    Ziguang Song1,2, Jiangbo Yu1, Mengmeng Wang3, Weitao Shen4, Chengcheng Wang1, Tianyi Lu1, Gaojun Shan1, Guo Dong1, Yiru Wang1, Jiyi Zhao1,*

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 693-701, 2023, DOI:10.32604/chd.2024.048081

Abstract CHDTEPDB (URL: ) is a manually integrated database for congenital heart disease (CHD) that stores the expression profiling data of CHD derived from published papers, aiming to provide rich resources for investigating a deeper correlation between human CHD and aberrant transcriptome expression. The development of human diseases involves important regulatory roles of RNAs, and expression profiling data can reflect the underlying etiology of inherited diseases. Hence, collecting and compiling expression profiling data is of critical significance for a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms and functions that underpin genetic diseases. CHDTEPDB stores the expression profiles of over 200 sets of 7… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.7, pp. 1645-1650, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.029493

Abstract Background: This work aimed to reveal the expression profiles of tRNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs) in diabetes. Methods: Thirty-five diabetes patients and thirty-three controls were enrolled. The serum samples of 4 diabetes patients and 4 controls were subjected to tRF and tiRNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) Array analysis. Then quantitative PCR (qPCR) validation was performed on all the samples. Bioinformatics analyses were conducted to explore their functions. Results: We found 115 tsRNAs that significantly differed between the two groups. 3′tiR-080-ProTGG(mt) was selected for further qPCR validation in all participants, and it was significantly decreased in diabetes patients compared with controls. Abstract Fatty Acyl-ACP thioesterase (FAT) is a key enzyme controlling oil biosynthesis in plant seeds. FATs can be divided into two subfamilies, FATA and FATB according to their amino acid sequences and substrate specificity. The Upland cotton genome contains 20 GhFAT genes, amongst which 6 genes were of the GhFATA subfamily and 14 of the GhFATB subfamily. The 20 GhFAT genes are unevenly distributed on 14 chromosomes. The GhFATA genes have 5 or 7 exons and the GhFATB genes have 6 or 7 exons. All GhFAT proteins have the conserved Acyl-ACP_TE domain and PLN02370 super family, the typical characteristics of plant… More >

Gene expression profile analysis reveals the effect of metformin treatment on HepG2 cells

    YI HUANG1,2, CHUNFENG DOU2, XUMING HU2, HENGMI CUI2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.4, pp. 961-967, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.018131

Abstract Metformin is a first-line drug in the fight against type 2 diabetes. In recent years, studies have shown that metformin has some preventive and therapeutic effects on liver cancer, but the effects of metformin on the gene expression of liver cancer cells are not fully known. This study focused on the differences in the gene expression profiles in liver cancer cells treated with or without metformin. A total of 153 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (FC > 2 and q-values < 0.001) were found, including 77 upregulated genes and 76 downregulated genes. These DEGs are involved in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK),… More >

Small RNA sequencing revealed aberrant piRNA expression profiles in deciduas of recurrent spontaneous abortion patients

    JIABAO WU1,2,#, XIAOHUA LIU1,2,#, LU HAN1,2, HUA NIE1,2, YUAN TANG1,2, YUNGE TANG1,3, GE SONG1,5, LIXIN ZHENG1,4, WEIBING QIN1,2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.4, pp. 1013-1023, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.016744

Abstract Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) is a novel class of non-coding RNAs. However, changes in piRNA expression profiles in recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) have not yet been investigated. The aim of this study was to identify differentially expressed piRNAs in deciduas of RSA patients. Decidua tissues were collected by curettage from recruited RSA patients and normal early pregnant (NEP) women with their informed consent. Small RNA sequencing was used to evaluate the differences in piRNA expression profiles between RSA and NEP. The present results demonstrated that the counts of total piRNA reads in RSA samples were increased compared with those in NEP… More >

Genome-Wide GRAS Gene Family Analysis Reveals the Classification, Expression Profiles in Melon (Cucumis melo L.)

    Yanfei Bi1, Bin Wei1, Ying Meng2, Zhongzhao Li2, Zhenghui Tang1, Feng Yin3, Chuntao Qian2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.4, pp. 1161-1175, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.014396

Abstract Melon (Cucumis melo), belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family, is a globally important economic crop. GRAS (GAI, RGA, SCR) genes, which are a type of transcription factor, play a critical role in plant growth and development, including processes such as radial root patterning, light signalling, abiotic/biotic stress, axillary shoot meristem formation, and phytohormone (gibberellin) signal transduction. In this study, the GRAS family in melon was analysed comprehensively with respect to chromosomal location, motif prediction, gene structure, and expression pattern. A total of 37 GRAS genes were first identified in melon, after which a phylogenetic tree was built with the GRAS genes… More >

MicroRNA expression profile and lipid metabolism characteristics in liver of rat undergoing high-fat diet

    Wen JING1,§, Chuanfen LI2,3,§, Yingli LU4, Lianshi FENG4

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.3, pp. 129-138, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.06087

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the microRNA expression profile and the characteristics of lipid metabolism in the livers of rats undergoing a high-fat diet. Fifty male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into a standard chow group (C group, N = 10) and a high-fat diet group (H group, N = 40). After 12 weeks, the rat body weight, body length, fat mass, and serum lipid concentration were measured. The expression profile of microRNAs and the gene and protein expression levels involved in lipid metabolism in rat liver were detected. Body fat and serum lipid concentrations were all significantly higher in… More >

Gene expression profile of Sox1, Sox2, p53, Bax and Nestin in neural stem cells and adult mouse brain tissues

    HAIFENG WANG1,2, KAI WANG1, JUAN GUO1, TIEQIAO WEN2

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.2, pp. 59-64, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.05731

Abstract Histone deacetylation is a key modulator involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and mRNA transcription. However, the effects of histone deacetylation on C17.2 neural stem cells (NSCs) remain unclear. Here, the histone deacetylase inhibitors nicotinamide and trichostatin A (TSA) were used to determine the role of histone deacetylation on gene transcription in NSCs. The results showed that the mRNA expression of p53, Sox1, Sox2, and Bax were significantly higher in E14.5 NSCs than in C17.2 NSCs. Nestin, a marker gene of neuronal differentiation, did not differ significantly between E14.5 NSCs and C17.2 NSCs. The transcription levels of p53 and Nestin were… More >
