    Tao Hu1, Cheng Huang2, Sergiy Reutskiy3,*, Jun Lu4, Ji Lin5,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.2, pp. 1521-1548, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.030449

Abstract A novel accurate method is proposed to solve a broad variety of linear and nonlinear (1+1)-dimensional and (2+1)- dimensional multi-term time-fractional partial differential equations with spatial operators of anisotropic diffusivity. For (1+1)-dimensional problems, analytical solutions that satisfy the boundary requirements are derived. Such solutions are numerically calculated using the trigonometric basis approximation for (2+1)-dimensional problems. With the aid of these analytical or numerical approximations, the original problems can be converted into the fractional ordinary differential equations, and solutions to the fractional ordinary differential equations are approximated by modified radial basis functions with time-dependent coefficients. An efficient backward substitution strategy that… More >

Abstract Data size plays a significant role in the design and the performance of data mining models. A good feature selection algorithm reduces the problems of big data size and noise due to data redundancy. Features selection algorithms aim at selecting the best features and eliminating unnecessary ones, which in turn simplifies the structure of the data mining model as well as increases its performance. This paper introduces a robust features selection algorithm, named Features Ranking Voting Algorithm FRV. It merges the benefits of the different features selection algorithms to specify the features ranks in the dataset correctly and robustly; based… More >

    C.T. Kwan, C.C. Wang

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.18, No.1, pp. 1-2, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.018.001

Abstract In this paper, a pre-stress die design method for cold backward extrusion with a non simple hollow cylinder die by using response surface method is proposed. The radius of the interface and the absolute interference in the interface of a prestress die are chosen as the design variables. Both the two design variables are set at four levels, and then 16 combinations of design parameters are constituted totally. A finite element based code is utilized to investigate the elastic deformation characteristic under different design parameters, and the response surface method is then employed to synthesize the data sets obtained from… More >

    Chih-Wen Chang

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.16, No.1, pp. 19-20, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.016.019

Abstract In this study, we propose a new numerical approach for solving the nonhomogeneous backward heat conduction problems (BHCPs). A fictitious time I" is used to transform the dependent variable u(x, t) into a new one by (1+I")u(x, t)=: v(x, t, I"), such that the original nonhomogeneous heat conduction equation is written as a new parabolic type partial differential equation in the space of (x, t, I"). Besides, a fictitious viscous damping coefficient can be employed to strengthen the stability of numerical integration of the discretized equations by utilizing a group preserving scheme. Several numerical instances illustrate that the present algorism… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.14, No.1, pp. 1-22, 2010, DOI:10.3970/icces.2010.014.001

Abstract In this paper, micro-turbine centrifugal impeller with three different blade angles was investigated by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. The other basic geometric parameters are held constant. The influence of the blade angles change on the observed values was determined from numerical solution of the flow in the impeller with help of the FLUENT software. The numerical simulation focused on the air flow from compressor impeller inlet to exit, and the performance of impeller is predicted. The numerical solution was performed for original impeller geometry and for two other cases, in which blade inlet angle and backward sweep was… More >

    Chih-Wen Chang1, Chein-Shan Liu2, Jiang-Ren Chang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.3, No.2, pp. 69-80, 2007, DOI:10.3970/icces.2007.003.069

Abstract By using a quasi-boundary regularization we can formulate a two-point boundary value problem of the backward heat conduction equation. The ill-posed problem is analyzed by using the semi-discretization numerical schemes. Then, the resulting ordinary differential equations in the discretized space are numerically integrated towards the time direction by the Lie-group shooting method to find the unknown initial conditions. The key point is based on the erection of a one-step Lie group element G(T) and the formation of a generalized mid-point Lie group element G(r). Then, by imposing G(T) = G(r) we can seek the missing initial conditions through a minimum… More >

A Novel Spacetime Collocation Meshless Method for Solving Two-Dimensional Backward Heat Conduction Problems

    Chihyu Liu1, Chengyu Ku1,2,*, Jingen Xiao1, Weichung Yeih1,2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.118, No.1, pp. 229-252, 2019, DOI:10.31614/cmes.2019.04376

Abstract In this article, a meshless method using the spacetime collocation for solving the two-dimensional backward heat conduction problem (BHCP) is proposed. The spacetime collocation meshless method (SCMM) is to derive the general solutions as the basis functions for the two-dimensional transient heat equation using the separation of variables. Numerical solutions of the heat conduction problem are expressed as a series using the addition theorem. Because the basis functions are the general solutions of the governing equation, the boundary points may be collocated on the spacetime boundary of the domain. The proposed method is verified by conducting several heat conduction problems.… More >

    Da-guo Wang1,2, Bin Hu1, Qing-xiang Shui1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.107, No.4, pp. 297-320, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2015.107.297

Abstract A numerical large eddy simulation (LES) method combined with the characteristic-based operator-splitting finite element method is proposed. The subgrid eddy viscosity model is used to calculate sub-grid stress in LES. In each time step, the governing equations are split into diffusive and convective parts. The convective part is first discretized by using the characteristic Galerkin method and then solved explicitly. The backward-facing step flow and the flow past a single cylinder are adopted to validate the model. Results agree with existing numerical results or experimental data. The flow past two cylinders in tandem arrangement is also studied at Re =… More >
