Self-Cross-Linked Tannin-Aminated Tannin Surface Coatings for Particleboard

    Bengang Zhang1,*, Antonio Pizzi2,*, Mathieu Petrissans1, Anelie Petrissans1, Colin Baptiste1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.12, pp. 4097-4121, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.029761

Abstract Aminated tannins were prepared by reacting mimosa condensed tannin extract with ammonia yielding the substitution of many, if not all of the tannin hydroxyl groups with –NH2 groups. A tannin-aminated tannin (ATT) particleboard coating was then prepared by reacting raw tannin extract with aminated tannin extract and thus cross-liking the two by substituting tannin’s hydroxyl groups with the –NH2 groups on the aminated tannin to form –NH-bridges between the two. The resulting particleboard coating gave encouraging results when pressed at 180°C for 3 min. Conversely, the system in which tannin was reacted/cross-liked with urea (ATU) by a similar amination reaction… More >

    Demiao Chu1, Redžo Hasanagić2, Leila Fathi3, Mohsen Bahmani3,*, Miha Humar4

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.12, pp. 4061-4078, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.043657

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the water absorption capacity of thermally modified and non-modified spruce and blue-stained spruce wood. The wettability of wood depends on various factors, including its type, density, porosity, and surface treatment. Wood can swell and become distorted when exposed to water or humidity, impacting its structural integrity. Hence, it is crucial to consider the water and water vapour uptake in the wood when choosing materials for applications that are likely to be exposed to moisture. Various moisture absorption tests were conducted to assess water absorption capacity, including short-term and long-term water absorption and water vapour absorption.… More > Graphic Abstract

    Wei Shi1,2, Zhengyi Li1, Xiaobing Xu1, Yingshui Yu1, Xiaofei Ding1, Heng Ju1,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.1, pp. 97-108, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029028

Abstract Two-dimensional carbon/carbon (2D C/C) composites are a special class of carbon/carbon composites, generally obtained by combining resin-impregnated carbon fiber clothes, which are then cured and carbonized. This study deals with the preparation of a protective coating for these materials. This coating, based on graphite, was prepared by the slurry method. The effect of graphite and phenolic resin powders with different weight ratios was examined. The results have shown that the coating slurry can fill the pores and cracks of the composite surface, thereby densifying the surface layer of the material. With the increase of the graphite powder/phenolic resin weight ratio,… More >

    Pan Li1, Xiaochao Jin1, Pin Lv1, Xueling Fan1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.010540

Abstract Refurbishment of thermal barrier coating (TBC) has become a valuable technique to prolong the service life of high-temperature components. In this work, the effect of refurbishment process on the oxidation behaviors of TBC was investigated. Before recoating, the soft chemical stripping method was used to remove TBC from DD6 single-crystal superalloy. The results showed that a certain amount of IDZ layer with Cr-rich would be retained in the DD6 superalloy substrate after coating removal. The characteristics of the β phases change from the elongated grain shapes and a high aspect ratio in the ordinary specimens to the equiaxed shape in… More >

Interfacial Delamination in High-Temperature Coatings with Segmented Microstructures

    Biao Li1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.1, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09818

Abstract High-temperature coatings are extensively used in aircraft engines and industrial gas turbines to protect hot-section components from harsh operating environments [1]. Representative high-temperature coatings include thermal barrier coatings and environmental barrier coatings, which are applied to substrates made of superalloy and ceramic matrix composites, respectively. The durability of the coatings is of significant importance for the structural integrity of the components [2-4]. A segmented microstructure was widely used to improve the coatings' durability. A network of through-thickness vertical cracks is introduced into the outer layer of the coatings, which increases the compliance of the coatings and therefore reduces the interfacial… More >

Abstract A triethylenetetramine epoxy mixture was synthesized through the reaction of a low-molecular-weight liquid epoxy resin with triethylenetetramine (TETA). Then triethyltetramine (TETA) was injected dropwise into a propylene glycol methyl ether (PM) solution for chain extension reaction. A hydrophilic and flexible polyether segment was introduced into the hardener molecule. The effects of TETA/DGEPG, reaction temperature and reaction time on the epoxy conversion of polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (DGEPG) were studied. In addition, several alternate strategies to add epoxy resin to the high-speed dispersion machine and synthesize MEA DGEBA adduct (without catalyst and with bisphenol A diglycidyl ether epoxy resin) were compared.… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.4, pp. 1991-2014, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.023659

Abstract High precision control of substrate tension is the premise and guarantee for producing high-quality products in roll-to-roll precision coating machine. However, the complex relationships in tension system make the problems of decoupling control difficult to be solved, which has limited the improvement of tension control accuracy for the coating machine. Therefore, an ADRC parameters self-tuning decoupling strategy based on RBF neural network is proposed to improve the control accuracy of tension system in this paper. Firstly, a global coupling nonlinear model of the tension system is established according to the composition of the coating machine, and the global coupling model… More > Graphic Abstract
