    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.13, No.2, pp. 59-83, 2017, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2017.013.059

Abstract This article reports a numerical study of nanoparticle Brownian motion and magnetic field effects by natural convection in a nanofluid-filled open cavity with non uniform boundary condition. Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) is used to simulate nanofluid flow and heat transfer. The effective thermal conductivity and viscosity of nanofluid are calculated by KKL (Koo-Kleinstreuer-Li) correlation. In this model effect of Brownian motion on the effective thermal conductivity and effective viscosity is considered and examined. Simulations have been carried out for the pertinent parameters in the following ranges: Rayleigh number (Ra=103−106), Hartmann number (Ha=0-60), nanoparticle volume concentration (Φ=0–0.04) and heat generation or… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.13, No.1, pp. 19-36, 2017, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2017.013.019

Abstract A two-dimensional numerical model that accounts for heat transfer by conduction and natural convection in the molten region of nano enhanced Phase Change Material (PCM) is performed. Numerical investigations were conducted using an enthalpy- porosity method in order to examine the impact of the dispersion of copper (CuO) nanoparticles on the heat source temperature and the effect on the heat sink secured working time and the melting rate. Results show that heat spreads more easily along the conducting plate and to the PCM and, consequently, the PCM melts rapidly and the heat source is efficiency cooled by the addition of… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.13, No.1, pp. 1-17, 2017, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2017.013.001

Abstract A three-dimensional time-dependent numerical study of the flow instabilities in a simulated Czochralski system is conducted. The comparison with previously published experimental results is reported. The simulations were performed using a refined grid in order to investigate flow instabilities in the crucible. Simulations have been carried out for various crystal rotational speeds, by taking into account the effects of Rayleigh and Marangoni numbers. The temperature fluctuations near the crystal/liquid interface are analyzed. The method used for that purpose is the Fast Fourier Transform with the corresponding spectra. From numerical simulations, it has been observed that for rotational speeds of the… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.12, No.4, pp. 173-192, 2016, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2016.012.173

Abstract This paper outlines the findings in the comparison of the influence of mechanical and electromagnetic stirring on ingot long term purity and uniformity during Ohno Continuous Casting. The magnitude of the average optimum velocity flow field and stirring parameters required to effectively purify aluminum ingots using mechanical stirring of the melt was determined and analyzed. Basing on the determined optimum mechanical flow field, electromagnetic parameters producing almost the same flow field near the interface were obtained through careful adjustments of parameters. Optimum parameters of the mechanical and electromagnetic stirring were obtained by numerically solving the solidification model coupled with either… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.12, No.2, pp. 56-68, 2016, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2016.012.056

Abstract A numerical study of mixed convection from a U-shaped channel is carried out. The flow is considered two dimensionnel. The inlet opening is adjusted in the right vertical part of the channel, while the outlet one is placed on the left vertical part. Navier–Stokes equations are solved using a control volume method and the SIMPLEC algorithm is considered for the treatment of pressure–velocity coupling. Special emphasis is given to detail the effect of the Reynolds and Rayleigh numbers on the heat transfer generated by mixed convection. The results are given for the parameters of control as, Rayleigh number (5.103≤Ra≤107), Prandtl… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 33-55, 2016, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2016.012.033

Abstract A finite volume code used for detailed analysis of forced-convection flow in a horizontal channel containing eight heat sources simulating electronic components. The study deals the effect of variations of Reynolds number, the volume fraction and the good choice of type of nanoparticles added to the base fluid. The study shows that the rate of heat transfer increases with increasing Reynolds number and the volume fraction of nanofluids but not infinitely. The analysis of the dynamic and thermal field shows that the heat transfer is improved, with the increase in the Reynolds number and the volume fraction. The study also… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 1-14, 2016, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2016.012.001

Abstract A numerical study of natural convection in a square cavity subjected to the thermals boundary conditions on the sidewalls is presented and discussed. The fluid is Newtonian and equations governing the flow field and the heat transfer are given in dimensionless form. The finite volume method was adopted to solve the algebraic system. Influence of the Prandtl and the Rayleigh numbers on heat transfer and the flow field is illustrated and discussed as the stream functions, isotherms, horizontal velocity, local and average Nusselt numbers. Results indicate that improved heat transfer is more pronounced with increasing Rayleigh number. In particular, at… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.11, No.4, pp. 354-365, 2015, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2015.011.354

Abstract This study is based on the modeling of the air flow in the hall building including heating and air-conditioning systems. The building contains two converter stations “valves” considered as heat sources. Heat transfer in the hall is numerically simulated using the standard k-ε model of turbulence. For a very hot weather, this study aims to evaluate the local temperatures in the ambient air of the hall, with assuming running valves and air conditioning device in open loop with a 35°C inlet temperature. The study has shown that the air conditioning is efficient enough to maintain low level of temperature disparity.… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 279-300, 2015, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2015.011.279

Abstract The present paper deals with a numerical study of natural convection in a square cavity filled with a nanofluid. The left and right vertical walls of the cavity are maintained at a local temperature Th (heat source) and a local cold temperature TC, respectively. Horizontal walls are assumed to be adiabatic. The governing equations are discretized by using the finite volume method and solved by the SIMPLER algorithm. Our computer fortran code is validated through comparison with numerical results found in the literature. Results are presented in terms of streamlines, isotherms, local and average Nusselt numbers for the Rayleigh number… More >
