Case Report: Prominent Coronary Artery Flow in Fetuses with Congenital Heart Disease, Is It a Marker of In Utero Distress?

    Mohamed Aashiq Abdul Ghayum1,*, Maria Kiaffas1,2, Ashley Warta1, Melanie Kathol1, David C. Mundy2, Kelsey Brattrud1, Nitin Madan1,2

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.19, No.6, pp. 647-651, 2024, DOI:10.32604/chd.2025.058271 - 27 January 2025

Abstract Prominent coronary artery (CA) flow observed on a fetal echocardiogram has been associated with fetal growth restriction and myocardial dysfunction. We present two cases with this finding, in the presence of congenital heart disease (CHD) and absence of growth restriction or myocardial dysfunction. Both the cases rapidly progressed to extremis, necessitating emergent delivery. Our cases highlight the importance of recognizing prominent CA flow in fetuses with CHD as a potential marker for in utero distress. More >

Abstract The aorto-ventricular tunnel is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly. We present a case of aorto-ventricular tunnel diagnosed via fetal echocardiography. Emergency surgery was performed on the 2nd day of life to close the tunnel, located just in front of the right coronary ostium, due to the patient’s unstable health condition. The postoperative period revealed complete occlusion of the right coronary artery. Due to the patient’s stability, we opted not to reintervene on the right coronary artery. The patient fully recovered without the need for further coronary intervention. In cases of patients with an aorto-ventricular tunnel More >

A Robust Tuned Random Forest Classifier Using Randomized Grid Search to Predict Coronary Artery Diseases

    Sameh Abd El-Ghany1,2, A. A. Abd El-Aziz1,3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.2, pp. 4633-4648, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.035779 - 31 March 2023

Abstract Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the most authentic cardiovascular afflictions because it is an uncommonly overwhelming heart issue. The breakdown of coronary cardiovascular disease is one of the principal sources of death all over the world. Cardiovascular deterioration is a challenge, especially in youthful and rural countries where there is an absence of human-trained professionals. Since heart diseases happen without apparent signs, high-level detection is desirable. This paper proposed a robust and tuned random forest model using the randomized grid search technique to predict CAD. The proposed framework increases the ability of CAD… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.1, pp. 241-255, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.019644 - 05 January 2023

Abstract Coronary artery disease (CAD) has become a significant cause of heart attack, especially among those 40 years old or younger. There is a need to develop new technologies and methods to deal with this disease. Many researchers have proposed image processing-based solutions for CAD diagnosis, but achieving highly accurate results for angiogram segmentation is still a challenge. Several different types of angiograms are adopted for CAD diagnosis. This paper proposes an approach for image segmentation using Convolution Neural Networks (CNN) for diagnosing coronary artery disease to achieve state-of-the-art results. We have collected the 2D X-ray… More >

A Rare Case of Transcatheter Closure of Both Inlet and Outlet of a Left Coronary Artery-to-Left Ventricular Fistula with Giant Coronary Artery Aneurysm

    Yifan Li1, Zewen Chen2, Jian Zhuang2, Zhiwei Zhang1,*

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.17, No.5, pp. 541-549, 2022, DOI:10.32604/chd.2022.024907 - 06 September 2022

Abstract A congenital coronary artery fistula (CCAF) combined with giant coronary aneurysm (CAA) is a rare congenital cardiac abnormality. We reported an 8-year-old patient who underwent transcatheter closure of both inlet and outlet of a proximal left coronary artery (LCA)-to-left ventricular (LV) fistula with CAA of 41 mm × 28 mm in diameter, during which acute occlusion of left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) occurred immediately after device implantation at the inlet of fistula. We managed to prevent the patient from major adverse cardiac events by conservative therapy with dual antiplatelet agents instead of surgical removal More > Graphic Abstract

Transfer Learning for Disease Diagnosis from Myocardial Perfusion SPECT Imaging

Phung Nhu Hai1, Nguyen Chi Thanh1,*, Nguyen Thanh Trung2, Tran Trung Kien1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.3, pp. 5925-5941, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.031027 - 28 July 2022

Abstract Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the most common pathological conditions and the major global cause of death. Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) using single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is a non-invasive method and plays an essential role in diagnosing CAD. However, there is currently a shortage of doctors who can diagnose using SPECT-MPI in developing countries, especially Vietnam. Research on deploying machine learning and deep learning in supporting CAD diagnosis has been noticed for a long time. However, these methods require a large dataset and are therefore time-consuming and labor-intensive. This study aims to… More >
