    Building a comprehensive team for the longitudinal care of single ventricle heart defects: Building blocks and initial results

    Abstract Introduction: With increasing survival of children with HLHS and other single ventricle lesions, the complexity of medical care for these patients is substantial. Establishing and adhering to best practice models may improve outcome, but requires careful coordination and monitoring.
    Methods: In 2013 our Heart Center began a process to build a comprehensive Single Ventricle Team designed to target these difficult issues.

    Abstract Objective: Parents of infants with congenital heart disease (CHD) experience increased parenting stress levels, potentially interfering with parenting practices and bear adverse family outcomes. Condition severity has been linked to parenting stress. The current study aimed to explore parenting stress trajectories over infancy in parents of infants with complex CHD, and to compare them by post‐operative cardiac physiology.
    Design: Data from a larger prospective cohort study was analyzed using longitudinal mixed‐effects regression modeling.

    Abstract Objective: Children with single ventricle cardiac disease (SVCD) have poor growth in early life. Tube‐assisted feeding (TF) is used to improve weight gain, but its impact on long‐term growth remains unknown. We sought to compare the longitudinal growth of SVCD patients receiving TF after initial cardiac surgery with those fed entirely by mouth.

    Abstract This paper looked at the leaf architecture characteristics of Vachellia tortilis to determine if either there is or not an effect of the tropic line on plants. Vachellia tortilis leaves were sampled along a national road (N1) in Limpopo province. Sampling points were set 10 km apart away from the Tropic of Capricon in opposite directions. Leaf morphology revealed that leaves of V. tortilis are bipinnately compound with alternate arrangement. The venation pattern of the pinnules was eucamptodromus and brochidodromous with imperfect reticulation. Areoles were imperfect and pentagonal or irregular in shape. More >

    Abstract In this paper, an accurate series solution for the longitudinal vibration analysis of elastically coupled nanorods system is established, in which artificial springs are introduced to simulate such general coupling and boundary conditions. Energy formulation is derived for the description of axial dynamics of multiple coupled nanorods based on Eringen nonlocal elasticity.     Abstract It is well known that blood vessels shorten axially when excised. This is due to the perivascular tethering constraint by side branches and the existence of pre-stretch of blood vessels at the \textit {in situ} state. Furthermore, vessels are radially constrained to various extents by the surrounding tissues at physiological loading.     Abstract In supersonic flow the leading edge vortex of delta wings can encounter intersection by an oblique or a normal shock. The resulting interaction between the two influences the aerodynamic forces, in particular the lift, especially if vortex breakdown occurs. This problem was studied in an idealized form by assuming an isolated slender vortex being intersected by an oblique and a normal shock, respectively.     Abstract The conjugate gradient method (CGM) is applied in an inverse fin design problem in estimating the optimum shapes for the non-Fourier spine and longitudinal fins based on the desired fin efficiency and fin volume at the specified time.
