    WEI WANG1,#, YANRONG PEI2,#, SHUI-HUA WANG1, JUAN MANUEL GORRZ3, YU-DONG ZHANG1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 373-384, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.025905

Abstract Since 2019, the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) has been spreading rapidly worldwide, posing an unignorable threat to the global economy and human health. It is a disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, a single-stranded RNA virus of the genus Betacoronavirus. This virus is highly infectious and relies on its angiotensin-converting enzyme 2-receptor to enter cells. With the increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 diagnoses, the difficulty of diagnosis due to the lack of global healthcare resources becomes increasingly apparent. Deep learning-based computer-aided diagnosis models with high generalisability can effectively alleviate this pressure. Hyperparameter tuning is essential in… More >

Abstract The past decade has seen the rapid development of data in many areas. Data has enormous commercial potential as a new strategic resource that may efficiently boost technical growth and service innovation. However, individuals are becoming increasingly concerned about data misuse and leaks. To address these issues, in this paper, we propose TrustControl, a trusted data usage control system to control, process, and protect data usage without revealing privacy. A trusted execution environment (TEE) is exploited to process confidential user data. First of all, we design a secure and reliable remote attestation mechanism for ARM TrustZone, which can verify the… More >

Improved STCA Model for Multi-Lane Using Driving Guidance under CVIS

    Xun Li1, Wenzhe Ma1,*, Zhengfan Zhao2, Muhammad Bashir1, Wenjie Wang1, Xiaohua Wang1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.133, No.1, pp. 67-92, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020019

Abstract In a multi-lane area, the increasing randomness of lane changes contributes to traffic insecurity and local traffic flow instability. A study on safe lane shifting activity that focuses on threat assessment under real-time knowledge is necessary to enhance smooth vehicle flow. This paper proposed a more comprehensive lane changing guidance rule to investigate the status of surrounding vehicles to accommodate future vehicle-on-road collaborative environments based on these parameters 1) lane change demand and 2) treat assessment function. The collaborative relationships between vehicles are analyzed using a cellular automata model based on their location, velocity, and acceleration. We analyze and examine… More >

A Complete Analysis of Clarity (C50) Using I-SIMPA to Maintain Ideal Conditions in an Acoustic Chamber

    R. Adithya Pillai1, S. Sakthivel Murugan2,*, Guruprasad Gupta1

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.56, No.1, pp. 51-64, 2022, DOI:10.32604/sv.2022.012085

Abstract In any closed environment considered, it can be seen that the acoustic parameters are inherently not constant over the entire area considered. In a closed environment, it is ideally preferred to maintain the acoustic parameters as constant so that there exists better quality of sound leading to better auditory perception with respect to the audience. Practically, some of the acoustic parameters like reverberation time and clarity do not strictly pertain to the pattern obtained theoretically. In this paper, simulations are carried out using I-SIMPA under different values of Sound Transmission Class (STC), source position, distribution and the chamber dimensions and… More >

Utility of a standardized postcardiopulmonary bypass epicardial echocardiography protocol for stage I Norwood palliation

    Kenan W.D. Stern1,2, Kimberlee Gauvreau1,2, Sitaram Emani3,4, Tal Geva1,2

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.12, No.3, pp. 350-356, 2017, DOI:10.1111/chd.12450

Abstract Objective: Stage 1 Norwood palliation is one of the highest risk procedures in congenital cardiac surgery. Patients with superior technical performance scores have more favorable outcomes. Intraoperative epicardial echocardiography may allow the surgeon to address residual lesions prior to leaving the operating room, resulting in improved technical performance. The ability of intraoperative epicardial echocardiography to visualize the relevant anatomy and its association with outcomes is not known.
Design: A standardized intraoperative epicardial echocardiography protocol was developed and performed at the conclusion of Stage 1 Norwood palliation. Data pertaining to visualization of relevant anatomy, and comparison of intraoperative echocardiogram findings with… More >

Spontaneous running wheel improves neuroprotection efficacy of ischemic postconditioning in mice following ischemia/reperfusion injury

    Hong YE1,6,#, WeiWei Wang2,#, Yu Ding3,#, XiaoLei Liu4,#, WenJI Jia1, WeiLi Luo1, HuiJuan Fan1, HongQun Zhou1, Jin Wang1, JianLong Ju1, DongMing Zhou7, TianHao Bao5,1,*, YuHong Zhu1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.42, No.3, pp. 79-86, 2018, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2018.04615

Abstract Ischemic postconditioning (IP) has been shown to provide protection for ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury, but its efficacy is limited. In this study we hypothesized that spontaneous running wheel (RW) could improve neuroprotection efficacy of IP for IR. We established mouse models of IR and showed that compared to Sham group, IR group had obvious brain infract and neurological dysfunction. In IR+IP group, brain infract and neurological dysfunction improved compared to IR group. However, in IR+IP+RW group brain infract and neurological dysfunction improved much better. TUNEL assay showed that IP but not RW significantly reduced the number of apoptotic cells after IR.… More >

Effect of Dextran 500 on Radial Migration of Erythrocytes in Postcapillary Venules at Low Flow Rates

Sangho Kim∗,†, Peng Kai Ong*, Paul C. Johnson

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.6, No.2, pp. 83-92, 2009, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2009.006.083

Abstract Recently, we reported that collision efficiency (fraction of total collisions that result in the formation of aggregates) between red blood cells was an important factor in the formation of aggregates in postcapillary venules. In the present study, we focus on how high molecular weight dextran influences the overall radial migration trend of red blood cells in the postcapillary venule along a longitudinal distance of 50 μm from the bifurcation which would in turn affect collision behavior of these cells. A radial migration index, which defines the extent of radial migration of individual cells relative to the vessel center, was found… More >

On Solving the Ill-Conditioned System Ax=b: General-Purpose Conditioners Obtained From the Boundary-Collocation Solution of the Laplace Equation, Using Trefftz Expansions With Multiple Length Scales

    Chein-Shan Liu1, Weichung Yeih2, Satya N. Atluri3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.44, No.3, pp. 281-312, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2009.044.281

Abstract Here we develop a general purpose pre/post conditionerT, to solve an ill-posed system of linear equations,Ax=b. The conditionerTis obtained in the course of the solution of the Laplace equation, through a boundary-collocation Trefftz method, leading to:Ty=x, whereyis the vector of coefficients in the Trefftz expansion, andxis the boundary data at the discrete points on a unit circle. We show that the quality of the conditionerTis greatly enhanced by using multiple characteristic lengths (Multiple Length Scales) in the Trefftz expansion. We further show thatTcan be multiplicatively decomposed into a dilationTDand a rotationTR. For an odd-orderedA, we develop four conditioners based on… More >
