Abstract The energy produced by the melting stretching disks surface has a wide range of commercial applications, including semi-conductor material preparation, magma solidification, permafrost melting, and frozen land refreezing, among others. In view of this, in the current communication we analyzed magnetohydrodynamic flow of Maxwell nanofluid between two parallel rotating disks. Nanofluids are important due to their astonishing properties in heat conduction flows and in the enhancement of electronic and manufacturing devices. Furthermore, the distinct tiny-sized particles and in the Maxwell water-based fluid for enhancing the heat transfer rate are analyzed. The heat equation is developed in the occurrence of thermal… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.1, pp. 255-268, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.017313

Abstract A novel trapezoidal design for storage of heat energy through melting of phase-change material (PCM) is investigated. Latent heat thermal energy storage system (LHTES) is a promising option to diminish mis-match between energy consumption and supply. For this purpose, Paraffin: Rubitherm-35 (RT35) material is successively melted in aluminum structure which is heated from one side and the other sides are kept adiabatic. Melting of PCM is observed experimentally and melt fronts are photographed for various time lengths. The fluid-solid module in COMSOL Multiphysics 5.4 has been utilized. The transient heat conduction with enthalpy function is hired. Simulations are carried out… More >

Identification of Polymorphic Markers by High-Resolution Melting (HRM) Assay for High-Throughput SNP Genotyping in Maize

    Zhigang Shang1,2, Yongzhe Zhu3, Xinmei Guo1,2, Meiai Zhao1,4,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.6, pp. 1711-1725, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.015048

Abstract The development of next generation sequencing (NGS) and high throughput genotyping are important techniques for the QTL mapping and genetic analysis of different crops. High-resolution melting (HRM) is an emerging technology used for detecting single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in various species. However, its use is still limited in maize. The HRM analysis was integrated with SNPs to identify three types of populations (NIL population, RIL population and natural population), and the useful tags were screened. The patterns of temperature-shifted melting curves were investigated from the HRM analysis, and compared these with the kit. Among all 48 pairs of primers, 10 pairs… More >

Grapevine Phenological Quantitative Trait SSR Genotyping Using High-Throughput HRM-PCR Analysis

    Murad Awad1, Photini V. Mylona2, Alexios N. Polidoros1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.89, No.4, pp. 905-923, 2020, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.011235

Abstract Discrimination among grapevine varieties based on quantitative traits, such as flowering, veraison and ripening dates is crucial for variety selection in the context of climate change and in breeding programs. These traits are under complex genetic control for which 6 linked SSR loci (VVS2, VVIn16, VMC7G3, VrZAG29, VMC5G7, and VVIB23) have been identified. Using these markers in HRM-PCR analysis, we assessed genetic diversity among a large collection of 192 grapevine varieties. The grapevine germplasm used encompasses the majority of Greek vineyard with 181 varieties, 3 prominent foreign varieties and 11 varieties of Palestinian origin. The SSR markers used were highly… More >

Prediction of Melt Pool Dimension and Residual Stress Evolution with Thermodynamically-Consistent Phase Field and Consolidation Models during Re-Melting Process of SLM

    Kang-Hyun Lee1, Gun Jin Yun1,2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.1, pp. 87-112, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.012688

Abstract Re-melting process has been utilized to mitigate the residual stress level in the selective laser melting (SLM) process in recent years. However, the complex consolidation mechanism of powder and the different material behavior after the first laser melting hinder the direct implementation of the re-melting process. In this work, the effects of re-melting on the temperature and residual stress evolution in the SLM process are investigated using a thermo-mechanically coupled finite element model. The degree of consolidation is incorporated in the energy balance equation based on the thermodynamically-consistent phase-field approach. The drastic change of material properties due to the variation… More >

    Jianrui Zhang1,2, Min Chi1, Bo Qian1,*, Zhijun Qiu2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.125, No.1, pp. 77-94, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.010518

Abstract To accurately perform the coupled simulation of temperature field and stress field of complex parts and porous structures under the optimal manufacturing process parameters, three kinds of porous structures with different complexity were designed in this paper. Firstly, ANSYS additive software was used to conduct the stress/deformation simulation of the whole structure under different scanning strategies. Secondly, the optimal scanning strategy for different porous structures was determined, then the experimental preparation was performed, and mechanical properties of compression were tested and studied. The results show that the elastic modulus and yield strength increase with the increase of pole diameter/wall thickness.… More >
