and main boundaries on the solution are investigated and by a numerical study a lower bound for the distance of each source point to the main boundary is suggested.     Abstract Tyrosine hydroxylase and tryptophan hydroxylase are key rate limiting enzymes in the biosynthesis of dopamine and serotonin, respectively. Since both enzymes are active in striatum, and affected by age, this study was undertaken to investigate interaction between dopamine and serotonin synthesis in brain striatal synaptosomes of aging rat.
