    Zhiguo Qu1,*, Shengyao Wu2, Wenjie Liu1, Xiaojun Wang3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.59, No.2, pp. 607-624, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.02656

Abstract In the field of quantum communication, quantum steganography is an important branch of quantum information hiding. In a realistic quantum communication system, quantum noises are unavoidable and will seriously impact the safety and reliability of the quantum steganographic system. Therefore, it is very important to analyze the influence of noise on the quantum steganography protocol and how to reduce the effect of noise. This paper takes the quantum steganography protocol proposed in 2010 as an example to analyze the effects of noises on information qubits and secret message qubits in the four primary quantum noise environments. The results show that… More >

    Yunfa Zhang1, Zihui Xia1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.2, No.3, pp. 213-226, 2005, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2005.002.213

Abstract In the present study, the initiation and evolution of the interphase damage and their influences on the global stress-strain relation of composite laminates are predicted by finite element analysis on a micromechanical unit cell model. A thin layer of interphase elements is introduced and its stress-strain relation is derived based on a cohesive law which describes both normal and tangential separations at the interface between the fiber and matrix. In addition, a viscous term is added to the cohesive law to overcome the convergence difficulty induced by the so-called snap-back instability in the numerical analysis. The matrix behavior is described… More >

The method of fundamental solutions for eigenproblems with Laplace and biharmonic operators

    S.Yu. Reutskiy1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.2, No.3, pp. 177-188, 2005, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2005.002.177

Abstract In this paper a new meshless method for eigenproblems with Laplace and biharmonic operators in simply and multiply connected domains is presented. The solution of an eigenvalue problem is reduced to a sequence of inhomogeneous problems with the differential operator studied. These problems are solved using the method of fundamental solutions. The method presented shows a high precision in simply and multiply connected domains. The results of the numerical experiments justifying the method are presented. More >

    Jiayong Tian1,2, Ulrich Gabbert2, Harald Berger2, Xianyue Su1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.1, No.4, pp. 327-336, 2004, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2004.001.327

Abstract In this paper, we investigate Lamb wave interaction with delamination in an infinite carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) laminate by a hybrid method. The infinite CFRP laminate is divided into an exterior zone and an interior zone. In the exterior zone, the wave fields are expressed by wave mode expansion. In the interior zone, the wave fields are modeled by the finite element method (FEM). Considering the continuity condition at the boundary between the exterior and interior zones, the global wave fields can be calculated. Lastly, numerical examples show how a delamination in the laminate influences the mode conversion of… More >

    Kunigal N.Shivakumar1, Shivalingappa Lingaiah2, Robert Sadler2, Matthew Sharpe2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.1, No.4, pp. 309-318, 2004, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2004.001.309

Abstract The exfoliation and dispersion of nanoclay (2% by weight) and nanovermiculite (2% by weight) particles in a polymer matrix is analyzed using the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) after a low temperature air plasma etch. The plasma etch preferentially removes the polymer to expose the nanoparticles. Both Argon and air have been used as the etching media to study the etching process. SEM analysis illustrate the results of the etching in flat and edge surfaces of both nanoclay (MMT) and nanovermiculite (VMT) filled polymer. Both the MMT and VMT were dispersed using a IKA high shear mixer and a Sonicator. More >

Stress Concentrations Caused by Embedded Optical Fiber Sensors in Composite Laminates

    Kunigal Shivakumar1, Anil Bhargava2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.1, No.2, pp. 173-190, 2004, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2004.001.173

Abstract The fiber optic sensor (FOS) embedded perpendicular to reinforcing fibers causes an `Eye' shaped defect. The length is about 16 times fiber optic radius (RFos) and height is about 2RFos. The eye contains fiber optics in the center surrounded by an elongated resin pocket. Embedding FOS causes geometric distortion of the reinforcing fiber over a height equal to 6 to 8 RFos. This defect causes severe stress concentration at the root of the resin pocket, the interface (in the composite) between the optical fiber and the composite, and at 90° to load direction in the composite. The stress concentration was… More >

Prediction of the behavior of RC Beams Strengthened with FRP Plates

    Ricardo Perera1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.1, No.2, pp. 153-172, 2004, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2004.001.153

Abstract Epoxy-bonding a composite plate to the tension face is an effective technique to repair reinforced concrete beams since it increases their strength and rigidity. In this paper, the structural behavior of reinforced concrete beams with fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) plates is studied numerically. For it, a numerical damage model is used in order to predict their strength, stiffness and failure modes observed in experimental tests taking into account the influence of different variables such as the amount of steel reinforcement, the type and amount of external reinforcement, the plate length, etc. The consideration of concrete cracking and the yielding of… More >

An Assumed Strain Triangular Solid Element for Efficient Analysis of Plates and Shells with Finite Rotation

    J. H. Kim1, Y. H. Kim 1, S. W. Lee2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.1, No.2, pp. 141-152, 2004, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2004.001.141

Abstract A simple triangular solid shell element formulation is developed for efficient analysis of plates and shells undergoing finite rotations. The kinematics of the present solid shell element formulation is purely vectorial with only three translational degrees of freedom per node. Accordingly, the kinematics of deformation is free of the limitation of small angle increments, and thus the formulation allows large load increments in the analysis of finite rotation. An assumed strain field is carefully selected to alleviate the locking effect without triggering undesirable spurious kinematic modes. In addition, the curved surface of shell structures is modeled with flat facet elements… More >

    B. Kriegesmann1, R. Rolfes1, E. L. Jansen1, I. Elishakoff2, C. Hühne3, A. Kling3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.32, No.3, pp. 177-200, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.032.177

Abstract Four different approaches for the design of axially compressed cylindrical shells are presented, namely (1) the knockdown factor (KDF) concept, (2) the single perturbation load approach, (3) a probabilistic design procedure and (4) the convex anti-optimization approach. The different design approaches take the imperfection sensitivity and the scatter of input parameters into account differently. In this paper, the design of a composite cylinder is optimized considering the ply angles as design variables. The KDF concept provides a very conservative design load and in addition an imperfection sensitive design, whereas the other approaches lead to a significantly less conservative design load… More >

Modelling Mesh Independent Transverse Cracks in Laminated Composites with a Simplified Cohesive Segment Method

    Luiz F. Kawashita1, Alexandre Bedos2, Stephen R. Hallett3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 133-158, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.032.133

Abstract A methodology is proposed for modelling transverse matrix cracks in laminated composites in a three-dimensional explicit finite element analysis framework. The method is based on the introduction of extra degrees of freedom to represent the displacement discontinuity and the use of a cohesive zone model to determine damage evolution and crack propagation. The model is designed for the analysis of matrix cracks in laminates made of uni-directional fibre-reinforced plies, allowing several assumptions to be made which greatly simplify the algorithm. This was implemented in the commercial software Abaqus/Explicit as a user-defined element subroutine (VUEL). The methodology was verified via the… More >
