Mass-Stiffness Templates for Cubic Structural Elements

    Carlos A. Felippa*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.129, No.3, pp. 1209-1241, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.016803

Abstract This paper considers Lagrangian finite elements for structural dynamics constructed with cubic displacement shape functions. The method of templates is used to investigate the construction of accurate mass-stiffness pairs. This method introduces free parameters that can be adjusted to customize elements according to accuracy and rank-sufficiency criteria. One- and two-dimensional Lagrangian cubic elements with only translational degrees of freedom (DOF) carry two additional nodes on each side, herein called side nodes or SN. Although usually placed at the third-points, the SN location may be adjusted within geometric limits. The adjustment effect is studied in detail using symbolic computations for a… More >

    CÜNEYT UÇARLI*

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.6, pp. 1673-1685, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.016316

Abstract RAV (Related to ABI3/VP1) transcription factors are unique members of the AP2-ERF superfamily with AP2 and B3 domains and play important roles in the regulation of seed germination, plant growth, and stress response. In the study, 7 RAV genes, named HvRAVs, were identified in barley based on the available genome sequences. While five of the seven HvRAVs were located on chromosome 3, HvRAV5 and HvRAV7 were located on chromosome 1 and 4, respectively. Six of the predicted HvRAVs were intron-less, except HvRAV2, which had one intron. HvRAV proteins have shown basic, instable, and hydrophilic properties. The AP2 domain specific RAYD… More >

    Huifeng Yang1,*, Junfeng Ji1, Haotian Tao2, Benkai Shi1, Junbin Hu1, Bo Wen3

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.1, pp. 105-117, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.016118

Abstract Experimental investigation on the pull-out behaviour, including the withdrawal capacity, slip stiffness and interfacial shear stress, of axially loaded screwed-in threaded rod embedded in cross laminated timber (CLT) was conducted. Specimens with varying embedment length and different number of threaded rods were tested in this study. To prevent premature splitting failure of timber, some specimens were reinforced in the direction perpendicular to the timber grain with self-tapping screws. Test results showed that the screwed-in threaded rod connections exhibited good pull-out behaviour with high withdrawal capacity and slip stiffness. Within a certain range, the withdrawal capacity increases considerably with the increase… More > Graphic Abstract

Villin Family Members Associated with Multiple Stress Responses in Cotton

    Fenni Lv1,2,#, Sen Wang3,#, Ruiping Tian1, Peng Wang2, Kang Liu1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.6, pp. 1645-1660, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.016947

Abstract Villin (VLN) is considered to be one of the most important actin-binding proteins, participates in modulating the actin cytoskeleton dynamics, plays essential role in plant development and resisting adverse environments. However, systematic studies of the VLN gene family have not been reported in cotton (Gossypium). In this study, 14 GhVLNs were identified in G. hirsutum. These GhVLN genes were distributed in 6 A-subgenome chromosomes and 6 D-subgenome chromosomes of the allotetraploid upland cotton and classified into three phylogenetical groups based on the classification model of AtVLNs. In addition, the 14 GhVLN genes have highly conserved gene structure and motif architecture.… More >

Basic concepts and numerical integration issues in the 2D boundary element implementation of strain gradient elasticity problems

    Ney Augusto Dumont

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.23, No.1, pp. 2-2, 2021, DOI:10.32604/icces.2021.08187

Abstract The mathematical modeling of microdevices, in which structure and microstructure have approximately the same scale of magnitude, as well as of macrostructures of markedly granular or crystal nature (microcomposites), demands a nonlocal approach for strains and stresses. The present proposition is based on a simplified strain gradient theory laid down by Aifantis, which has also been applied mainly by Beskos and collaborators in the context of the boundary element method. This paper is an extension of a presentation made during the ICCES 2014 Conference in Crete, Greece, now relying on machine-precision evaluation of all singular and hypersingular integrals required in… More >

Scavenging Effects of Kaolin on Fine Ash Formation during Zhundong Coal Combustion

    Fangqi Liu1, Xianpeng Zeng1,2, Yimin Xia1, Zihao Wang1, Dunxi Yu1,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.3, pp. 459-471, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014240

Abstract The previous work found that the additive kaolin could scavenge not only sodium (Na) but also calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg), which is the important ash fluxing agents in low rank coal combustion. Such scavenging effects of kaolin on fine ash formation were studied in the present work. A typical Zhundong coal and its blends with kaolin at dosages of 1, 2 and 4 wt% were combusted in an electrically heated drop tube furnace (DTF) at 1300°C. The fine ashes generated were collected and size segregated by a low pressure impactor (LPI). The morphology and chemical composition of fine ash… More >
