    Energy Engineering, Vol.123, No.4, 2026, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.072246 - 27 March 2026

Abstract Further investigation is warranted into the collaborative function of carbon capture and electrolysis-to-gas conversion technologies within integrated electro-gas energy systems, as well as optimized scheduling that addresses the variability of wind and solar energy, to promote multi-energy complementarity and energy decarbonization while enhancing the capacity to absorb new energy. This work presents an optimized scheduling model for electro-gas integrated energy systems that include hydrogen storage, utilizing information gap decision theory (IGDT). A model is constructed that integrates the synergistic functions of carbon capture and storage (CCS), power-to-gas (P2G), and gas turbine units through electrical coupling.… More >

Partial Suppression of the Proline Dehydrogenase Gene Mitigates the Impact of Drought on the Photosynthetic Apparatus and Productivity in Winter Wheat

    Dmytro A. Kiriziy1, Oksana V. Dubrovna1, Oksana G. Sokolovska-Sergiienko1, Alina S. Holoboroda1, Victor V. Rohach1,2, Oleg O. Stasik1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.95, No.1, 2026, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2026.075371 - 30 January 2026

Abstract Water scarcity severely constrains the genetic potential of wheat yield worldwide. Proline is among the most versatile stress-related metabolites in plants, and targeting genes involved in proline synthesis and degradation represents a promising strategy for developing drought-tolerant wheat genotypes. This study evaluates the performance of the photosynthetic apparatus in transgenic wheat line with RNAi-mediated suppression of proline dehydrogenase (ProDH) and in the original (wild-type) genotype, under both drought and recovery conditions. Drought was induced at the flowering stage by lowering soil moisture to 30% field capacity for 7 days, compared with 70% field capacity in… More >

The Warburg Effect Beyond Cancer: Melatonin as a Metabolic Modulator in Non-Neoplastic Disorders

    JOSé A. BOGA1,2, ANA COTO-MONTES2,3,*, RUSSEL J. REITER4

    BIOCELL, Vol.50, No.1, 2026, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2025.068245 - 23 January 2026

Abstract Aerobic glycolysis, also known as the Warburg effect, and the accumulation of lactate that it causes, are increasingly recognized outside the field of oncology as triggers of chronic non-neoplastic disorders. This review integrates preclinical and clinical evidence to evaluate the ability of melatonin to reverse Warburg-effect-like metabolic reprogramming. Literature on neurodegeneration, age-related sarcopenia, type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, heart failure and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) has been reviewed and synthesised. In all of these conditions, hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) and pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 (PDK4) inhibit the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. This diverts pyruvate away… More >

SDHA Deficiency in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Promotes Tumor Progression through Succinate-Induced M2 Macrophage Polarization

    Xinyang Li1,2,3,#, Luyuan Ma1,2,3,#, Chuan Shen1,2,3, Ruolan Gu1,2,3, Shilong Dong1,2,3, Mingjie Liu1,2,3, Ying Xiao1,2,3, Wenpeng Liu1,2,3, Yuexia Liu1,2,3, Caiyan Zhao1,2,3,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.34, No.2, 2026, DOI:10.32604/or.2025.073179 - 19 January 2026

Abstract Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an aggressive and lethal malignancy. Metabolic reprogramming dynamically remodels the tumor microenvironment (TME) and drives HCC progression. This study investigated the mechanism through which metabolic reprogramming remodels the TME in HCC. Methods: HCC patient transcriptome data were subjected to bioinformatics analysis to identify differentially expressed genes and immune infiltration status. Immunohistochemical analysis was performed to determine the correlation between succinate dehydrogenase complex subunit A (SDHA) expression and M2 macrophage infiltration. SDHA-knockdown or SDHA-overexpressing HCC cells were used for in vitro experiments, including co-culturing, flow cytometry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Western blotting… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.34, No.2, 2026, DOI:10.32604/or.2025.071258 - 19 January 2026

Abstract Objectives: Glioblastoma (GBM) is a prevalent malignant brain tumor prone to drug resistance. We previously found a strong correlation between SH3 domain GRB2-like endophilin B1 (SH3GLB1) and superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2), which converts O2 to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Prior studies show that H2O2 redox signaling is vital for physiological processes and can drive tumor progression. Therefore, we aim to define how H2O2 signaling regulates SH3GLB1 and AKT (protein kinase B) pathways in GBM and to assess whether modulating H2O2 reverses temozolomide (TMZ) resistance. Methods: We used cultured cells and pharmacological inhibitors and activators to confirm the significance of… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract The integration of wind power and natural gas for hydrogen production forms a Green and Blue Hydrogen Integrated Energy System (GBH-IES), which is a promising cogeneration approach characterized by multi-energy complementarity, flexible dispatch, and efficient utilization. This system can meet the demands for electricity, heat, and hydrogen while demonstrating significant performance in energy supply, energy conversion, economy, and environment (4E). To evaluate the GBH-IES system effectively, a comprehensive performance evaluation index system was constructed from the 4E dimensions. The fuzzy DEMATEL method was used to quantify the causal relationships between indicators, establishing a scientific input-output… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract The adaptation of existing natural gas pipelines for hydrogen transportation has attracted increasing attention in recent years. Yet, whether hydrogen and natural gas stratify under static conditions remains a subject of debate, and experimental evidence is still limited. This study presents an experimental investigation of the concentration distribution of hydrogen–natural gas mixtures under static conditions. Hydrogen concentration was measured using a KTL-2000M-H hydrogen analyzer, with a measurement range of 0–30% (by volume), an accuracy of 1% full scale (FS), and a resolution of 0.01%. Experiments were conducted in a 300 cm riser, filled with uniformly… More >
