Abstract Graphene flakes (GF) have been prepared and assessed as a material for improving flow in oil pipelines under the effect of an electric field. In particular, different amounts of GFs have been considered in order to determine the optimal flow conditions. The GFs were prepared from graphite foam, derived from the dehydration of sugar with a particle size of 500–600 μm, which was dispersed in ethanol and exfoliated in a ball mill under a shear force. After 15 h of exfoliation, sonication, and subsequent high-speed centrifugation at 3000 rpm, irregular-shaped GFs of 50–140 nm were produced and characterized using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray… More > Graphic Abstract

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.8, pp. 2171-2180, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.026892

Abstract In general, acid aggregates are not used in combination with asphalt concrete because of their poor compatibility with the asphalt binder, which typically results in a scarce water stability of the concrete. In the present study, the feasibility of a new approach based on the combination of acid granite fine aggregate with alkaline limestone coarse aggregate and Portland cement filler has been assessed. The mineral and chemical compositions of these three materials have first been analyzed and compared. Then, the effect of different amounts of Portland cement (0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the total filler by weight) on… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 3469-3486, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.035001

Abstract In this work, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based technique is suggested for classifying the faults which occur in hybrid power distribution systems. Power, which is generated by the solar and wind energy-based hybrid system, is given to the grid at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC). A boost converter along with perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is utilized in this system to obtain a constant link voltage. In contrast, the link voltage of the wind energy conversion system (WECS) is retained with the assistance of a Proportional Integral (PI) controller. The grid synchronization is tainted with the assistance of… More >

Multi-Stage Improvement of Marine Predators Algorithm and Its Application

    Chuandong Qin, Baole Han*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.3, pp. 3097-3119, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.026643

Abstract The metaheuristic algorithms are widely used in solving the parameters of the optimization problem. The marine predators algorithm (MPA) is a novel population-based intelligent algorithm. Although MPA has shown a talented foraging strategy, it still needs a balance of exploration and exploitation. Therefore, a multi-stage improvement of marine predators algorithm (MSMPA) is proposed in this paper. The algorithm retains the advantage of multi-stage search and introduces a linear flight strategy in the middle stage to enhance the interaction between predators. Predators further away from the historical optimum are required to move, increasing the exploration capability of the algorithm. In the… More > Graphic Abstract

    Jipeng Gu1, Weijie Zhang1, Youbing Zhang1,*, Binjie Wang1, Wei Lou2, Mingkang Ye3, Linhai Wang3, Tao Liu4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.3, pp. 2221-2236, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.025396

Abstract An improved fuzzy time series algorithm based on clustering is designed in this paper. The algorithm is successfully applied to short-term load forecasting in the distribution stations. Firstly, the K-means clustering method is used to cluster the data, and the midpoint of two adjacent clustering centers is taken as the dividing point of domain division. On this basis, the data is fuzzed to form a fuzzy time series. Secondly, a high-order fuzzy relation with multiple antecedents is established according to the main measurement indexes of power load, which is used to predict the short-term trend change of load in the… More >

Improvement of Binocular Reconstruction Algorithm for Measuring 3D Pavement Texture Using a Single Laser Line Scanning Constraint

    Yuanyuan Wang1,*, Rui Wang2, Xiaofeng Ren3, Junan Lei2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.2, pp. 1951-1972, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.026112

Abstract The dense and accurate measurement of 3D texture is helpful in evaluating the pavement function. To form dense mandatory constraints and improve matching accuracy, the traditional binocular reconstruction technology was improved threefold. First, a single moving laser line was introduced to carry out global scanning constraints on the target, which would well overcome the difficulty of installing and recognizing excessive laser lines. Second, four kinds of improved algorithms, namely, disparity replacement, superposition synthesis, subregion segmentation, and subregion segmentation centroid enhancement, were established based on different constraint mechanism. Last, the improved binocular reconstruction test device was developed to realize the dual… More >
