    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.3, pp. 3363-3382, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.013314 - 28 December 2020

Abstract Collective improvement in the acceptable or desirable accuracy level of breast cancer image-related pattern recognition using various schemes remains challenging. Despite the combination of multiple schemes to achieve superior ultrasound image pattern recognition by reducing the speckle noise, an enhanced technique is not achieved. The purpose of this study is to introduce a features-based fusion scheme based on enhancement uniform-Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and filtered noise reduction. To surmount the above limitations and achieve the aim of the study, a new descriptor that enhances the LBP features based on the new threshold has been proposed.… More >

    Detian Huang1, Peiting Gu2, Hsuan-Ming Feng3,*, Yanming Lin1, Lixin Zheng1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 313-322, 2020, DOI:10.31209/2019.100000105

Abstract To tackle the problem of illumination sensitive, scale variation, and occlusion in the Kernelized Correlation Filters (KCF) tracker, an improved robust tracking algorithm based on KCF is proposed. Firstly, the color attribute was introduced to represent the target, and the dimension of target features was reduced adaptively to obtain low-dimensional and illumination-insensitive target features with the locally linear embedding approach. Secondly, an effective appearance model updating strategy is designed, and then the appearance model can be adaptively updated according to the Peak-to-Sidelobe Ratio value. Finally, the low-dimensional color features and the HOG features are utilized More >

Abstract With the continuous development of e-commerce, consumers show increasing interest in posting comments on consumption experience and quality of commodities. Meanwhile, people make purchasing decisions relying on other comments much more than ever before. So the reliability of commodity comments has a significant impact on ensuring consumers’ equity and building a fair internet-trade-environment. However, some unscrupulous online-sellers write fake praiseful reviews for themselves and malicious comments for their business counterparts to maximize their profits. Those improper ways of self-profiting have severely ruined the entire online shopping industry. Aiming to detect and prevent these deceptive comments More >

    Yuwei Chen1, 2, Yuling Chen1, *, Yu Yang1, 2, Xinda Hao2, Ning Wang2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.62, No.3, pp. 1259-1271, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.06723

Abstract Local binary pattern (LBP) is one of the most advanced image classification recognition operators and is commonly used in texture detection area. Research indicates that LBP also has a good application prospect in steganalysis. However, the existing LBP-based steganalysis algorithms are only capable to detect the least significant bit (LSB) and the least significant bit matching (LSBM) algorithms. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a steganalysis model called msdeLTP, which is based on multi-scale local ternary patterns (LTP) and derivative filters. The main characteristics of the msdeLTP are as follows: First, to reduce the… More >

Improving Performance Prediction on Education Data with Noise and Class Imbalance

    Akram M. Radwana,b, Zehra Cataltepea,c

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.24, No.4, pp. 777-783, 2018, DOI:10.1080/10798587.2017.1337673

Abstract This paper proposes to apply machine learning techniques to predict students’ performance on two real-world educational data-sets. The first data-set is used to predict the response of students with autism while they learn a specific task, whereas the second one is used to predict students’ failure at a secondary school. The two data-sets suffer from two major problems that can negatively impact the ability of classification models to predict the correct label; class imbalance and class noise. A series of experiments have been carried out to improve the quality of training data, and hence improve… More >

A Computer-Aided Tuning Method for Microwave Filters by Combing T-S Fuzzy Neural Networks and Improved Space Mapping

    Shengbiao Wu1,2,3, Weihua Cao1,3,*, Can Liu1,3, Min Wu1,3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.116, No.3, pp. 433-453, 2018, DOI:10.31614/cmes.2018.03309

Abstract A computer-aided tuning method that combines T-S fuzzy neural network (T-S FNN) and offers improved space mapping (SM) is presented in this study. This method consists of three main aspects. First, the coupling matrix is effectively extracted under the influence of phase shift and cavity loss after the initial tuning. Second, the surrogate model is realized by using a T-S FNN based on subspace clustering. Third, the mapping relationship between the actual and the surrogate models is established by the improved space mapping algorithm, and the optimal position of the tuning screws are found by More >

Automated Synthesis of Wideband Bandpass Filters Based on Slow-wave EBG Structures

    Marco Orellana1, Jordi Selga1, Paris Vélez1, Marc Sans1, Ana Rodríguez2, Vicente Boria2, Ferran Martín1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.52, No.3, pp. 159-174, 2016, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2016.052.157

Abstract This paper is focused on the automated synthesis of wideband bandpass filters operating at microwave frequencies and based on electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structures. The classical counterpart of such filter consists of a combination of transmission line sections and shunt-connected grounded stubs placed at equidistant positions. By replacing the transmission line sections with capacitively-loaded lines (a kind of EBG-based lines) exhibiting the same phase shift at the lower cutoff frequency and the same characteristic (actually Bloch) impedance, filter size is reduced and the spurious pass bands can be efficiently suppressed. In practice, the loading capacitances are… More >

Biofilter efficiency of Eichhornia crassipes in wastewater treatment of fish farming in Amazonia

    Rubim MAL1, PR Isolino Sampaio1, P Parolin2,3

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.84, No.1, pp. 244-251, 2015, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2015.84.244

Abstract Fish is a very important part of the human diet in Amazonia. Near the growing cities, fish populations and individual size have decreased over the past decades. Alternatives to traditional and industrial fishing arise, including fish farming. Strategies to minimize the impact of fish farms on the environment are needed to have a regular and healthy fish supply. This is to avoid a reduction of biodiversity, a depletion of natural resources, and/or the induction of significant changes in the structure and functioning of adjacent ecosystems. Very little research has been performed on management of effluents… More >

    Hai-Kun Wang1,2, Robert Haynes3, Hong-Zhong Huang1, Leiting Dong2,4, Satya N. Atluri2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.105, No.1, pp. 1-24, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2015.105.001

Abstract In this paper, we propose an approach for diagnostics and prognostics of damaged aircraft structures, by combing high-performance fatigue mechanics with filtering theories. Fast & accurate deterministic analyses of fatigue crack propagations are carried out, by using the Finite Element Alternating Method (FEAM) for computing SIFs, and by using the newly developed Moving Least Squares (MLS) law for computing fatigue crack growth rates. Such algorithms for simulating fatigue crack propagations are embedded in the computer program Safe- Flaw, which is called upon as a subroutine within the probabilistic framework of filter theories. Both the extended… More >

Persistence Filters for State Observation and Feedback Control in Shared-Sensing Based Reversible Transducer Systems

    Sukumar Srikant, Maruthi Akella

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.16, No.2, pp. 41-42, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.016.041

Abstract We investigate state observer design for systems endowed with shared-sensing and control through reversible transducers. In this framework, reversible transducers are continually switched between the actuation and sensing modes at some specified schedule. Design and analysis of stable state-observers and feedback controllers for these classes of switched/hybrid systems are significantly complicated by the fact that at any given instant of time, the overall system loses either controllability (during the sensing phase) or observability (during the actuation phase). In this work, we consider linear systems with a single shared-sensing (reversible) transducer and provide a novel observer… More >
